Active Pause - Why such exists?
Pevenhull replied to kapitan's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
If there is facility to pause, it's not a sim, it's a game. Likewise, the text banners when adjusting instruments or controls. Never seen that in real life. If you can't fly the airplane without being told what the knob does, you should spend some time on the ground familiarising yourself. You should be able to put your hand straight on what you want. -
Thought I'd do some screenshots of Wellesbourne Mountford on X-Plane 11.50 Orbx True Earth, and then on MSFS2020. Compare the results with recent aerial photos taken by the GA pilots at Wellesbourne. Problem. Started MSFS and it got to the 'Press any key to Start' screen. Pressed the CTRL key like normal, screen went black and it returned to the 'Press any key to start' screen. Does this every time since yesterday afternoon. Oh well, shame. What's the fix? PS FileStore works abysmally. Ref last post. ( Last Post, excuse the pun ).

Why we need VR
Pevenhull replied to Aceman2020's topic in Virtual Reality (VR) for Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
To get 45 fps on VR HP Reverb G2 with all the bells and whistles switched on in flight simulators, you'll need at least a RTX2080 Super. Pref a RTX 2080ti or wait for RTX 3080. Loadsamoney. -
Where is it?

I'm going to upset a few people now. I do most my flying around the Midlands of England. Some trips to Cornwall via the Severn estuary. I'm afraid to say, Orbx True Earth Great Britain has buildings and landmarks MUCH better represented than BlackShark.AI. REAL buildings I know are not recognisable in BlackShark, but are in Orbx TE. Runway surface textures at grass airfields is not representative. It's rough on MSFS. One of my haunts, Bidford Gliding Club have their runway like a golf fairway. Look at it on Google Streetview. Its a pasture field on MSFS. So is Stoney Lane. On MSFS, there's a friggin great tree right at the threshold of Runway 23. This tree does NOT exist. Woods Farm is mown. On Google Maps Satellite view, you can see it's well kept. Its as rough as a bear's word not allowed on MSFS. On MSFS, Wellesbourne Mountford EGBW, runways are far too narrow. I should know, I've even been in bicycle races round there. Also at EGBW, MSFS has a tall tower just to the east of the main runway with the beacon on it. The beacon at EGBW is in BlackShark's imagination. Incidentally, if you look at The Touchdown Cafe on Streeview, there's a girl with a brown horse. I asked for BROWN SAUCE. All over my patch, country houses and cottages have miraculously enlarged into office blocks and hotels. Tis the same at the other extreme. Solihull Church has been reduced to a large bike shed. That was the last straw. Vast swathes of the Warwickshire countryside are as familiar to me on MSFS as they would be to any stranger. Birmingham city centre on Orbx has a recognisable Post Office tower, Selfridges Building, Radison Blu, etc. Villa Park, St Andrews, The Hawthorns, Molineux, Bescot, The Ricoh in Coventry. They all have the correct colour seating and graphics on Orbx. Everybody raved. After investigation, BlackShark AI gets a big thumbs down from me. Canals and rivers are far too large. Railway lines are hardly noticable. Lots of VRPs are not as the should be. To these ends, it is back to X-Plane for me. Another grumble for MSFS2020. Airplane control surfaces are not tunable to the same degree as I can tune response curves in XP. The Elevator trim in the C152 is extremely sensitive. At EGBW, ATC does not respond to me. I sat there waiting for clearance to take off. I made my own decision in the end and took off with no shouting from the tower. Oh well. I only spent £1 on Xbox Game Pass. Phew I didn't lose £60. 😪

I'm going to admit ignorance here. I am setting up my environment for the days of VR, which should happen in October. The VFR map window is good to a point where it does not display restricted airspace details. eg. D 3500 4500 ATM, I am referring to a real chart for this info. What do you think of Navigraph? 8.30 Euros per month. Will Navigraph be a virtual tablet in VR? Cheers,

Small Airfields without parking or ramps

Post Script. Whoever chose that dreadful depressing music needs to be shot. I now don my headphones when the Ready to Fly notice appears. -
Is Microsoft putting out updates?
Pevenhull replied to odourboy's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
I have a cycling buddy who has just retired from Rolls Royce at Birmingham Business Park, nr Marston Green, West Midlands, England. He's appalled by Microsoft releasing with this many 'bloody defects'. I worked for a while at Lucas Aerospace, Shaftmore Lane, Birmingham; and The Radleys, Marston Green. I moved to SAGEM, dealing with motorcar engine management. Two different worlds. IMHO, for land-bound electronics, motorcar Engine Management Systems have the best reliability and give the least warranty claims of anything. Its the Telematics, Infotainment and Human/Machine Interface that costs the most in warranty. -

That is a 'Patch'. In the motorcar trade, its called SOTA. 'Software Over The Air'. They are not detectable by the user. -

Do you mean Patches? -
When you need to divert to another airfield, terminate coms and retune the transponder to 7000. Select 'Nearby Airports' from the ATC dropdown. Click on an airport and the ATC window will show the frequency. Retune coms and announce yourself. Choose 'Stop Landing' from the dropdown. Click 'Approach' and then 'Final' when ready. Tower will give you clearance. Land.

This is not a product for simmers, but for gamers.
Pevenhull replied to IgorBR's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
After a 'Game' flight, you think "put the kettle on." After a 'Sim' flight, you think "Where's the cafe?" -
In the UK, a lot of smaller fields are not listed in the dropdown list and therefore do not appear on the map. But, they are on the scenery. Landing and takeoff should be possible if the grass texture is representative. Alscot, Warwickshire. Woods Farm, West Midlands to name two. Visited. Upfield Farm, South Wales yet to be checked.

PSA: ORBX Updates in Central
Pevenhull replied to cwburnett's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Ahh but, but, but... consider this. The whole of London is LONDON CTR SFC 2500' What building definition are you going to see from 2700 ft ? Orbx have included the 'just necessary' detail of London POI so they are recognisable from >2500'. For seven quid, its a bargain. -
so glad I didn't buy that new system

I'm running i5 8600K at 4.5 GHz, RTX 2080ti std clock. 16 Gbyte Samsung RAM. Silky smooth on ASUS ROG 34" 4K monitor. Waiting for HP Reverb G2.
