  1. You are likely looking at the total CPU load. One core could be very high and the others much lower given a total load that is low like 25%. Whatever core your MSFS main thread is running on is likely much higher than that. If you are running 4K ultra then change nothing and enjoy! Your GPU will be fine. You paid for its power why not utilize it? As long as it isn't running too hot, like 90C or more.
  2. If I try to run at 2K or anything less than 4K the instruments look much less sharp. As I am most often flying IFR I want a crisp clear panel. I am using a 48" 4K monitor and sitting rather close to it, so this is expected. As a result I'm stuck pushing my 2080 Super into the ground and often seeing less than 30FPS.
  3. Don't know this aircraft but I would bet that it uses the batteries (DC) to run cabin lights/service lights for servicing operations. Most large aircraft use mostly AC systems and thus an AC GPU (Ground Power Unit.) However, the main ship batteries are DC and some systems, like lights, are DC. These aircraft will have inverters to make AC from DC power, delivered from the batteries. They will also have rectifier units to make DC out of AC, as provided by a ground cart or the engine generators.
  4. Pull that mixture back, at high altitudes you are making a lot less power. All that extra fuel at full rich is to cool the cylinders at high power settings and lower air speeds by dumping more fuel than will burn in the cylinders. At altitude you aren't at high power, low density air without a turbo charger, it will not have enough air to make much power even though you are at full throttle (you will see lower manifold pressure.) At cruise, high speed, you get plenty of cooling air over the cylinders and you engine output is much lower so you don't need the cooling effect of the extra fuel. There are proper methods on how to lean it out, probably explained in the POH. If I recall it was something like lean to peak EGT then bump it just a tad richer from that. You might end up at say 50% mixture at 8K Ft. As a result of proper leaning at altitude you will make a bit more power. It would also be helpful to calculate the best climb speed of the aircraft. Slower or faster than this speed will result in less climb rate.
  5. I think you about have it right now. I don't really remember and am not going to look up regs at the moment but I think that you could not legally file and fly an IFR flight plan with no certified GPS and known gaps in VOR/NDB coverage. In reality, everyone has a GPS device that while it might not be certified (like your iPhone/iPad) it is going to be running as a backup device. While fun and necessary, swinging the needles and using dead reckoning will be comfortingly backed up with actual path on your iPad. On modern heavy equipment, oceanic crossings and the like will be done using certified GPS and inertial reference units as most of the flight will be out of range of terrestrial based radio navigation.
  6. Dead reckoning can be used for navigation. For VFR flight. Dead reckoning - Wikipedia I think that for IFR, legally, you need certified instruments not an iPad (GPS).
  7. Yeah I don't think you will find any TV's running that resolution. Going to be hard to find an actual computer monitor running that high (saw only two on a quick search of NewEgg) and they will be much smaller than 55". A 3090 GPU struggles with standard 4K in MSFS, even more pixels seems like an unachievable goal.
  8. Old post but replying anyway. I am running a LG CX 48" on my machine. MSFS looks great at 4K and I'm happy with this setup (GPU is 2080 Super-CPU is 10900K.) G-Sync seems to be working well. In Ultra I'm only able to push mid 20FPS at low altitudes in dense areas and see upper 30FPS in lower density areas and at high altitudes with occasional blips lower and higher. 98% of the time I am GPU limited. I don't know if the G-Sync has improved performance. My prior setup was with a non G-Sync monitor 2560x1440 so I can't compare a non G-Sync 4K display with the CX. I need (ok want) to acquire a 3080 as the sim clearly needs more GPU. It looks amazing though. If only 30+ FPS could be consistently achieved in 4K and Ultra settings I'd be happy. So be aware that with your 2080 FPS may not be great. The G-Sync helps prevent screen tearing but it will not help FPS. One other note, this is a lot of screen. I got a 48" instead of the 55" even though the price point was about the same as I was worried about sitting to close. I feel this concern is valid if desk mounting the display. I have it mounted as far back as possible on a large desk and its still a little too close (I use a swing arm fully adjustable mount so the TV can be rotated, moved up or down, and extended out, for use as a TV from other areas of the room.) I feel like I need another 12" or so between my eyes and the display for comfort while used as a monitor seated at the desk. So I'll likely look into wall mounting the display behind the desk.
  9. This is the first aircraft I've paid for in MSFS2020. I'm normally more about the airliners but this bird is a good time. I have a few hundred hours in real life of various PA28 aircraft, although that was a long time ago, and this brings back many fond memories. First flight was about an hour long and spent trying to remember how things worked. I enjoyed this immensely. No I didn't spoil the fun by reading the manual but it's really nice that they included one. Also enjoyed the old panel, just like I used to fly. I even pulled out a sectional and played with swinging some VOR needles. The second flight was about an hour and a half and I was still having a blast. Used the Garman, figured out the DME, dialed up an ADF and even figured out how to slave the auto pilot to the GPS. Had a good laugh when the GPS said that I had 60 some miles to my destination and that it would take about 30 minutes to get there. That can't be right...oh yeah I'm going about 115kts. Anyway, thank you Just Flight! I think I'm going to enjoy this aircraft for many hours to come. Well worth the cost of entry. My only request at this point, figure out how to get AM stations in sim so I can listen to them on the ADF. : )
  10. Have you looked at the developer modes FPS counter? At 4K even with your 3090 I would think you are GPU limited. If so its unlikely you would find much benefit from a CPU upgrade. I also like to tinker with the machine, so I'd add more ram to get up to 64GB just in case it does actually help the 3090. I think what is really needed for 4K in this sim is a 15900K and a 5090Ti.....
  11. I had that issue as well after the update. Just got finished with a flight after installing latest development build and screens were back, good to go.
  12. Not sure if 1044 is a resolution reference? If so, at lower resolutions fps will be CPU main thread limited. Get a CPU with the highest IPC and frequency as possible. At least four core, more core count than that will not help much, its the single thread performance you need most (thus Intel might be a good choice.) SSD and 16GB of fast memory (say 3600) would be beneficial as well. At lower resolutions the GPU will be less important in this sim. No need for 3080 or 3090 sort of power as those cards will be waiting on the maxed out CPU main thread and not be fully utilized. However, all that is applicable to MSFS, if you do other things or play other games then priorities might be different.
  13. Thanks for the feedback. I can get acceptable frame rates (30-40) sometimes and would have no issues if I would lower settings from Ultra across the board. I want it all though and while disappointed that such high end hardware can be brought to its knees by MSFS at 4k, I'm glad they built a sim that pushes the limits. I think if I insist on 4k, this is to be expected. Overall very happy with things and thankful that MS finally gave us a shiny new sim! Hopefully further optimizations will be forthcoming and I can eventually get ahold of a 3080 or 3090.
  14. Thanks that was a good read. I'm pushing for max eye candy and 4k. Looks like nothing to be done to my machine to increase performance but to upgrade the GPU. Crazy that my 2080 Super isn't enough. Even the mighty 3090 is barely adequate.
  15. Also finally retired my CHPro's. Really enjoying the Thrustmaster TPR Pedals now. Expensive but very nice and is recognized by MSFS correctly.
  16. I'm excited to try out VR in this sim. It is such a different experience that I think most would really enjoy giving it a try. I have a rather old HTC Vive and certainly have found it to be quite a bit of fun. It is useful for more than just sims and the kids love it. A newer gen headset is not currently in my budget but I will upgrade at some point as these things have got a lot better over the last few years. No doubt a VR setup is expensive and some will not find it comfortable for long periods of time. My advice is to try one out if possible before making the investment in the equipment. Quick flights for city tours and aerobatics is what I'm looking forward to. Long IFR flights, not so much. Eventually I think VR and mixed reality will be the ticket but it isn't a very mature tech yet. The headsets and graphics power needed to drive them still have a ways to go for a comfortable no compromise experience. For the budget conscious I would not invest at this point you need to spend a lot for an enjoyable setup. In addition, some people have a hard time adapting to VR. Your brain needs to work with it and that can be impossible for some. Motion sickness and head aches are not experience enhancing. For me, I'm in and can't wait to try this sim in VR and I look forward to better hardware in the future.
  17. Thanks for the link, I was wondering where to find it. Love CRQ and the default airport is not an enjoyable experience. I'll give this a try.
  18. Seems like doubling the price from Standard to Premium is a little excessive. I'll buy Premium though.
