simtom replied to David Mills's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Come on man, stop it. Isn't that how ALL games are being marketed? Game publishers aren't going to show in-game footage running at the lowest settings, they'll make sure it's running at Ultra. Not sure why you're linking a benchmarking video, those programs are designed to stress your hardware. Honestly, it's the same story for every graphically heavy game: if you want Ultra settings running at 60 FPS you better have the latest and greatest in terms of CPU and GPU. They're not going to make a game that runs Ultra at 60 FPS when you have a 3+ years old GPU or CPU. -

How Far Can This New World Take Us?
simtom replied to dal330200's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Dare I say that we might get a Microsoft Train Simulator in the future as well? Imagine if you land at an airport and just hop into a train or truck and go to the next airport (and repeat). -
Really like the idea of the multiplayer aspect.

New interview with Jörg Neumann v.2
simtom replied to Nedo68's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
TL;DR: Jörg Neumann once worked for Digital Anvil (founded by Chris Roberts (Star Citizen); they had to solve the issue of dark sides of buildings; around 300 landmarks are handmade, the rest is made by using algorithms; they build 1.5 billion houses in the cloud every day; every airplane that is currently on the move can also be found in the simulator. You can fly and watch the other airplane fly over the clouds; engine is from Asobo and is using Double-precision floating-point; they had ATC from day one working in MSFS (taken from FSX); they used code from FSX at the start but then rewrote everything (starting in 2016); the world is divided into squares with a side length of 64 meters each, up to a height of 65,000 feet. For each of these cubes there are values for humidity, air pressure, which particles float around and other sensor data. This also means that the air is moving in the right wind direction and strength; the clouds are made out of voxels and are rendered with raymarching - a kind of raytracing. In addition, the clouds are generated dynamically. When it rains and gets warmer, it generates lift; CPU is used for instruments and autopilot. Everything else is done by the GPU, this offers a lot of computing power because it can use multi threading; Is there a casual mode? Neumann: No, not at all. We don't want to do this as a game. Our target group are people for whom flying is a hobby. They know a lot about it; How important are mods? Neumann: [...] I see the Flight Simulator as a platform, not as a game or simulation; Around 200 people are working on this sim, 120 from Asobo and 20 to 30 people at MS (they help with machine learning). There are also a few smaller teams, including in Austria; How far has development progressed? Neumann: We're in Pre Tech Alpha. The simulation is there, you can do anything. But not all planes are ready yet. For the 47,000 airports, we would like to go through the data and correct them if necessary. We are still working on accessibility. There is always something to do. We simulate the world, you can go into endless detail. -
November 27th, 2019 – Development Update
simtom replied to ArchStanton's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
What exactly do you try to accomplish, Max? On every single bit of information that we got from MSFS you have been critiquing them (weather looks bad, it's all marketing, no real examples, ...). We really don't need that kind of pessimism here. Of course, people can have their doubts and their opinion but you only list negative things that aren't even confirmed yet. It's like you wish that MSFS will be a failure. So you truly believe that the enthusiasm of the dev team is all fake, maybe they are just actors? And that's based on what exactly? The default aircraft from previous FS versions can't even be compared to this, it's apples to oranges. Yep, crazy. We've been asking for this kind of simulator for years and now that it's finally happening we get people saying that X-Plane or P3D is better, smh. Fine for them I guess. -

Seriously? You consider it a bad video because there's no A320 or 747? Keep in mind that this video was made for the Global Preview Event last September.- 220 replies

They probably just had some problems with the first version of the Alpha. All beginnings are difficult 😉

Alpha 2 recruitment ends on December 12th so they will be very close to each other. Maybe even a merge?

Partnership Announcement - ICON
simtom replied to simtom's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
From what I've read I think it includes more than just them testing the aircraft. They said that for some aircraft they received the CAD drawings and such. I do believe they want to re-create the smaller GA aircraft on a 1:1 scale. -
Partner Visit – ICON Last Monday (11/18/19) I visited the Icon headquarters in sunny California. During my visit I had the opportunity to help fine tune the Icon A5 with a few of their test pilots. As the plane already matched the POH (Pilot’s operating handbook) we spent the majority of our time reviewing some specific areas like stall mechanics, water landings/takeoffs, the engine’s detailed power curve, handling, and response to control surface movement. Though this was a short trip, I had such a great time working with the team at Icon. The Icon A5 is such an amazing aircraft with great performance, security, and handling. It was great to show the simulation to the Icon crew, and to hear the test pilots say how happy they were with the simulation of the aircraft. Another partner update coming soon! -Sebastian Wloch- Can be found in the Insider Area at flightsimulator.com

Yes, bashing was the wrong word 😀 -

That's what I meant, I hope we don't get too critical about the scenery. Always keep in mind where we came from and where we are now. Maybe in 5-10 years most of the inaccuracies will be gone. Well, in the end it's not Asobo that captures the Bing data, that's Microsoft's task. That's not to say they can't improve it of course. I've read somewhere that they feed back the improved data to the Bing team, so they work together (which can only be beneficial to all of us). -

I fully expect it to be messy at some spots in the world, but that's not Asobo's fault. One big advantage is that once new imagery is captured it can be imported to MSFS. I just hope that people won't bash the simulator because of satellite inaccuracies. -
I wouldn't consider that to be a representative test, mostly because optimization is done after those builds (for the most part). Apart from that, certain features might not be working or be incomplete.

Are planes in the demo's all default aircraft
simtom replied to FPStewy's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Showing off add-ons in pre-release trailers is a no-no (and in some countries even illegal unless there's a disclaimer). So yes, those are default. -
I agree and it kinda reminds me of a Red Dead Redemption 2 thread I was following before it was released. They were basically trying to map out the game based on a leaked map years ago and all the screenshots and trailers that were released. Lots of speculation but in a positive way, not like we see here.

Will it be PMDG, A2A, Milviz or default Asobo?
simtom replied to Dominique_K's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
As a real life drone pilot I would like to see some multirotor love here 😀 That way I could practice my shoot all while sitting at home haha -
As of today we only have a handful of aircraft (and manufactures partnerships) confirmed. Maybe we'll have Bombardier as well, alongside many others. In my opinion it would be really weird to not include a 737. It's possible that they might include the MAX but haven't showed it yet because of the real life events and investigations.
