  1. @Ricardo41 thanks for this post, I just grabbed the flight dynamics mod and cant wait to try it out.
  2. Hi friends, MSFS n00b here and really enjoying it. While I would love the 3D terrain synthetic vision in the real world I do not like it in MSFS 😶 Is it possible to disable it in all planes that use it via some kind of tweak wizardry (a .cfg file someplace?) I have the Steam version, Premium Deluxe. Thanks 😀
  3. Similar happened to me, I installed an SSD for Windows only and pointed Steam at the existing MSFS on the old spinner drive. Steam found it and verified pretty fast. I thought I was good to go. I did this with my other Steam games and all worked fine. When I fired up the sim it began downloading 80GB of data. So I think I forgot to back up another file before I got the SSD. Where does this 80GB data sit?
  4. See what virtuali said, bold lettering is what I did for emphasis 🙂
  5. I went on the Discord and someone there said to get rid of Modman and just place the folders manually in Community. It worked 😃 The ASI is now showing. So Modman was not doing its thing. Too bad because it did look promising, a simple UI. They suggested I get another mod manager called Add On Linker, I will check that out. I wish the game could be modded with Vortex Mod Manager (from Nexus). They could give a MSFS mode. Maybe one day!
  6. No need to spend any money on the old sims. If the space is available he can keep both. XP11 for example has some excellent jets like the Zibo and when flying those the external visuals dont matter THAT much when most of the time is spent tootling along at FL 380
  7. Hello friends, ASI not showing on downloaded 3rd party mod I downloaded this awesome plane called the Savage Grravel: https://flightsim.to/file/5061/savage-grravel-monster-truck-in-the-skies However the airspeed indicator is not showing 😕 Upper pic from the download site, lower pic my screenshot. I use the Modman manager, other addon planes (including the same authors Savage Carbon) are working fine. I verified also that it had placed it properly in the Community folder. Would anyone be able to help?
  8. @Fielder yes, even though my new system is still some time away I've begun thinking about this very question. While this PC is old its still powerful enough for what its used for and in fact were it not for MSFS I'd just keep it since it runs all my other games without any issues. The new one will cost quite a bit and perhaps I can sell the components from this one to raise some cash, but if I do the math and find out its not that much I'll just give it to someone. Will be sad when that time comes, this machine has served me well for coming on 14 years without a single problem.
  9. @canuk22 yes I could never given up the B737-800 on XP11, for airliner simming I find it extremely satisfying. The Zibo is a true gift even though I can only fly it over remote areas (weak comouter = low FPS) so I mostly fly the stock B738 with some mods. I dont mind the visuals either. I did enjoy the GA bush flying in XP11 too (theres a fantastic C172 bush mod) but then thats when I found myself wishing for better low level visuals. MSFS came along and now its become so great. I treat one as a VFR bush flying experience and when I wanna put on the Captains hat I fire up XP11.
  10. I use both and will always keep it this way. I use XPlane 11 as my airliner sim (mostly B737-800) and MSFS as my GA low level bush-flying sim. I have invested a lot of time into XP11 and really love it, specially its installation design - everything contained in one folder. Managing modding it is also a breeze. I have just got MSFS and I love its visuals which are perfect for low and slow back country GA flying. I do not like it for jet flight, for that I prefer XP11. As far as I'm concerned these two titles are excellent in their own way and they are not rivals on my system, they compliment each other nicely 😃 Do whatever makes you happy, ignore the mud slinging that camps from either side hurl at each other - you will see this sometimes lol. This is a niche genre and all virtual aviators should get along no matter the platform. Happy flying!
  11. This was unusual for me. I usually wait 12 to 17 months after a title releases to get it. But all the pics and videos I saw of the amazing scenery made me want to get it sooner. Another part of the delay was the worry about my old system. It struggled to run FSX + Orbx (single figure FPS in some regions) but I am frankly shocked at how well it can run MSFS (within reason). I really like it so far - but only for light GA flying. Im not feeling it for flying long range in fast jets. Its a very visual title and being at FL410 in a jet..well...you could be in any flight sim. Where this title shines is low and slow bush flying. Last night I was flying low level in the Carbon Cub over Idaho and almost got emotional seeing the terrain graphics 😨 what MS and Asobo have done is incredible 😃. For those of us who dream to fly IRL but cannot this is a wonderful thing. I use MSFS for bush flying and X-Plane 11 for airliner (B737-800) flights. They compliment each other well this way! Wow thats really impressive. You can do that with volumetric clouds also? As soon as I enable the vol clouds my FPS goes into the red ☹️ I found a compromise by having a thin layer of low-rez vol clouds - it looks like FSX clouds but its better than constant clear skies. I must try that vsync trick and FPS cap. The dev mode readout is really impressive I find it so useful. You got any plans to upgrade? Im putting together a plan for a new system, I want to run this game with some settings full bore. Will be a 11th gen Intel or Ryzen 5800X system with 32GB RAM and RTX 3060 12GB. Will have to be a prebuilt as its near impossible to get a card atm with the silicon shortage.
  12. I got my IFR in a Warrior (many many moons ago lol). Rock solid platform and I much preferred the throttle and mixture controls which was a more "airliner style" quadrant setup compared to the Cessna 150 & 172 "syringes" 😶
  13. You might be interested in this video shot by a coast guard helicopter of a SR22 near Hawaii. A fuel system issue caused the engine to fail and the pilot popped the chute. Amazing footage.
  14. Oh I see, thanks for the info. I was actually just watching a YT vid last night to learn how to use the TBMs Garmin system, its very impressive whats out there for GA pilots these days!
  15. That is an excellent idea. Low level VFR is exactly what Im after. I just checked out that plane and ended up on the real world manufacturers site, what an amazing thing! Definitely added to wishlist, exactly what I need to bumble around - like you said it has a light system load. Have you seen the vid of it doing a turn over a spot 😲 I did this already but I didnt check what the visuals looked like with it on so will have a look to compare. I had forgotten how to do that, thanks for the reminder. Will try this with MSFS too. I got MSFS with that train of thought but it didnt last. For some of us the urge to start tweaking is too great to resist 😁 Oh heres a blast from the past! This was to tweak the fsx.cfg Just look at all that. I hasten to add that this was THE advice to follow if you wanted the blurries gone in FSX. It really worked!😀 https://www.simforums.com/FORUMS/nvi-w7810-driver-setup-fsx-fsxse-and-p3d-update_topic59954.html Early days for me but so far no CTD, stutter yes! I have got a new rig planned but I will be on this old crate for a while so will have to stick to low and slow. Thank you, just wanted to post that for users who are new and those on weak systems. We cannot enjoy it full bore but what we do have is miles ahead of anything FSX gives. Wow nice intel there about dev mode aircraft swap thanks very much! 😀 Thanks for this interesting info. Fortunately Im not!
  16. Thats a good point. I have tried adjusting it manually and using the presets (Office, Movie etc). It also has a Game mode and that does reduce the bleachyness but also increases the sharpness to ridiculous levels so I play with it turned off. However I have just installed ReShade and its helped a lot. Using its Levels setting slider I have reduced the brightness. Also used its Color boost mode to make the Asian and South American rainforests look more verdant! Now Amazon bush flying feels even more awesome.
  17. Yes,this is why I said it was a subjective thing. I feel they are a bit overdone but I understand when others say it looks fine to them. I wish they had sliders so that both sides can be happy. Many many other games have them so Im hoping this one gets them in a future update. I realize its not a priority for them. If you see the first 40 seconds of this video, thats how I want the world to look. Yes bright but not the bleached effect - although I would agree with bleach while flying over barren desert or white beaches!
  18. @Glenn Fitzpatrick oh I see thanks for explaining. I recall reading in Flying Magazine about graphical planning where they showed how you can just drag the route line around. So impressive and now this mod brings it to us. I agree I find the stock units very bothersome and fiddly so I look forward to using this. What a star this modder is.
  19. That is a good point but the reason for the powerful CPU is that I want to future proof the PC for a long time. I can always sell the 3060 and upgrade the gfx card. Also I will need a 1440 monitor which I dont have...additional cost 😞 I would love to game at 1440, i will look for used display on eBay!
  20. I totally agree with you. So tired of all that, shudder to think of the FSX days. Like you I do not want to look at a world map with some boxes outlining certain areas with addon mesh/scenery "The sim looks best when I fly in those places" Nope nope!
  21. Totally agree 🙂 I am planning on a new gaming rig. I have not chosen the components yet but it will have 32GB RAM, at least RTX3060 12GB and 11th Gen Intel or Ryzen 5800X CPU. Oh that brings back memories! ☝️ and also HIGHMEMFIX
  22. Thanks for making a post on this, Im gonna get this mod! Where would gaming be without modders, for real. I just wanted to ask since I am not familiar - what does it do that the default stock Garmins in the TBM, C172 etc cannot? Just curious 🙂
