Over and out.
BUSTED!You can NOT both be "over" and "out" at the same time..."Over" means "I have finished talking and I am listening for your reply." Short for "Over to you." "Out" means " I have finished talking to you and do not expect a reply."The two words are mutually exclusive... :( 73 de N4GIX

No , Dan , I don't believe you were there . Perhaps you weren't even a twinkle in your father's eyes at that time ! This "story" is still referred to on many RNZAF threads about escapades in the famous Bristol 170 "shaker/vibrator" Freighter aircraft .The Perspex astrodome on the aircraft , when opened and folded forwards , does provided a certain amount of aerodynamic buffering .Those of you who are familiar with this aircraft , will always remember seeing a "body" sitting outside the astrodome , directing the pilot whilst taxiing . Forward visibility from the cockpit whilst taxiing , is virtually NIL !Cheers ,MONTY.
Perhaps you could give us a link to that, as well as to the French law that you said doesn't allow French pilots and aircrew to strike?

1. You can plough your way through thousands upon thousands of pages of our escapades and adventures whilst serving in the RAF on the "PRUNE" site . Start reading from January 1965 onwards , as that is when I joined 9 Squadron , Avro Vulcan B2 Bombers at RAF Cottesmore . Also the "NAAFI Rejects" site from down under , mentions quite a few more . In the UK , the "ex-Military Mates Site" mentions even more , as so does SP's , although that site has changed considerably since I was last on . You can also refer to the 100th Entry of RAF Apprentices at RAF Locking Web Site, of which I was a member , for more facts and figures , and a few laughs if you have any sense of humour , which I obviously doubt ! You can also read up for your own amusement , of our life serving in SOAF (Sultan of Oman's Air Force) in the war against South Yemen when we were based at Salalah . Many books have been written about the "Border Wars" in South West Africa (now Namibia) where I served with 19 Squadron SAAF (South African Air Force). 2. Why don't you contact the ALTER Union direct , as only 12% of Air France Pilots and Aircrew belong to that Union . The SNPL Union claims a further 75% of Pilots and Aircrew belong to them . Both Unions have different "Laws", (Rules and Regulations) . I am sure they will be happy to supply you with all the necessary facts and figures that you require . The main reason why I took that flight in the RNZAF Bristol "Shaker" from Butterworth in Malaya down to RAF Tengah , was to take the Green Satin Tri-Set Doppler Radar equipment from Vulcan B2 XM600 to be repaired in the "Gym Palace" at RAF Tengah in Singapore over the weekend . It was a VITAL piece of Navigation equipment on board our Vulcans for precision bombing . We were due to bomb Indonesia the following week , and had run out of spares at Butterworth . That weekend became well known , throughout the FEAF , as we were at an uninvited birthday party at the C in C's house in Singapore , and he entered the living room just as Royd Harris finished playing his latest rendition on the piano , and was now regurgitating gallons of Tiger beer back into the grand piano ! By the time he had called the MP's , we had all long vanished ! I caught a slightly faster RAF Bristol Britannia C Mk1 very early the next morning back up to Butterworth with the Tri-Set ! Evidently search parties for the "gate-crashers" at the C-in-C's daughter's birthday party went on in Singapore for months afterwards ! They even sent search parties out to Borneo to look for us ! Fortunately nobody new our correct names , or units !Below is an attachment of my old "Office" in XM594 . The Green Satin Doppler Radar Control Indicator is at the bottom left hand corner . It gave you your exact GROUND SPEED , DRIFT and MILES FLOWN . This information along with the GPI's information (Ground Position Indicator) which is on the right of the Green Satin Indicator , gave you accurate enough information to drop a 1,000 pounder bomb right into a fire bucket 50,000 feet below when computed through the Navigational Bombing System ! Weather never bothered us in those days , we simply flew above it ! Cheers ,MONTY.

I have just received an e-mail from a fellow member of the 100th. Entry of RAF Locking Aircraft Apprentices , now residing in the Philippines , enclosing this picture of what he states as the actual RNZAF Bristol 170 Shaker Freighter that I flew in , seen here at RAAF Butterworth , Malaya and was used for transport , as well as supply drops into the jungle during the Malaysian Confrontation War .I don't lie , or fib , or make up weird stories ! If I am wrong about anything , I am always the first to admit a mistake . :( Cheers ,MONTY.

Tee Hee :( It was meant in the popularist "tv drama" sense, appropriate to forum debate - rather than in the stricter (yet sometimes lax) sense of radio telephony syntax.

You made the original assertions. Why can't you provide the links that would settle these matters - it should be easy enough to find the French law to support your claim that
Air France Pilots and Aircrew by French Law , are NOT allowed to strike
(My emphasis)

Dear Mr/Mrs/Miss/Master mghWhy don't you start by reading through this web site , where I think you will find all the answers to your questions .http://www.pprune.org/index.phpI hereby consider the matter CLOSED .Cheers ,MONTY.PS. For those of you who may be interested , this is a shot of the inside of a Green Satin Doppler Radar Tri-set . Today , all this equipment would fit inside a small shoe box ! The NBS Bombing Test Rig today would also probably fit into a small pedal bin !

For those of you who would like to know more about the Green Satin Doppler Radar Equipment , try John Dillon's web site .http://www.john-dillon.co.uk/V-Force/green_satin.htmlI fear that there are too many "Sciolists" on this thread at present .For the unitiated , SCIOLIST = Noun , Archaic .... meaning : "A person who PRETENDS to be knowledgeable and well informed" .Below a picture of a "busy night in the office" .Cheers ,MONTY.That doesn't appear to be a good link , so when the "Oooops! Some thing broke" screen comes up , just click on the "Do you mean ....."

Where on that site does it provide evidence that
Air France Pilots and Aircrew by French Law , are NOT allowed to strike
?Let's close the matter by agreeing that you can't find any evidence to support your claim possibly because there isan't any.

Gerry Howard

Air France Pilots and Aircrew by French Law , are NOT allowed to strike . Hence the polite wording in the Notice ."REFUSEZ TOUT VOL SUR A330/A340N'AYANT PAS AU MOINSDEUX SONDES PITOT MODIFIEES"Google's deplorable translation reads:"NOT ON ANY FLIGHT A 330/A340NOT AT LEASTMODIFIED TWO PITOT PROBE"My simple schoolboy French/Portuguese/German/Afrikaans/Zulu/Xhosa translation would read :"Refuse to fly on A330/A340 aircraft , until the two Pitot Tubes have been modified ".So what may I ask , is YOUR interpretation of the Union's Notice ???Cheers ,MONTY.
If you can supply POSITIVE Documentary proof of Air France Pilots and Aircrew being allowed by French Law to strike when and where they wish to , I will gladly retract the word "NOT" from the above statement from Post number 184 .Otherwise the matter is CLOSED .

N, that won't work. You made the statement, you need to prove it. All you have to do is quote a link to French law. That should be easy for you because you must have had some reason to make that statement - you surely wouldn't just have invented it with no evidence?

Matter is CLOSED .
It's closed on the basis that you can't substantiate your statement, but aren't prepared to admit that.
