  1. I wish ORBX would focus on P3D and continuing to make improvements on current products and finishing stuff like coverage for Asia, which has been promised for years now. Instead, they're wasting developer resources on stupid things in X-plane that aren't really necessary, because I can accomplish a lot of that on my own with Orthos. However, x-plane users have nothing bad to say about regions like Great Britain and the Netherlands, but I think it's happening at the expense of P3D users. However, in all reality, I think both platforms are going to get sandbagged once MSFS comes out since that appears to be giving users what they want out of the box- good weather, environment, cities, etc..., so this whole conversation may be moot at this point.
  2. I have most of their sceneries in P3D, and I'm happy to hear that they're getting into x-plane. Flightbeam is one of the best developers around in my opinion, but MrX does a great job too. My only complaint is that they haven't bothered to update SFO or PHX with new terminals yet, so both are dated. The same goes for the freeware stuff in x-plane, so no matter what you get, it's a rendition of the airports that is not up-to-date.
  3. The last thing X-plane needs is REX coming over and providing products that haven't even been fully-functional in P3D yet. X-plane has it's own problems as it is, there's no room for another developer who is going to produce something that is half-broken and string users along for months/years that kinks are being worked out, blah blah blah.
  4. I switched to XP from P3D a couple of months ago and haven't bought a thing, except active sky and xvision. So much freeware and enjoyment. While it's far from perfect, I think it's worth getting now while we all wait with baited breath for MSFS2020. Who knows, maybe Xplane will speed up its pace of development now that there's competition in the air- so win-win for all of us.
  5. I've also been a long-time P3D user who switched to x-plane a couple of months ago. Both are incomplete sims in their own right, but x-plane looks better out of the box- and with Orthos, it can look fantastic. I wouldn't waste money on ORBX products for Xplane. Too performance-heavy, too expensive. I haven't bought a scenery for x-plane yet since most default and user-created addons are sufficient due to the beauty of the orthos in my opinion. Hopefully there will be good renditions of seasons by the end of the year too. I do miss thunderstorms which don't render well in x-plane, but other than that, there are so many addons and plugins that improve skies/clouds, and there are also tweaks that are easier to manage than P3D also for the look and feel of the sim. Takes some gettin' used to, but I'm glad I ditched P3D and never looked back.
  6. I kind of feel the same way, but with respect to X-plane 11. I ditched P3D after the Rex EF debacle because I'm tired of the lousy-looking P3D environment, even with tweaks. X-plane is light years better by default, so after 3 years and about 4k in addons, I made the switch and couldn't be happier. However, now I'm drooling over MSFS and X-plane has lost a lot of its luster lol. Hopefully this impending release will force both developers to step up and bring their sims to the next level. Then we can have some real choices...
  7. I wouldn't bother with EF. Skyforce is great. EF is buggy and limited, so unless you like the stock automatic look, you're better off waiting for PTA to release their next-gen tool that will pretty much allow shader tweaks on-the-fly without all of the headaches associated with this botched product.
  8. Let's start with weather, good environment and realistic night lighting first-- perhaps better AI traffic. If MSFS does what LM and LR have ignored for years, they'll have my business in a heartbeat. Weeds? How bout thunderstorms.
  9. Yeah, it's just one of those things. Unless you have all of the eye candy dialed back...Try the mouse option, it's much smoother
  10. As much as I appreciate that, we've been hearing that same thing since the release of Skyforce and now the bug fixes associated with EF. That's a long time to wait in the sim-verse, and it's one of the main reasons that I jumped ship to X-plane from P3D. I got tired of waiting for you guys to make products that live up to their marketing hype.
  11. Go into the key assignments for the hat switch- look for custom I think, then you can set it for fast panning.
  12. I just wish one company would build a sim with decent weather. That's all I ask. Include realistic weather out of the box. It's something that just boggles my mind- that LM and LR didn't see the importance of doing this in any of their versions. REX sucks. It never fully worked after Skyforce, doesn't fully work now, and X-enviro has a looooong way to go before it worth the hefty price tag they want for a half-finished product. I don't get it. I really hope Microsoft looks at this, and other important, white elephants in the room that have been ignored by devs for years. I'll ditch both platforms in a second if that is the case.
  13. It doesn't have much to do with that, trust me, I've had the same issue with various settings on my high-end system. Use your mouse instead of the pan and it will be much smoother. Hold down the right button and move the mouse- same as pan but takes a little getting used to. You can also adjust the pan rate and that may help, but I can only move fast pan left or right, up or down, not at other angles so I just use the mouse instead.
  14. It didn't do much for me in x-plane, and there's scarce support- a lot of people are complaining on the forums over there, so buyer beware is my advice. There are a number of free plugins that do pretty much the same thing, and P3D really doesn't need it from what I can see, unless I'm missing something.
  15. I just figured it out- I had the text box open in the AVITAB when looking up some charts. Once I moved the cursor out of there things went back to normal. Hope this helps someone in the future...
  16. I've been having on and off problems with my keyboard not working, and I can't figure out why. Flights start out okay, but soon after takeoff, the view keys, gear keys, flap keys and most other ones just stop working. I've tried to backup and restore my prefs in the ZIBO, but the problem keeps happening. Any ideas as to what's causing this? The keyboard works fine outside of X-plane, I'm typing on it as we speak while the sim is running. Perplexed, John
  17. Hiya Everyone, Does anyone know of a good scenery manager (freeware or payware), that I can use to enable or disable my orthos and other sceneries as needed? I'm still kind of new to x-plane, and I don't want to spend money on junk... Thanks, John
  18. Thanks for the head's up- for some reason I thought that only the street lights would show up instead of the city textures if I was using orthos- I have overlays and extended night lights, but they looked terrible over orthos until I found the Rendering Options plugin- wow things look awesome now.
  19. Hi Everyone, Sorry if this was asked before, but I'm still new to X-Plane, moving from almost 3 years in P3D. If I want to deactivate orthos in flight, for example if I'm flying from day to night and want to see the full city lights as I land, can I just disable them in the .ini and refresh the scenery in X-plane? I'm wondering if it's possible to avoid a full restart. Thanks, John
  20. They haven't even provided a lot of support for their existing products either, namely their weather engine. They also haven't updated clouds and skies (which was a promise made long ago), and I doubt that a lot of promises will be kept in the future. I'm tired of being told to be patient. They offer a product, they should not release it if it's broken, period.
  21. Yeah, Skyforce was a disappointment, but at least SOME of the clouds looked decent. I forgave them for that because of EF, but I feel very misled because that product was buggy and partially functional too. In fact, the impression I got from support with respect to problems in MANUAL mode was that they knew about some of the problems prior to release and released it anyway. Wonderful. Same nonsense as before- remember the weather engine problem that was billed to be fixed when EF released and SF updated? Now, they're saying that the weather engine fix will come later as part of Weather Force. Sounds like they're kicking the can down the road again- REX is great at marketing, but terrible at living up to their promises. This goes beyond just the usual problems associated with a release. They lost my trust and my business. I'll use EF if they fix it- but I doubt that I will be supporting REX in the future. Maybe PTA will come out with some kind of upgrade that will allow us to make changes in the sim, on the fly too- Refreshing shaders is great now, but making changes is still tedious...
  22. Hi folks, I'm still feeling my way around X-plane 11 and loving every minute of it. However, one of the biggest annoyances I have is when I'm at cruise at night and the airports around me stick out like a sore thumb. They're just annoyingly and unrealistically bright. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks,
  23. I do that. But the process is still tedious as opposed to what REX offers- once they get the bugs worked out of EF. Just curious if someone else was working on something similar, because who knows if and when EF will ever fully work.
  24. I already do that- what would be nice is if we were able to see the changes unfold in real-time. I think if PTA or tomato would evolve into something like that, then it would be a lighter, more-reliable addon as opposed to EF. Who knows what's possible:-)
