  1. From the BAV-747-FCOM p36- FMS Preparation: "Enter Assumed Temperature into the SEL field, check EPR matches TOPCAT/UTOPIA figure and reduce/increase the assumed temperature entered until the SEL field until FMS EPR equals TOPCAT/UTOPIA figure. Check TO or D-TO with assumed temperature is displayed on the Upper EICAS. Select CLB or CLB-1 as appropriate"
  2. You have already posted this in the General Forum (albeit off topic) so I doubt you're going to have any luck here either
  3. Remember that TOPCAT isn't used in the RW. The only situation that I could think of where D-TO's and assumed temps wouldn't be used would be for aircraft at MTOW, an aircraft that's reasonably heavy taking off on a short runway or for taking off on a runway that is surrounded by very high terrain.
  4. I am very confused you just said that BA don't use de-rates or assumed temps meaning that all take off's are at MAX power. Again based on what? I'll bet everything I have that BA use de-rates and assumed temps on the 744's. De-rates and assumed temps are for prolonging engine life, saving fuel and overall efficiency. Why wouldn't the largest operator of the 747 want to do this?
  5. Based on what? Are you trying to say that all BAW 777 take off's are at maximum take off power?
  6. Your'e very welcome, happy to help. If anybody else is having trouble with the link (seems to be working my end) the link is contained in this forum post http://forum.avsim.net/topic/336155-magnetic-variation-updates-for-fs9-and-fsx/ It's a must have in my opinion
  7. It sounds like if you are making all these "Stupid Mistakes" then you shouldn't be worrying about trying to take short cuts. If you are "accidently" turning the standby power off which by the way is quite hard to to by mistake. And really an hour of cockpit setup- you have to be kidding me. That "endless alarm" was telling you that a battery drain condition is occurring and could quite easilly be fixed by establishing a source of power. Read the PMDG-737-FCOMv1 S.P 6.1-6.3 for step by step instructions on how to establish electrical power properly and safely, also read PMDG-737-FCOMv1 N.P 21.1-32 for instructions on how to set up the cockpit correctly.
  8. So you're telling me that a combination of a grossly out of date magdec.bgl file and a 3 degree offset localiser wouldn't be a recipe for disaster in this instance?? But then I suppose if you go out of your way to (somehow!) use the stock standard FSX GPS and not bother to learn the aircraft's own navigational systems then you wont have to worry about about runway headings, offset ILS's or magnetic variations. WINNER!
  9. Sounds like you need to update your Magnetic declination file (magdec.bgl) as since parts of FSX are nearly 15 years old, magnetic bearings have changed by a few degrees since then. You can download the 2010 magdec.bgl file from here http://www.aero.sors.fr/navaids.html. Whilst your there download the latest NAVAID update as well. These updates coupled with the latest NAVDATA should align your runways with the approaches correctly.
  10. Well I stand corrected. Thankyou for pointing this out, it has given me an opportunity to learn something new. However I still believe that in some circumstances that it may be beneficial to leave the autothrottle engaged whilst turning finals in a tight visual or VNAV instrument approach as it reduces workload , once visual, by all means disconnect the autothrottle.
  11. I have searched the FCTM and am yet to find this suggestion PMDG-NGX-FCTM 5.77-5.78 Approach and Missed Approach (pp 254-255) No suggestion to the use of autothrottle
  12. Well perhaps you might like to suggest some solutions of your own instead of attacking mine.
  13. Well excuse me for not picking that out. Yes OAT affects VNAV behaviour, however the OAT and many other conditions and characteristics are already taken into account when calculating step climbs, so this shouldn't be an issue unless there is some really bizzare OAT. Another thing to consider is whether the PMDG Load Manager and the aircraft itself are using the same measurement system (LBS OR KGS) If you are boarding fuel and payload in LBS are your aircraft or FSX is using KG'S this could potentially cause problems
  14. This happened to me when I purchased the PAX version of the 744 and then later purchased the Freighter version of the 744. My solution was to un-install both variants, do a registry repair with the Flight1 tool and then re-install both variants (PAX then Freighter) If you have no luck with this you should check that you have the correct, genuine product key for each variant
  15. Are you using the PMDG Load Manager and have you correctly selected the correct 747-800 from the config menu? Outside Air Temperature But why post that in this thread? It has nothing to do with it
  16. When you decide to disconnect the Autopilot there is no need also switch off the flight directors, all you need to do is fly to keep the two pink lines centred, use the MCP to set speed, altitude and flight mode as you normally would if the A/P was engaged, then you shouldn't have to worry about when to DECEL because when your chosen flight mode commands this it will be reflected on the FD on the PFD. This will also reflect the actions of the A/T provided you are following the FD Not always true, in fact with certain approaches, especially short, tight visuals it might actually be beneficial to leave the A/T as not having to worry about moving the throttle and controlling speed frees up space in your mind to concentrate on turning final, lining up, establishing on the PAPI etc...
  17. You should never use the Default FSX Fuel Loading tool as it messes with the PMDG aircraft load and balance. If you are loading from a saved panel state, or loading a panel state on selecting the aircraft then the amount of fuel you have will depend on how much fuel you had at the time of saving the panel state. This could explain why you are getting the same amount of fuel all the time, regardless of how much fuel you board through the Load Manager. If this is the case then Board Fuel after loading the panel state from the PMDG drop down menu.
  18. The Important part of that sentence is "I removed FSX" which means that the NGX installer cannot locate the required FSX files because well...they don't exist because you removed them. You need to re-install FSX and get it properly running and then try the NGX installation again Good Luck!
  19. No worries! I'm glad that you could sort it out.
  20. I believe this is what they were referring to: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/388287-oh-yes-we-did-16oct12/
  21. A wealth of information contained in a short four minute video. Enjoy!
  22. Jeff, I am unsure of where the video and the engine for that matter are from. I'll PM the guy and let you know. I guess that Qantas just never had the need for the T7 in its fleet. It's probably a combination of capacity, economy and cost. The current international fleet comprised of 767's, 747's, A330's and A380's seems to suit them just fine. But you never know what will happen after the retirement of the old 767's and 747's, will they opt for more Airbus aircraft? I'm sure that if the 787 project is successful with Jetstar that Qantas will probably order more of them. Sadly, I doubt that we will ever see a 777 flying the Qantas Kangaroo. That's if Boeing can ever manage to build enough of the things!
  23. Well as much as i'd like to have been, I found this video from one of my YouTube subscriptions, AusAviation149 a great channel thats really worth a look.
  24. These problems seem to crop up quite a bit throughout these forums: "My aircraft will not follow the LNAV path" "My aircraft suddenly turns and I cant stop it" and "My aircraft suddenly starts 'S' turning and no matter what I try I cant stop it" Well 99.9% of the time this is because of an improperly configured weather set up coupled with FSX's poor depiction of wind turbulance. I used to be a victim of this extremely annoying problem and thought it would be nice to put some of you guys out of your misery too. How you tackle the problem depends on the following: Are you using FSX default weather engine? or Are you using a weather program like AS2012, ASX or ASE If you are using FSX default weather your solution is to use the wind and pressure smoothing features in FSUIPC (if you have a purchased copy) or turning off wind effects all together within the engine itself. Confusingly, If you are using a program like Activesky you need to turn off all FSUIPC wind and pressure smoothing options (as they conflict with each other causing wind anomalies) and let AS2012 take care of it, maybe even dampening down the wind turbulance setting within the program if needed. Hope this helps and Good Luck!
