  1. Ok, ASN it is...well, I'll download their demo first, just to see what all the fuss is about. Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'll try the real weather option too gboz, thanks for the suggestion!
  2. Thanks Greg, I'll definitely give it a shot tomorrow- trying to get it to work has nearly driven me round the bend! I'll let you know how I get on. OK, that's good to know. If I'm getting the textures already, I might wait for ASN to go on sale ( if if ever does), but I think I'm good for now. Thanks for the feedback.
  3. Hi, I currently own REX 4 HD. When I bought, I did not realise it didn't have it's own weather engine (my own fault for not researching properly!). I'm still confused as to whether it's actually running in FSX- I have created a theme and installed it into FSX, but under weather conditions I have no idea what to pick. Does FSX use the REX textures if I, say, choose 'building storms' or it's own default textures? Anyway, I realise I need a proper weather engine, and will probably opt for ASN as everyone seems to rave about it. I was just wondering if anyone thinks it would be worthwhile waiting on REX Weather Direct? While I'm asking questions , seeing as I'm having trouble getting Plan-G to work on my LAN using Simconnect, would ppl recommend FS Commander or just do without? I have a moving map app on my Nexus 10 and have yet to get to the stage where I feel I need a complex flight planner (guess I just answered my own question!). Would anyone disagree? Thanks in advance, Paul
  4. Apologies for resurrecting a months old thread, but I was extremely curious by what you meant by a 'panel state save'? Are you referring to using a third party utility like 'panel restore' (which has never worked for me). I was under the impression that this was impossible to do in full screen mode ( I know 'panel restore' only works in windowed mode. Maybe you're referring to windowed mode, but I would love to find out that my assumptions were incorrect! I have the fully registered version of FSUIPC BTW. Thank you.
  5. Interesting question. I myself am considering a 32" Samsung with a 1440 vertical resolution (can't afford one of these Dell Ultra-wide bad boys!). My opinion would be that there are very few VC panels that would benefit from a 2160 vertical resolution except maybe aircraft from the likes of PMDG. I'm only speaking from my own experience with a 1080p monitor, but I have found that except for some of my A2A and newer Milviz aircraft, the VC panels just start to look slightly pixelated when zooming in close. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the developers (until maybe very recently) were designing VC panels with that type of graphical fidelity in mind. Again, I could be completely mistaken, and I don't own any PMDG products, or have I ever simmed on a monitor with a 2160 vertical resolution, but I would think 1440 pixels would more than suffice.
  6. Just ordered mine today! Should be ready in November, thankfully I am more than happy to wait for such a highly rated pair of pedals. I've never actually owned pedals, I use the Z axis on my Thrustmaster t.1600m along with a Saitek Pro yoke and quadrant (wish I could afford to upgrade those!) which is unwieldy and unrealistic to say the least. After doing ALOT of research I luckily stumbled across this thread (I had never heard of MFG) and was almost immediately convinced. Granted, I'll have nothing to compare them too, but I reckon rather than forking out a couple of hundred on Saitek's or CH's various options before deciding to upgrade, I might as well opt for the high quality option right off the bat. Considering the prices of PFC level pedals they're actually astounding value on paper. So thanks Ebs, Blaze and others for singing their praises, I can't wait for my early Christmas present now!
  7. Make sure you set the resolutions in Windows as well as Nvdia Control Panel. Probably best to delete your FSX.cfg and let it rebuild itself after a reboot as well. It could be a connectors problem as well. If you get a chance try a HDMI or display port with the problem monitor.
  8. I doubt you'd experience any significant performance loss at that resolution. Just wondering- have you tried FSX on the 50" tv or does the resolution not scale well at that screen size?
  9. Thanks for the feedback Michael. I can't deny I'm disappointed by 'weather' affecting performance so drastically. I only use REX 4 for my weather, no engine, but with all the highest resolution textures, and I love flying aa Beechcraft Baron lor a Cessna Skyyhawk through a building storm. I reckon I should reconsider and just go for a regular 30". It would still be a dramatic upgrade from a 24 ", and would probably work better with TrackIR as well. Gotta be realistic, and the price difference between the two different models and their specs is considerable. Thanks for the continuing feedback in here of the different experiences ppl have had with the 34" curved model. They been overwhelming positive, but I don't think I will be complaining with a 30" monitor as my new VC! And it's always nice to have another upgrade to aim for!
  10. [quote name='ValleyDeer' timestamp='1439524955' post='3282901'Well I only have a 4770K and the cheapest Asus Z-97 board and I'm comfortably getting 4.5Ghz by just increasing the clock, making sure my memory is at it's certified 2133Mhz and leaving most all the other settings to auto. Can you screen grab (I think you can do this with UEFI BIOS), if not just take a couple of photos of your BIOS, especially on the AI tweaking screen. Also I hope you're doing the over clocking in the BIOS! Also I hope you have enough cooling in your system (how many system fans do you have and have they been configured properly for different temps), also what model is your case?. PM me if you want me to talk you through it when you're at your Pc. And if you could give me the brand and model name of your ram and it's certified speed if you this. We'll get to the bottom of this man! On, and a download a small freeware program called CPU-Z, that will give you most of the info you need about your system. Hope I haven't overloaded you with requests, just get back to me when you get a chance, I enjoy a project like this!
  11. Hey Pierre, Thanks so much for the extremely prompt reply, and for going to trouble of taking the photos. They definitively fully grasp how you were implementing the hinge. And I love it- simple, elegant and most importantly it functions as you intended! Like all the best ideas☺ And, more over, with a hobby as relatively expensive as he one, its wonderful to hear that it only cost you a couple of dollars. I'm currently working on a solution that will give such sort of minor tactile feedback as you move a throttle from one quadrant the next. This would be very helpful where you had confugured distinct parameter variables for each quadrant, or say if you weren't configuring a throttle as an axis, but using each quadrant to perform a certain action with only 4 separate distinct values. Anyway, I'm sure you're riveted by a project that will probably involve thin strips of a durable rubber or similar màterial, or very soft plastic strips! We'll see how it goes. So, I've take up enough of your time this evening and. thank you once again, although I hope you don't mind if I steal your idea ! No bigger compliment could I pay you! Or at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Chat again sometime. Best wishes, Paul
  12. Don't worry- the first thing I did. Thanks for the support though, appreciate it.
  13. I know you posted this a few months ago but I only just came across it today. I love your solution for delineating the forward and reverse thrust using a hinge. Would it be at all possible to post a picture so I can get an idea of how to implement a similar solution with a couple of my Saitek throttles? I often find it frustrating not being able to get able proper physical feedback that could tell you what positions your various throttles were in. I know it's a bit much to ask for after this amount of time, but I'm always looking for innovative and preferably cheap ways to add the functionality you need to any piece of hardware, but especially Flight Sim hardware of course. Well, here's hoping...... Paul
  14. I found a FSUIPC server app still on my machine from a previous add-on, and within a minute of opening it I had successfully got Plan-G to connect from my laptop. It worked flawlessly and surprisingly qjuickly- even building the DB remotely only took a couple of mins. So, no need for a Simconnect.XML file or hoirsmof messing with network and firewall settings anymore ! Thanks for your replies Brett and Mark!
  15. Wish I could figure out why you and so many others can this to work, but despite close to a full day trying various options, it just kept disconnecting. I tried it on my FSX machine and loved it which is why I am so bummed I could get it to play nice. I'm going to try it with a physical connection with and an ethernet cable when I get hold of them, otherwise I may have to add WideFs to my Fsuipc
  16. Congrats on your purchase Flic. I was delighted to hear that you haven't experienced any FPS impact coming from a 24" monitor, as this is exactly what I intend to do. Yet another stunning screenshot Jim, the extra resolution just does so much justice to the Phenom and Carenado planes will certainly all benefit from the extra resolution. Thankfully I've learned my lesson from too many impulsive buys to wait until we see some sort of price drop. And there's constantly new models appearing on the market- The Philips 34" BDM3490UC curved display looks like a beauty- It's a IPS panel with 3440 x 1440 resolution and a 5ms G2G response time and 60Hz refresh rate also sporting an extremely impressive 1000:1 contrast ratio. No official price on it yet, but I know it's gonna be wait out of my league. Good that these monitors are selling though. Have fun with your new monitor Flic- just out of interest, do either you or Jim play other games or watch movies on it?
  17. Hey. Since you have an Asus MB I would definitely give OC'ING another try, otherwise you're really wasting the potential of that card. Asus make it really easy to over clock conservatively of you prefer to start carefully and sfter a little research and tweaking, you could be looking at an extra 5-10 fps easily from it's stock speed!I'm always happy to advise if you decide to try it out!
  18. Wow, just wow Jim, that monitor must have transferred your swimming experience not nothing else! The resolution just makes the cockpit look completely real, with such intricate detai, and the outside view is just spectacular as well. That's me convinced! My next major purchase is definitively going to be one of these 34" curved monitors. I know I will be absolutely blown away by one. And thanks to your feedback regarding how your rig is handling it, it doesn't look like I'll have to worry about any system upgrades for it either. Thanks so much for those photos Jim, they've really given me a post- Christmas present to look forward to! In the meantime I can actually just focus on learning to fly properly!
  19. No, that's great thanks. I was looking into ASN, does that require your secondary PC to be relatively powerful? Mines a three years old laptop with a dual core i5 at about 2.3Ghz , 4GB Ram and a discrete nvidia GC which ran Skyrim pretty well at the time. I assume the FSX PC has quite a bit of processing and rendering to do with ASN in game (correct me if im wromg)/so I'm hoping my laptop will do the job. Sorry for all the questions, that's the last one I promise. If you don't know, that's fine, it wouldn't kill me to do some research myself! Cheers man!
  20. Hey Brett, how has your performance been with Plan-G? I heard it can be a bit laggy and possibly a bit more than I need at this stage on flight sim career (only about a month or two of building, tinkering, tweaking and occasionally flying). I currently use FlightMap for my Nexus 10 which has a servicably GPS and moving map. Is Plan-G and say Flight Commander for when you are more experienced with IFR and VFR navigation and you want to create more complex plans which use authentic flight plans and can integrate with the likes of Active Sky? I still don't know half the acronyms involved in navigation, really need to sit down and do some study! Thanks man!
  21. I have an Asus Z-97A and I managed to update my bios by downloading the .cap file alomg with some updater utility and place them on a USB stick. I then booted into the UEFI bios and there was a fairly straight forward bios update option. Check your BIOS to see if it has one and then I can advise you further if you want.Do not know what the heck is going on with all those yellow flagged devices in your device manager though! If you haven't got it sorted yet, could you send me a higher resolution screenshot of it, as I can't really make out the text.
  22. It sounds like a no-brainer, but even a 49" 4K mightn't be ideal for reading text and smaller dials or instrument readings. Also not all graphics cards play well with tv screens, although most current ones support all the current inputs. For a game like FSX, I'm sure it's amazing, especially when you have two 24" monitors beneath it. Unfortunately, logistically, that setup is impossible for me (stupid shelf with 'precious' photos that cannot be moved ), so maybe I'm just trying to convince myself that it's not ideal to lessen my jealousy!Lucky you!
  23. As far as I can tell input director is just a software KVM switch which will allow you to view different PC's output on a variety of monitors usimfg the one keyboard and mouse. However it won't allow you to run one instance of FSX across multiple PC's and monitors. Nor will WideFS. WideView would do the trick if you had multiple PC's networked together, and as far as I know you could maintain the VC view. You'll need to send them an email to confirm that though. So, if you have the money you could configure a second PC with a high CPU and a 980 TI maybe, get the software, network your PC's and have your config. Why? I don't know, but good luck to you.
  24. If you already have a decent HDMI streaming device, then I would just focus on over clocking that CPU. You could get up to 4.5-4.6Ghz without your system breaking a sweat (as long as you have some idea of what you're doing!). However, if you do go for a GC upgrade then the 970 still has the most bang for your buck!
