  1. Thank you so much. I’ve heard of it before. Will be looking out for it in MSFS.
  2. Apologies for posting a video, however I have no idea what airport is at the start of this video, but I wants it! Does anyone know? Also reminds me that I’m going to have such a zen time just cruising around in simple flight mode, with the sounds down, and my music turned full up.
  3. Futurelearn is the UK’s main provider of MOOCs and this one has just been released. I thought some here might find it interesting; https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/flight-mechanics Free to join. No obligations. 4 week program. General description of an airplane Atmosphere physics and Newton’s laws applied to the airplane Lift, stall and ceiling Drag and propulsion forces Longitudinal stability Take off and landing basics
  4. Interesting information. My PC upgrade planning just got a lot simpler. I think I'll wait for the RTX 3000 series cards to drop and may forego a new CPU (had assumed a higher core count would give better results, but it's looking more like it will be GPU-limited).
  5. Apologies for showing my ignorance here, but one of the cockpits has labelling in French. Is that the way that plane is manufactured/delivered everywhere in the world (I'm assuming it's a French made plane) or does this suggest cockpits could be language regionalised? i.e., I don't know how the language of cockpit labelling is handled in real world aircraft. Naively I had assumed it would all be in English as that's the standard language for ATC (or am I wrong with that as well?) So much to learn! What would be really nice is if Asobo/MS would provide some nice hi-res desktop wallpapers of the cockpits, etc. as they become finalised. At the moment we have to do video screen capture or rely on the relatively few images available on the Insider page. I'm going to be a happy camper as the two planes I'll spend most time in will be the X-Cub and the TBM. Looks like they've given extra love to the TBM because they're "just down the road" from Asobo.
  6. With such a complicated piece of software, plus a number of dependencies that may be out of their control (e.g., the Bing and/or Azure people may be having some sort of issue) and the ever present spectre of bureaucracy (this is Microsoft and involves collaborator licenses after all), there could be a number of potential issues that have led to the delay. Many of those might be trivial yet show-stoppers. I'm sure many of us need only reflect on similar situations that have happened in our own personal and professional lives and that we've probably been responsible for!
  7. Can I make a book recommendation for this thread? In all honesty, this is a fabulous book by the way.
  8. I had a memorable flight across China with Air China. Half the passengers didn't use seat belts, stayed on their phones the whole trip and the guy across from me had a large tray of strawberries on his lap for the whole flight. You just about stuck to the headrest as well.
  9. Dial in the cleavage for a hyper real experience.
  10. In these times and with the precedents only too regularly apparent on these forums, it would be wise to include some smileys for a health warning if any jokes are attempted. I completely agree, if there are arcade-like dials on the screen, it's a no-buy for me 😎🤣😁😜
  11. I think that's the auxiliary maths co-processor to help with the aerodynamics calculations.
  12. During the interviews at the September preview they made a comment that the game doesn't use raytracing but instead uses an approach that simulates it. I can't remember the details at the moment. I think this mention of raytracing is either a bad translation or a slip of the tongue to mean the "raytracing-like" approach the game is using. But if they feel there is a 10 year development lifetime for the game, I suspect full raytracing implementation is on the cards once it becomes more consumer gamer mainstream.
  13. I have hope and confidence for procedural seasons delivering. It looks like the underlying platform for MSFS is a major departure from past flightsims and leverages procedural rendering to a much greater degree. In addition, it's been designed from the ground up using DX11 (not evolved from past version) and can now take advantage of modern graphics cards and their hardware capabilities. So relying on the precedents of previous flightsims and addons is probably not the best approach to predicting the future. At most levels we're in uncharted territory with this new sim. If colour tinting of the ground textures gives believable results (granted it's not a perfect solution), then I imagine Azure can easily interpret the images and tint them as appropriate (after all it can identify 1.5 trillion trees, all buildings and even the types of roofs). Graphics cards can already give the snow glittering effects when the light hits it just right. The 3D trees are procedurally generated, so it should be a simple matter of providing a range of instructions so giving different models (theoretically you could have trees made out of candy if you wanted). If the engine is open through the SDK down to that procedural level, then third party developers will have a field day in providing adjustment filters and models. Asobo have stated that their ethos is to provide a "platform" and that implies it will be greatly extensible.
  14. Jetlag add-on comes pre-installed: Sore red and watering eyes? Tunnel vision? Severe sleep deprivation? Aching muscles? Confusion about what is the real world and what is not? Bladder dysregulation? Severe ennui the moment you step away from the computer? These features all come pre-installed with your copy of MSFS because, admit it, you'll play it every moment you can.
  15. In an online military sim like Arma, all clients sync with each other on the trajectory of bullets, bombs, etc. When it works without desync happening, all these projectiles moving about are synchronised just fine. The server receives the information from each client and then broadcasts it to everyone. This can work even if the server is just the PC of one of the players. Obviously, good Internet connectivity for all players is important. So I think it’s technically possible to have the clouds in the same positions. But it will all depend on numbers. For Arma, hundreds of objects are being synchronised every second. But if all the clouds out to 600 km draw distance have to be synchronised, that might be a problem. Furthermore, cloud position is one thing, but if the nuances of cloud shape have to be replicated (remember they are dynamically forming and dissolving), I suspect this will be too much. Perhaps at best they may be able to synchronise cloud position and approximate dimensions up to a radius from the players that the connection can manage.
  16. I'll third the Stearman (or any biplane for that matter). Also a Van's RV10. And since Asobo are French, how can they not make a Colomban Cri-cri?
  17. Zeppelins, yes! Balloons would be epic if coupled with good sounds (wind, passing birds, distant traffic, burner roar). Or award scores for closest landing to a designated spot. Addons could be different designs, passing birds, night time burner effects, etc.; I remember waking up one morning in Oxford and a huge red fire extinguisher was floating past my house. Imagine online balloon festivals to show off your funky designs. As nickhod points out, the Bristol Ballon Glow where they synchronise the balloons to music at night attracts thousands of visitors. I know this will be anathema to simmers, but in all seriousness, if done right this could become a viral sensation among casual gamers. Like inclusion with Game Pass, this would be a low stakes but excellent way to get new people into the sim.
  18. Agreed, but I don’t think I’d want to dirty my nice shiny turboprop on it.
  19. I joined Avsim in 2005 and rolled my eyes at the eye rolling chest beating that went on. Left the forums and flightsims a few years later. Now I’m back for MSFS and I see nothing has changed. The same old tribal p’ing matches.
  20. I believe so where I read from one of the people who attended The September preview that they where using a 25 Mbs connection. By all reports it worked fine with that, which is great because my connection speed is 150 Mbs.
  21. Orbx correctly has no trees around the hotel and looks like a better match for the runway textures. Have a look at this landing video; But still the MSFS version looks beautiful and I would never notice or worry about the differences.
  22. I think the solution to the wing flex observation is, “alpha”.
