Yeah, he made a decision to stick it out and land. The object is to hit the 1,000' mark on *this* side of the runway :( . You can see the skid marks left by the locked brakes. Yikes, poor decision making on the pilot's part.

Breaking news just in. A pilot landed at St Barthelemy and decided to let his aircraft roll into the sand. Apparently, he was tired from a long trip and just wanted to get to the sand quickly without parking. :(.Yup, I saw the skids too. I LOLed because he did what noob flight simulator pilots do and lock the wheels and turned hard to try to slow down. Although I feel very sorry for the pilot that is a textbook example of bad decision making :(.This is great. 2 Pilot FAILS (the ones you can laugh at because no one is hurt) in HD now.

Looks like some of my flightsim landings! All flight instructors should show that to their students as a demo of why if you don't land in the first 1/3 of the runway, you're supposed to go around.I think get-to-the-beach'itis got the better of him that day :-)

As with all accidents I am sure there is more to this story than just a dumb pilot. From what I read-the winds were very high-this was his 3rd approach-perhaps low on fuel?-did he just have the certification to land at this airport (required)-first time after that?-a long time after that?Who knows...when the facts come out perhaps we can judge what really happened.

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

Does look like a poor decision in not firewalling the thing and going for another try, assuming there was no technical reason or fuel state which prevented that from being an option. To be fair, that is not an easy approach, as evidenced by it being one of the tricky ones people like to try in FS, and I don't think there are many of us who have not stuffed up a landing in some way or another in real life, although my own endeavours have thankfully stopped short of ever wrecking an aircraft. Like they say, any landing you can walk away from...Al
