CS 757 review

Featured Replies

It's not necessary. The Block F upgrade is completely useless for those that buy the current FS9 base pack. It's only meant for those that aquired the 57 by buying the various blocks, but it's not necessary anymore.Do note that the FS9 version is still riddled with bugs! The reviewed CS757 is the FSX version (v4.3), but the FS9 is stuck on v2.1, so expect some problems!w4fej: That's the point I made in the openeing post with which I started this thread... Didn't anybody read the atcual opening post or what?
Thank you, Thralni, for your answer concerning the block upgrade.

I'm very pleased with the review of the 757. I purchased a box version of 757 Captain "Just Flight" for both FS9 and FSX. It is inclusive of -200, -300, and 200F Freighter. I would have to go back to my credit card statement but I think I paid less than $40 dollars. Even better when I applied CS 757 4.3 to my FSX I have some 57 liveries just in the 757-200 folder. I've been happy with the 757 except for the RR sounds that came with the product. I replaced the sounds with a TSS version of the RB211 engine for improved full-throttle sound.Keith

I'm not sure why you're giving me a hard time, at the time I posted this TC hadn't clarified your first post. The review was indeed a great one and made the 757 sound good enough that I was CONSIDERING buying it again IF it was indeed 4.3 for FS9 also. After the review I re-installed the FS9 2.1 version just to see if I missed something somewhere and I hadn't, uninstalled it again never to again clutter my hard drive.. Mike B.

Mike: That was in general, since it seemed the post was sort of missed in the course of the thread, which struck me as very weird. Don't take it personally, it wasn't meant that way. Sorry if you did...

The review gave me reason to try out the demo... given the general consensus of opinion on the Internet regarding CaptainSim, I thought not to go ahead and purchase...True, it does look generally good, but I have seen better VCs, the PMDG MD-11 in FS9 looks as good in my opinion, some of the newer packages being released for FSX blow the CS757 away... I think also that the demo has locked flight controls is a joke... of course they mention this, but that only allows me to view the basic visuals...The result of the demo for me is a clear NO... I suppose I could thank them for that :)I am probably going to invest the cash instead in the Catalina for FSX, and perhaps add an airport to that... FMI or LOWI...Cheers for the in depth review! :)Andrew

Thanks for the kind comments. If a review gets you to look at something and make up your own mind, that's mission accomplished, as far as I'm concerned.

As a reviewer that has been harsh on the Captain Sim 757 here on the web boards, the latest version is a huge improvement over the earlier versions which were unusable on my system due to well documented roll control problems. I enjoyed the review, but would suggest that the author not read too much into the sales numbers for the 757 in reaching the conclusion that it was not the airplane the 767 is, or the 737. The 757 was a little too much airplane to replace the 727, which was its intended market. Frankly it just cost too much, although it is in all ways a very pilot friendly, powerful and nice handling jet.The 737, in comparison, is a slow footed, marginally underpowered, cramped, noisy, airplane that leaves a pilot wishing he had the seniority to hold the 757.The fact that the most efficient jet in service today remains the 757 tells you something about the rightness of the design. It's problem in the market was that it came out when the airlines were going broke. The launch customer was Eastern. Fuel also got cheap, removing the incentive to pay more for the more efficient 757. When the market finally recovered Boeing was forced to design the 737 NG to compete with the Airbus 319. What they built was a 757 killer. The 737NG could do most of the mission required of a 757 for a third to half the price. No pilot who has flown both would say they prefer the 737 to the 757. It is like the comparison between a Huyndai and an S Class Mercedes. Both will do the job, one just does the job with extra power, polish and finesse. :(
