  1. But without them, your opinions are no more valid than anyone else's. I'm not defending DTG but I think that it's unfair to blame them, or their business/employment practices, for the failure of FSW without verifiable evidence. Just saying that something is true doesn't make it so without evidence.
  2. So, basically you're just speculating? No one outside of DTG actually knows what happened and IMHO it's wrong to try to give the impression that any of us have a genuine handle on what really caused FSW to be cancelled (unless you actually work for DTG, of course).
  3. First, try running the NVIDIA Control Panel (or NVIDIA Profile Inspector) as administrator and then set the options you want. If that doesn't work, fully uninstall the graphics drivers, reboot your system and re-install the drivers using the "clean install" advanced option in the installer. I would avoid installing GeForce Experience as that often causes more problems than it solves.
  4. BET is only perfect if the aircraft model it uses is also perfect (not just close) down to things like surface textures, rivets and so on. It's also incredibly difficult to troubleshoot problems with models based on blade element theory - if you think you've got the model correct and the aircraft doesn't fly as expected, what do you do? There's a reason why full sized commercial flight sims usually use table-based flight models as they're much easier to tweak to make them more accurately match the real aircraft.
  5. Double post, for some reason! Avsim seems very slow at the moment.
  6. I assume that your upgrade involved a clean install of Windows? If so, that alone would probably give you a noticeable increase in performance whichever version you use. I would say that it depends on screen resolution. At 1920x1080, even a 1060 is unlikely to be bottlenecked by a Haswell CPU running at 4.7GHz. You might be able to use much higher levels of antialiasing and maybe get better picture quality but there's unlikely to be any noticeable performance (FPS) improvement caused solely by using the same 1070 card with a newer processor at full HD.
  7. The link was to the 8600k review just because it had all three CPUs (4790k, 6700k and 8700k) in the IPC results. Note that the results in the linked table are all at the same clock speed to show comparative single thread measurements. I agree that the difference between the 4790k and 8700k is about 15% but j0nz was talking about the 6700k and the 8700k which is a much smaller difference for the same clock speed.
  8. Perhaps, yes, because of the extra cores and higher turbo frequency. But for basic processing grunt, there's very little (<3%) between them, clock for clock: https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/intel_core_i5_8600k_processor_review,26.html
  9. In those links he says "we regrettably don’t see a clear direction that will allow us to keep to the development time we’d want, alongside the player numbers we need". That's hardly blaming the customers - it's simply stating a fact. But where is the actual evidence that DTG blames the consumers or the community for the failure of FSW? I'm in no way trying to defend DTG but, whilst no one outside of the company actually knows what happened, many here seem happy to make assumptions or misquote to support their arguments. If you have the facts to support your claims, please give them! DTG may not have a spotless track record with other products but that doesn't justify attacking them, without evidence, for what happened to FSW.
  10. You've clearly interpreted most of what he said about FSW in a different way to me. The first time that he grudgingly admitted that he was actually impressed with FSW was in January this year. Almost everything else, and in particular his early comments, were critical. I've read plenty of comments from others blaming the community for the demise of FSW but don't recall reading anything specifically from DTG, who seem to have been unusually quiet about the whole thing. Do you have any links to DTG's comments? There were a number of high-profile figures in the flight sim world who were very critical of FSW almost from the day it was released. Whilst they may not have actually caused it to fail, through those who read their comments they almost certainly contributed to it.
  11. It sounds as though you have something else (not working through FSUIPC) also assigned to the throttle. Delete any keyboard or other controller settings which apply to the throttle and if you have the yoke AND the Go Flight throttle quadrant connected at the same time, make sure that only one of them is assigned to the throttle.
  12. If you use the standard vsync, it "locks" (synchronises) your framerates to the monitor refresh rate. However, using a 60Hz monitor as an example, if your framerates drop below 60, vsync then "locks" them to 30. If your framerates fall below 30, vsync continues to drop them using fractions of the monitor's refresh rate (30, 20, 15 and so on).
  13. There's far more to strength and rigidity than just the diameter of the shaft. The material (and any treatment it may have had), diameter and wall thickness all contribute to the strength. As Ray said, it needs it's greatest strength in compression and torsion, not bending.
  14. Sadly, I've just succumbed on the racing wheel front! As there didn't seem to be an imminent release of the throttle my controller budget has now been blown. I'll continue to watch the Honeycomb products with interest but not with the intention of buying one for the foreseeable future.
  15. When trueSKY was introduced to FSW they said that it was a basic implementation and that a lot of optimisation needed to be done. The fast-moving cloud structures had already been fixed before the cancellation of FSW. Is that a problem you think would be specific to P3D? I ask because it certainly didn't seem to cause any performance issues in FSW - I used antialiasing with trueSKY and didn't see a significant hit.
  16. And you know this (with absolute certainty) how? As others have already pointed out, the DLC for FSW wasn't very expensive relative to the other sims. In fact, comparatively speaking, most of it was good value. There's so much rumour and opinion here stated as fact that it's no surprise that FSW failed. Now that FSW has effectively been killed off (some would claim by a number of very vocal, high profile, critics), it'll be interesting to see if any of the "losing consortium" for the original franchise try to release their own product.
  17. According to the specs on the Samsung website (https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/monitors/gaming/49--chg90-qled-gaming-monitor-lc49hg90dmnxza/): 2 HDMI, 1 DP, 1 Mini DP
  18. It's only 12.5% more pixels than a QHD monitor. As long as he's conservative with his settings, his i7-4790k/GTX1060 combo 1060 should manage that. There are plenty of people running FSX successfully at 4k - the problem with higher resolutions tends to be higher CPU/GPU usage rather than higher VAS usage (2D panels are, apparently, the only exception to this).
  19. But, unlike liquid metal, it's quick and easy to apply and there's no chance of it spilling over the edge of the CPU. Whilst it may not give the level of cooling provided by liquid metal, I'd certainly trade 1°C for the ease of application and the ability to reuse it. It'll certainly make all of the "best way to apply thermal paste" videos and articles redundant!

    Farewell FSW

This forum is full of opinions! Who's to say which of them are correct? If we needed absolute proof before posting a comment/opinion the whole site would be much quieter. The original comment that I responded to: "Froogle has proven over years that what he has to say carries more weight than most that say nothing" is just someone's opinion and also lacks definitive proof.

    Farewell FSW

It's from here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php/110345-Frooglesim-News?p=1137647&viewfull=1#post1137647 As I said above, I've no idea how much truth there is in the original comment.

But just because you have a big following and your comments carry more weight, it doesn't necessarily mean that you're correct. I don't know how much truth there is in the comment but someone on another site posted that Pete Wright (Froogle) was involved with the "consortium of well regarded developers" who lost the franchise. It would be interesting to know if that's true. If so, it might explain some of his animosity against DTG.
