  1. Holy dust storm Batman!!! Fill us in Tabs! How was the haboob last night in PHX? Do REX or any of the other FS environment add-ons allow for haboobs? That would be awsome to fly into one coming down for an ILS to minimums!Hiram Hunt
  2. What happened to the Mt. Rushmore flyby screenshots that Tabs posted? Those were awsome.Hiram Hunt
  3. This shot was taken at KBFI on July 7, 2007. 7/7/07. This was the day before the rollout of the 787. The event was the parade of Boeings. They flew each airplane in order from 707 - 777 from KPAE did a low pass at KBFI and landed, then they all parked in order next to the Museum of Flight for the pre-rollout festivities. You can buy a poster of this picture from the Boeing store. There are 2 NG's in the picture. The first and most obvious is the Alaska Airlines 737-800 in the parade. The second less obvious one is the Austrailian Wedgetail parked on the Boeing Military ramp in the background. The 747-200 in the parade is Rolls Royce's test bed airplane. The reason it was used in the parade was because at the time it had the Trent 1000 engine in the No. 2 position for flight testing. Since this was the launch engine on the 787 it was fitting that it was in the parade. The 707-300 in the picture belongs to Omni Air Tankers. They provide contract mid-air refueling services to the US Navy with two 707's and a DC-10 for peace time missions. One of their 707's crashed on takeoff earlier this year at Pt. Mugu Naval Air Station in California. It could be the one in this picture but I can't make out the N number.Hiram Hunt
  4. So Boeing says ZA100, the first production airplane for ANA will be delivered in August or September. Anyone wanna take bets on whether we'll see the NGX before the 787 is carrying revenue passengers?Hiram Hunt
  5. Ryan your last post was 22 words and 1 smiley face long. A post consisting of just 5 words and 1 period would alleviate any and all speculative and churlish comments from your current and future customers. "Didn't go to wide beta." See, much shorter.Hiram Hunt
  6. What exactly does the dx10 option do? I've heard it saves FPS to leave it off. I've tried with it on and off and I can't see any visual difference and the FPS is about the same.Hiram Hunt
  7. Who is the supervisor in the We Said This Might Not Happen Exactly On The Date We Were Shooting For Department so we can properly address the gripe??? LOL!!!Hiram Hunt

  9. Hey all I ran ventubo and it generated a new .cfg file for me but i don't know where to put it. It's just sitting on my desktop. I've looked and looked through the FSX files but I can't find the .cfg that it's supposed to replace. Thanks for any help.Hiram Hunt
  10. Yeah I lived in PHX for a couple of years and when it hits 110 it's crazy hot. The whole dry heat thing is total bull when it's that hot. The hottest it got in Iraq while I was there was 127. And it was humid because we were only a few hundred yards from the Euphrates. That was INSANE!!! Ryan everyone will be very envious of you when the monsoon starts. We haven't had rain down here in forever. We have a 30% chance next Wednesday. It's been weeks since the last time it rained a little. We're not even getting afternoon pop up CB's. We're all envious of your hard drive too. lolHiram Hunt
  11. Well the dog days of summer have arrived here in Texas. I'm just hoping a certain long anticipated piece of simulation software will appear in the PMDG store soon. It would be so nice to have something new and exciting to do while sitting in the cool air conditioning. All the other past times have grown stale and boring. Knowing this new software will be coming some day makes it hard to get excited about another game of solitaire or one more spin around the virtual pattern in a lesser add-on. PMDG please relieve the tedium of buzzing about in my lovely Katana. It's a wonderful bird but it's sooo hot in the summer. The cool breeze of some pack cooled CFM bleed air would be so nice. Will there be a Christmas in June this year?Hiram Hunt
  12. Hey all I have 2 years of flying and teaching the ERJ-145 at a regional airline and I can tell you the Wilco V 2 is very accurate. The flight model is very representative of the real airplane. I was impressed that they got the nose drop after main gear touchdown right. You have to use the real technique to land well without banging down the nose gear. The performance numbers are very accurate as well. The time to climbs were right on as well as the takeoff and landing distances. They only reason I stopped using it was because my old computer got terrible FPS in the VC. The external model is great as are the McPhat liveries that you can buy.Hiram Hunt
  13. For the challenge Al. :-)Hiram Hunt
  14. If you look around the web a little you'll notice that another developer is doing a really nice 146. I don't know if it's okay with PMDG to post their name here so I'll refrain until they weigh in. I would prefer that EVERY add-on come from PMDG but this one looks very nice. They haven't shown any cockpit shots yet. There have been several screens of the exterior and a video of the animations and several liveries. They also have a very accurate looking 787 coming but it looks way farther away from release. They have shown the 3DS max model of the pedestal with the throttle and radios. It has similar quality level to PMDG but there is no info on what kind of depth there will be to the systems modelling. I would have never known about these two projects if I hadn't been looking around on google for cockpit photos of the 787. The screen of their throttles was in the google image search.Hiram Hunt
  15. Inflight if a turbine engine fails and is still windmilling (assuming it doesn't seize when it fails) it will produce some benefits. The core will windmill at a considerable speed which will be turning the accessory gearbox. So you will get some residual hydraulic power. If the engine failure was due to a flameout from weather or an interuption of the fuel flow, the engine can be relit by simply reintroducing fuel and ignition. The starter isn't required. There are minimum N2 speeds listed in the checklist for an inflight restart. The checklist will usually tell you a minimum speed to fly at various altitudes to achieve the N2 speed for a restart without starter assistance. If the N2 is below the minimum you will use the starter just like a normal start on the ground. It's all layed out in the abnormal checklists. Hiram Hunt
  16. Hey where did the livery preview threads go? Does that mean we're gonna get to see another new livery preview tonight? wink, wink... :-)Hiram Hunt
  17. I've seen pictures of a bunch of airlines that have the SPD INTV and ALT INTV deleted and blocked with little plates. Why would an airline not want to have this option other than cost? It seems like a convenient tool you could use on almost every leg.Hiram Hunt
  18. Ryan are you offended if I on occaision I have referred to you as Tabs in a post? I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but I would like your response to be on record for Goof's benefit :-) LOLHiram Hunt
  19. Wow! That sounds like a really handy button. So if you're in cruise and you set a new higher altitude and press ALT INV and the plane climbs to the new altitude does that now become the altitude set in the VNAV cruise page of the FMC? Does it recalculate the TOD automatically? And last question does the airplane return to VNAV mode when you reach the new altitude( Did it come out of VNAV mode when you initiated the climb?)? Thanks for the quick answer Tabs!Hiram Hunt
  20. To Tabs or anyone else that cares to answer, what do the speed and altitude intervene buttons on the MCP do? All I could find was this "ALT & SPD INTV buttons for FMC hard speed and alt restraints". It also said they are an airline option. So what do they allow the pilot to do and when would they be used?Hiram Hunt
  21. I think they already said they weren't doing a C-40. I wish they would. There aren't many of them but they do fly a lot of routes and missions that you wouldn't do with a normal 737. I think someday we'll probably get a P-8A just based on what PMDG has done with past projects. They did the YAL-1A for the 747-400 and there is only one prototype. Then they did the Hong Kong goverment version of the J-41 and think there are only two or three of those. There will be a couple of hundred P-8A's eventually with foreign sales. There is a freeware P-8A that is pretty neat. I would love to see a really well done PMDG version.Hiram Hunt
  22. Dang Ryan!!! I just checked out the Real Air website. $50 bucks for the turbine Duke!!!! That's extreme. Do you think it's as good as the J41? It looks really cool and fun but $50 is really high for a GA bird. Is it worth it?Hiram Hunt
  23. I stand corrected on the details of the CRJ crash. Jack I have intentionally stalled a Dash 8, CRJ-200, and Beech 1900 on post maintenance test flights. I never had the oppurtunity to stall the EMB-145. I'm sure plenty of pilots have stalled the 737. Maybe not on this forum but I bet it happens more than you think.Hiram Hunt
  24. Jack your missing my point. In my opinion the jet would be easier if you've never flown a plane. You are an experienced pilot. As am I. I have made crazy short landings in the Dash 8 and the 1900. And crazy short takeoffs when empty. But you have to be a better pilot to get the most out of a prop than you do a jet.Hiram Hunt
  25. Hey PMDG can you please do a livery with the airplane in the raw form that it rolls of the production line in? It will be fun to fly from RNT to BFI and then switch to a customer livery to test fly with. Please do the red white and blue prototype liveries to fly with the cool flight test package that you've made.Hiram Hunt
