  1. Be nice? On the internet? Did I miss a memo somewhere? Quite possibly, I've been on a not so voluntary break for the last two weeks, so it's possible that there was some new UN sponsored international convention that everyone has signed up to without my knowledge As for the nice and diplomatic approach, I'm all for that, we never know what the person on the other side is dealing with, could be exam stress, career or family pressure, or something worse. I never read any of the manuals for the T7. Never. I learnt the basics of it by watching Kyle's awesome videos and reading answers to people's questions, that was the limit of my concentration levels at that stage. And I can't think of a single person who would have judged me harshly or refused me assistance at that stage if they knew what I am talking about here. But the key point is, nobody would have known unless I told them, which for good reason, I did not. We should not always assume the worst about people's failure to follow up on even simple requirements unless we know for certain that they have no good reason for not complying, and we cannot always guess or assume their reasons. There is no substitute for politeness. As for the rule requiring signed posts, perhaps if there was a clear explanation for the requirement of the real name signature, there would be less resistance to it, after all, I doubt seriously that anyone in here has a problem with anyone not providing support to users of pirated copies.
  2. As they are fond of saying here in the UK, a gentleman and a scholar.
  3. Great shots, David. The little Skylane is my go to aircraft for taking vacations in places I would move to if money was of no concern.
  4. Thanks a bunch, Werner, I really appreciate that.
  5. Hey Werner, any chance you would give ZS-SAX a go? It's the first 747-400 I ever flew on, and I was lucky enough to have visited the cockpit on that flight to London.
  6. Naughty corner for you guys, Vin. But seriously, from what I have seen on the forums so far, it doesn't seem like you guys missed much at all. I've not yet managed to do any flights with her, but from the pictures and videos of others, this just seems on a whole different level of incredible.
  7. I wish I was enjoying it, I get really jealous of everyone who is having so much fun with what just looks like an incredible simulation. I haven't been home long enough at any given time to spend time with her. For now, I am just admiring her through everyone else's pictures and videos.
  8. Don't know what PMDG's numbers state, but that video looks a lot like something I experienced on return to Johannesburg from Sydney. Those wings can flap around a lot, which is very reassuring when you see cabin crew rushing to their seats.
  9. Hey Kyle, thanks for chiming in. I didn't actually have the "DisablePreload=1" line in the Cfg file, so that still leaves me where I was when I started. Should this problem show up when that line is absent? I attempted the repair install when I was asked multiple times to enter the activation code, but seeing as I got that message in picture 2, that route was blocked. But seeing as the activation issue went away, I checked FlexNet, that wasn't the problem, I'm now just stuck with the problem in picture 1. I'll go and have a look at later when I am home and just double check the introduction manual.
  10. Hi Paul, thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, in the Introductory section it reads "DisablePreload=1", p23 I think, I don't have the document in front of me. It stated that this line is added to the FSX SE Cfg file by default, however, when I checked last night, that line was not present in the Cfg file. So, in the absence of that line under the Main section of the FSX SE Cfg file, "DisablePreload=0" should be inserted, which should then resolve the issue?
  11. Hey guys, I know you are busy, so I will keep this brief. I'm sure you'll figure it out in 30 seconds, but it's 5AM in the morning here, and I am out of ideas. After selecting the aircraft, this is what shows up in the rotating screen. When proceeding to load the flight, nothing happens, just a black screen, even the progress bar during loading is not visible. FSX SE, no AV program other than MSE. Installed as administrator. Something interesting that happened after installation is that ASN no longer receives the flight plan created in FSX, departure and destination airports had to be entered manually. After exiting and restarting, I loaded up the 777 without any issues, I selected ASN and turned the weather radar on, and tuned 122.00, which functioned normally, barring of course the manual entry requirements for departure and destination. As the second image indicates, I attempted a repair install. I am curious what the limitation is that is referenced. Appreciate the assistance, and any questions I will answer once I have had a few hours sleep.
  12. HA! Change of plans for tonight, bring on the coffee!
  13. I am not so much concerned about the actual release date, I'm more interested in when most of you will be asleep. In GMT, if you'd be so kind.
  14. Unless you are being a professional tease, but we have no proof of that, all we have, to borrow a phrase from Spock, is a theory that just so happens to fit the facts.
  15. I will also be buying it for FSX SE. However, it will be one of my last, if not the last purchase I make for FSX. That also covers scenery.
  16. One of the things that I always do is to treat it exactly as a simulator. Most pilots will never face the failures or disasters for which they train in simulators, yet the purpose of the simulator training is to learn how to react in the unlikely event of a water landing. So as Brian suggested above, program your plane for specific failures, get your manual out, study that procedure and learn how to handle the plane under pressure. That way, even if you do not actually encounter any kind of emergency, you have trained for it. On top of that, by training for different kinds of failures, you are also learning how to react to a failure. By pushing the plane beyond the comfort of normal flight, you also learn exactly what they are capable of. Ever tried landing the 777 on one engine? Ever taxied it on just one engine? And those are just two the nicer things that can go wrong, try surprising yourself with a fire somewhere over the Arctic, that's fun. There is a world of learning opportunities present in these aircraft if you are willing to step outside of normal operations, and engage the different personalities of these planes. It's a simulator, it will let you go as far as your imagination desires, and as far as you are willing to challenge yourself (think weather too).
  17. That one and the return route will be frequent flights for me having done them for real. The YSSY to FAOR leg was particularly memorable for me as I ended up having the only open seat in cattle class next to me. The advantage of booking in the last row window side, only two seats next to each other. 14 and a half hours of never having been so happy to hear the announcement, cabin crew, boarding complete. Of course, 14 and a half hours later, I wasn't exactly sure what day of the week it was any more, that's an awful lot of sunshine later.
  18. Did the pushback at SBRJ without releasing the parking brake on the PMDG 737. Anyone want to guess what the gear lights showed after retraction? Flew 180 miles in the PMDG 747 with the gear hanging out. Not so good for gaining airspeed or altitude, or confidence for that matter. Badly messed up a landing on the A2A Cessna 182 in Botswana. Must have been really annoyed with myself afterwards because I skipped a visit to the maintenance hanger and duly forgot about the destruction I wrought on the poor 182. Took off a few days later in an attempt to do the flight properly, thought I had forgotten to extend the flaps ... but in reality, it was just one of many things destroyed by my previous 'landing', a few others being most of the vital components for having a working engine. Anyways, long story short, it's a really strange sensation when one's plane suddenly banks left, and the earth doesn't stop getting closer no matter what one tries.
  19. I very much agree with you that PMDG has created a thing of beauty with their 777. Underneath the simplicity of the workload for the pilot lies a complexity of engineering that is awe inspiring. Although I have only been required to use it twice (once for tail strike and once for main gear failure after take off), that non normal checklist that just opens at the right procedures page is just incredible. I appreciate that this is Boeing's inventiveness, but the depth of simulation that PMDG has recreated here cannot be overestimated.
  20. The point of the extensive list of repaints is not for everyone to download every one of them, but to provide at least some to as many people as possible. It's no individual person's list of preferences, it's a list of preferences for everyone's different tastes, as not everyone is going to fly the same route as everyone else, the variety makes sense. As such, your preference is not really that different from most other people's preferences.
