FSX ATC does not follow PFPX flight plan
My vote is for VOXATC. I have used it for MANY years. I have seen it go through various iterations and improvements. The upgrades are always free. I bought a voice pack with it and have now 4 diffeent voices, always in use, plus Mic Anna. I find NO faults with the current vfersion, which has improved yet again on an already near flawless program. Needless to say, I wouldn't fly with out it. I haven't flown yet in the steam version, and my fsx works fine from the disks. Good luck with your decision. Captain Ken

Viewing charts while in full screen.
I simply use a second monitor. You just open, drag and drop = amd maybe re-size. It is absolutely wonderful.

OK - Someone explain scenery to me
GREAT post BeechPapa. Thanks so much. I have an "itch" to buy "an airport". I fly in and out of NY more than any others. I was strongly thinking of the Drzewiecki NY airport package. My hesitation is that with it giving you 3 majors (LGA, JFK, and EWR) versus one (say for example a JFK package) = does it improve them amoe, but not as much as a "one airport" package. Are the gates numbered for example? Thanks in advance for replies, and I'll go web checking in the meantime. CaptainKen

IFly 737 or PMDG 737
I have them both - MUCH prefer the IFly. They are both good though, as it has the 2D cockpit available. Even better than these is the new Aerosoft Airbus (package may stilll be on sale - I got mine from Just Flight) - A-318,319,320 and 321 all bundled together, including FS Crew and RAAS for those planes only. Barring NONE, these are the finest I have ever flown in fsx. By Far.

FSX Steam Released! (80% off sale?)
I'm downloading it right now. Looks to be over 4 hours to get it done, but for a fiver, it is worth the wait. CaptainKen

How to make Active Sky and VOXATC get on the same page?
OK - I hope this does not appear as a stupid question. I got Active Sky Next on Monday of this week. It works WELL! No problems whatsoever. And I love it. I also use VOXATC,; have for many years, and love it too. By far the best ATC program I have ever seen or used. Now the problem: VoxATC uses fsx weather - whatever it be - to assign runways. But I have the ACN set to live, which is how I have flown all my flights for years. But since fsx weather (live) doesn't work anymore, I was forces to get an outside weather program. So if the real weather is 10 mph from say 350 degrees, but fsx says it is winds at 4 mph from the south, then it assigns the runway to the south. Which conflicts with ASN. So my dilemma. Is there any way to make them work in concert with each other? Or do any of you have suggestions on this issue? Thanks for your time.

I need help
CaptainKen replied to CaptainKen's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumOK All is well at least for now. I just flew from Syracuse (KSYR) to White Plains NY (KHPN), NO issues. Appreciate the help/

I need help
So I got ASX today. Read the documentation and set a flight in progress. As indicated in this forum (not this thread), 2/3 of the way through the flight, the sim abruptly stopped and crashed. Very frustrating. I've rad and read just about all there is to read on the subject, but don't know where to start. I don't consider myself computer savvy by any means, However, I know I am running fsx and ASX as an administrator. I have my antiV off right now hoping I can get a hint of where to start. I JUST downloaded the appcrash view application, so it isn't available for the crash I suffered 3 hours ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, it looks like I' just out the money I spent. Thanks, Ken

Can anyone PLEASE help me?
Final Post - Got new disks today from Megascenery folks. Installed them. They are working like a gem. No crashes. So, I believe it is safe to say it was corrupted files from bad disks. My Heartfelt thanks to all who in any way tried to help me fix this problem. I think this should be categorized as "answered" on the forum. Ken

Can anyone PLEASE help me?
In an effort to keep you updated, I'll write more: 1. I moved the scenery from the external to the internal. Crashed as expected, where expected. Nothing going but the default Cessna. THEN I decided to try a flight with the megascenery I got the first time. I flew from Pit (pa) to LAG (NY) I used Megascenery for Pa, none for NJ (I don't have it) and then Mega in NY. All the scenes switched, no issues at all. No stuttering, no crash, etc. I also flew this "Loaded" - That is, I had VoxAtc running (a resource hog), and FS discover running. The frames were great all throughout the flight. I had no issues at all. It has to be the new scenery - it has to be. However, I still appreciate ALL of the input from the forum. And thanks for the info on the processor Jim. If I do go that route, I'll but the I7, FOR SURE. Cbalow - I wish I knew what to tell you - you are in the same boat as me, I guess. We just got bad disks (admitted by the mfr.). They are sending me new ones for Nebraska and Indiana. When I spoke to them by phone, they were the only ones I knew that were bad. I got an email - they are on their way. But I know for sure Colorado is bad too. I'm not sure about Iowa and Ohio, because I haven't used that are since all the trouble began. But if I can still fly as is, then be so be it. I'll just have to avoid the new scenery in those states. But it just hurts inside, if you know what I mean. I'll continue to post any new "progress" in determining either the depth of the problem, or any hint toward resolving these issues., Ken

WOW - SO much information you present. Thank you Jim. OK - this all makes sense - maybe its time to upgrade - IF I went that route, should I bite the bullet and get a whole new system? Or might it be worth my while to just upgrade the processor (if that's even possible)? As you should be able to tell, I value your input highly - so please give me your opinion. I am not broke - but of course, laying out a couple of grand for a new system isn't what anyone "wants" to do - but your opinion (and anyone else reading this forum) is so welcomed. IF I bought the bullet, I am leaning strongly toward a system I saw advertised in PC Pilot magazine - it is a machine built solely for fsx (so they say). It is called the Fusion Hornet and is made by someone called Chillblast. But I'd welcome your opinion here too. I get a little muddled with some of the terminology - but if I understood your last post, you think maybey I should move the Nebraska to the COMPUTER versus the external wd. I'll give it a try and see what happens - le you know shortly.

Can anyone PLEASE help me?
As always Jim, thanks for your input. I ASSUME that because I have high FPS (20 - 50) that the computer has all the resources it needs. Is this correct? I have windows 7, 64 bit. I have 2 HTI Radeon HD 5670 graphics cards. The computer is quad core. The processor is an Intel® Core Extreme CPU Q 6850 @ 3.00 GHz. I have 8.00 GB Ram. It says that I have 2303 MB total graphics memory. The primary Hard disk has 345 GB Free. Megascenery is installed on an external hard drive (WD, 2 TB). The following specs apply to the graphics: 2303MB total available memory; 1024 MB Dedicated graphics memory; 0MB dedicated system memory. Primary monitor resolution is 1680 x 1050. Secondary monitor resolution is 1289 x 1024. The direct x version is direct X 10. However, that "box" inside fsx is not checked - that preview direct x or whatever it is. Ok that's the specs. The above is all literally "Greek" to me - I know nothing of what it means. Regarding Bios, and overclocking. I know nothing about them, I never messed with them, etc. I tired to copy and paste, here, a copy of my fsx cfg file, but it won't let me. It looks ok to me (haha), but again I know little about it. I don't know if I should re-try loading Nebraska, or, delete and reinstall fsx. I should mention that today, flying in Colorado (another recent "potentially corrupt" megascenery purchase. Also, through your analysis, please remember - I have 10 megascenery areas ( the original purchase of mine) that were absolutely fine. I do consider you more expert than myself, but I can't help thinking if I had a memory/resources problem that none of the megascenery would work. Anyhow, thanks for your input, and I look forward to reading more from you on this. Ken

Can anyone PLEASE help me?
Well bad news for me - I installed Nebraska from the downloads, and once again I am crashing 0n Nebraska. If I don't use the megascenery, the fsx doesn't crash. But if I use it, then I crash. Now what? I downloaded several sectors at the same time, and installed several of them simultaneously as well. I'm so darn frustrated. I tried and tried again, having five "crashes" in a period of about 15 minutes. All "error codes looked the same. I'll post one here incase anyone has any ideas. Can anyone PLEASE help me?
More news regarding this issue: I spoke to PC Aviator on the phone today. I explained the problem. They were aware that a "third" machine, just recently put into service to handle high customer demand, is putting out "bad" disks. They indicated to me that they would send me new disks immediately. I expected as much, because ALL of my dealings with this company have been positive, and I have dealt with them for years. I also explained that the part that upset me was that I had written three different email requests for support to the Megascenery tech support email, and that I had gotten no replies. This was explained to me that this was unacceptable, and that the President of the company would be informed, this afternoon. I was provided his direct email address, and fired off an email to him to explain the situation. Meanwhile, I am in the middle of downloading Nebraska, as I'm too anxious to wait for disks! So I'm taking valuable forum space, but I just wanted everyone to know that although I got corrupted disks (so I guess did many people), they were willing to make it right. PC Aviator is still the good company I always thought they were. Ken

The problem is RESOLVED. Indian is fixed. I uninstalled the Indiana Megascenery that I had installed from the disks, and downloaded (7 hrs or so) from the link provided with my purchase. After installing them, I started up FSX, from the "problem area", and boom! I knew as soon as I got up into the air, the problem was resolved. The previous areas that were "default fsx" versus megascenery were gone. I had megascenery everywhere. So after flying and flying and trying to crash the fsx, I am FIXED. As I have said all along, I am so grateful to all of you who tried to help me. But Jim had the answer - a corrupted scenery file (or perhaps many of them, because I had patches and patches (maybe a dozen or so) where the megascenry was missing. Whenever a plane got anywhere near any of these areas (didn't matter which one), I was dead I the water. My thanks to my new friends at the fsx forums. You guys are truly wonderful human beings. Ken

Can anyone PLEASE help me?
Just an update for all following this thread. I originally installed all of my megascenery via disks. I'm going to try using the download link for Indiana - just to see if maybe that "possible corrupted file" is made right. This as I'm sure you know a long, painstaken process. But I'm about half-way through the download. As a side point, I did install the scenery config editor that you spoke about in one of your earlier posts. It will be a great tool. I tried to mess with the "actions" you described, and I did them all - nothing really seemed to change, except the last action. Based on what was written there, I was afraid to try it. If this downloading thing doesn't fix the problem, then I'm faced with either not using the "bad" megascenery, OR I can once again UNinstall and REinstall fsx. I really hate to attempt that because of all the add-ons. That's a decision I will have to make later -. And one final point - Mine and cbalow's problem seems identical. I had that problem also with Nebraska and Colorado too. All the new scenery purchased seems to be the problem children. I had NO problem with any of the first ten states I installed. Weird, huh? Ken

Can anyone PLEASE help me?
Lots LOTS of great input here. I'm sorry that you, cbalow, are experiencing the same problem - but at the same time I am so relieved. And although I have not specifically mentioned it, I too have the same problem with the NE/CO border. OR NE/SD also. And to make it clear, the same crash occurs with the default Cessna from FSX, with NO other programs running except MSE. It crashes - same place every time. SO I'm going to try the suggestions in the last couple of posts - and I will report back so everyone can know. What is GOOD to come out of this is to see all the wonderful people whop are willing to try and help a complete stranger - THAT says magnitudes about the people who fly fsx, and who use this forum. OK I'm off tor try these suggestions. Heartfelt thanks to all of you. Ken

Can anyone PLEASE help me?
Thanks Jim - Only Indiana is running, plus default fsx of course. I'm going to count the bgl's now, and will report back - my computer says 12.6 GBs, BUT ONLY 307 FILES AND 1 FOLDER. ORIGINALLY, when I installed Indiana, I mistakenly put some Iowa into it. However, I moved the Iowa files. I also completely uninstalled Indiana, and completely reinstalled it. I'll count and get back.

OK Jim - I'll post what I think you are looking for - the "complete file" of a fsx crash. I've been on the phone for three hours with the Tech Service I use (pay for) for help with the computer. This guy was very patient - we tried about a dozen flights, all in the problem Indiana area. He thinks it is a "compatibility" issue between FSX and the mega scenery - but quite frankly, I'm not sure. Again, we tried it without the Indiana megascenery and again no crash. However, as soon as the megascenery is used, within 5 minutes fsx crashes. He tried to run this program in many different compatibility modes - but none would fly the plane in Indiana with Megascenery enabled. Again I thank you for your continued support and that of the other gents writing in too. But I think I'm screwed. I just can't imagine why mine crashes and other people's do not. Until someone gets a solution, I guess I just cannot use the megascenery in the problem areas. The only regret is the wasted money. I still have not gotten a reply back from the Megascenery people. If you get any more ideas, I'll try anything - just suggest it. Until then, here is the file you requested to view. Can anyone PLEASE help me?
Again THANKS so much for your continued effort and help. We MAY be getting somewhere. I downloaded the AppCrash application you sent e. And it provides some wonderful information. I looked at about 2 dozen fsx crashes (all very recently), and in EVERY case some of the information is identical. In EVERY case the fault module (as you can see below) is : util.dll What ever that thing is, I think is causing the problem. As you requested here is the information from the most recent fsx crash: Process File: fsx.exe Event Name: Stopped working 7/6/2013 1:03:29 PM User Name: Ken Exception Code: 0xc0000005 Exception Offset: 0x00022d5a Fault Module Name: util.dll Fault Module Version: 10.0.61472.0 Process Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\fsx.exe Report File Size: 33,630 Report Path: C:\Users\Ken\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\AppCrash_fsx.exe_1828fa5aaebd1e4352f178e7f26f9de528aaa_05dc7b7f\Report.wer Jim, in all 20 that I looked at, Exception Code, Exception Offset, Fault Module Name and Fault Module Version are identical. I don't know what it means, but it being the same makes me hopeful. And again, I appreciate your help much more than you can possibly know. Ken

Great information. Thank you! That is what I expected to happen. I take it that you have never had a similar problem as mine then? SO what could be the problem? I have plenty of horsepower and fps all through the flights - with or without Megascenery. I took two more flights, over the same exact areas (1 in Nebraska; 1 in Indiana) and again I got the fsx crashes. When I don't use the Mega scenery (don't load it for the flight), I have no problem. Again, I appreciate your response - truly! Ken One more thing Jim - When I downloade the new driver, one "part of it appears to have failed to install. Here is the message from the Event Tracker - does it make any sense to you? I tried to install it twice, and got the same results. However, Device Manager shows an updated driver. Got any thoughts? "Product: AMD Accelerated Video Transcoding -- Error 1904.Module C:\Program Files\Common Files\ATI Technologies\Multimedia\atimpenc64.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147024703. I updated the video and sound drivers with the help of a "pay" service. Still no solution. But I know more about the problem - just not the solution. In the purchased scenery, there are some small "gaps" of missing megascenery. When the plane nears any of these it crashes. If I refly, without the megascenery, there is no crash and the flight cannot be completed. I wrote to the megascenery people, and hopefully will get a reply. In the mean time, if anyone has any ideas, pleas express them. I hate the thought of having to turn off the scenery - especially at its price. Thanks to all who responded and tried to help. Ken
