June 20, 200916 yr I hope all works out well for Justin and that he can pull FSgenesis through the current downturn. A quality product shouldn't be allowed to go down.
June 20, 200916 yr I might add that Justin sent an email giving information that he'll stop all projects due to sales going down. One parapgraph from the newsletter:...FSGenesis has over the past ten years been a labor of love. The fact that it at one time also provided a comfortable living was just icing on the cake. Unfortunately, economic and financial realities now dictate that full-time production must take a back seat to supporting the family. Obviously, we would rather continue to produce quality addons that the community loves, but sales have recently not been and are not now sufficient to allow that production time on a daily basis. Should sales soon return to nearly previous levels, we are prepared to ramp up new production quickly. Meanwhile, the FSG Store will remain open and whatever orders come in, and whatever service/support inquiries that are submitted will continue to be handled in a timely manner. If you already have everything FSGenesis has produced, and you feel inclined to make a donation towards returning to full-time production, please feel free to do so. A link has been provided above on the right. Even small amounts from a large number of people can make an enormous difference and allow us to return to and sustain full-time production and will be greatly appreciated....This is sad. The donation link: http://www.fsgenesis.com/Merchant2/merchan...uct_Code=DONATEEdited: Sorry. Forgot to provide a link to FSGenesis, http://www.fsgenesis.net/, where you'll find excellent mesh for FS.
June 20, 200916 yr Yeah it's kind of worrying. The good news is that FSGenesis is essentially a one man show, so even if he takes the entire site down he should be able to resume operations when things improve. Only problem is there probably won't be a new version of FS to sell updated versions of the products for... -
June 20, 200916 yr What is the difference between what FSGenesis offers to what is offered in Ground Environment X and Ultimate Terrain for FSX?Thanks,RH
June 20, 200916 yr There's always X-Plane. I hear that program needs some help in the scenery department. Maybe the start of a whole new FS? Am I correct in my thinking that Justin played a large part in making FS what it is today? That his products were among the first really professional products that began the payware market that exists today, making the name FSGenesis prophetic?Sad we couldn't get just one more version of FS out the door. Just think, it probably would have been released either this fall or next or so.sigh :( Tom Perry
June 20, 200916 yr What is the difference between what FSGenesis offers to what is offered in Ground Environment X and Ultimate Terrain for FSX?Thanks,RHGEX is scenery textures, UTX is vector data (coastlines, rivers, roads etc.) and landclass. FSGenesis mostly offers elevation meshes (hills and mountains) but there's also a landclass product. There's always X-Plane. I hear that program needs some help in the scenery department. Maybe the start of a whole new FS?What X-Plane needs help with right now isn't really scenery "products" though. The scenery engine is too simplistic.... For example it doesn't support dynamic LOD which means it's impossible to use something like a 10m mesh with decent performance (unless you'd be satisfied with 2 miles visibility). Also the "scenery guy" refuses to program for multi-core meaning performance improvements will eventually stagnate. So unless Justin has unknown C/C++ programming skills, he can't help much at the moment. -

June 20, 200916 yr Can anyone else comment on this product? I already have Ground Environment X USA CANADA and Ultimate Terrain (USA and Canada) installed. Does it matter in what order they are installed? For the mesh you can install either into the default location or manually install it to a temp folder, make folders in the Addon Scenery folder, cut and paste to those locations and activate via the Scenery Library. It allows you to treat the mesh as any other scenery, by use of layering or turning it on/off.Mesh will not affect your installation of GEX or UTX.The land class product should be manually installed to it's own folder location in Addon Scenery and activated via the Scenery Library. This way you can make the "sandwich" of land class between UTX's land class and the FSG land class. It is covered in detail in the UTX manual.
June 20, 200916 yr Moderator Well I for one would not like to see FSG go so once again I'm chipping in. Considering the $$ I've wasted on poor products, this is money well spent.I've been a Galaxy member almost since day one and I wouldn't fly FSX w/o his products. If you can spare a few $$, it is one place that's worth it. If you don't have any of Justin's products, buy some - you won't be sorry!Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
June 20, 200916 yr If you don't have FSGenesis...you are missing a great deal that Flight Simulator has to offer. I've never been without it, and it's a necessary addition to the concept: "As Real as it Gets".Please get it if you can because you won't be sorry.Stan
June 21, 200916 yr I want to purchase the DVD/CD versions. Do they require any kind of online activation? I ask that question because if I build another computer in 6 months and the company is not there, then I won't be able to reactivate. Thanks,RH

I ask that question because if I build another computer in 6 months and the company is not there, then I won't be able to reactivate. Thanks,RHI'm a big fan of FS Genesis, both for the quality of the product and the excellent customer service.I bought a three-year membership (now expired) and I was allowed to download everything I wanted and could request DVD copies of the software to be sent to me without additional charge. And no six-week wait with FS Genesis. The membership was well worth the price. In answer to your question; there is no activation key required. Just point, click, install, and enjoy. ___________________________I'm just flying for the fun of it.
June 21, 200916 yr Here is a quality product put out by a quality person. If the budget allows a contribution should be considered. I will.
June 21, 200916 yr The problem is the lifetime memberships, though that's not what anyone wants to hear. The purchasers are not at fault, they simply took advantage of the best offer they could and want to keep getting the terms they payed for. Any changes in this will only create hostilities (though for new purchasers it could be eliminated).A lifetime package draws in more customers to start with (why it's good at first) but after some time, most of your core buyers have it and there's no longer the amount of money coming in from new people that there once was. Although I'm sure Justin had the best intentions for this, it has come back to bite him in the end.The week economy has nothing to do with this. It's been noted many times that in a week economy, people will still make purchases on small items to entertain themselves or make them feel better about themselves.
