J41 Engine Start Guide

Good video, but it goes through it much too fast. Can you edit the video to slow it down? Otherwise, it's just too fast to use proparly as an aid.
Sorry you feel that way, Matthew. As I mentioned in the YouTube description, the rate of speed of the video was intentional. I dislike tutorial videos that are longer than they need to be. This video was designed with the pause function in mind, so one can pause or return to segments that went by quickly. It may not be your preference, but I think the video will still help those that are in need of a good visual aid. Also, I'm sure there are some crafty video producers out there right now that are putting together even better videos and tutorials: stay tuned for those.-Andrew Noble

The main sticking point for me is FSX. The environment is pathetic - YSSY resembles a desert strip - and the performance I get from even the default FSX C172 is abysmal. My rig isn't even what I would think would be considered slow:Hewlett-Packard Pavilion PCOS: MS Windows XP (Media Center Edition)CPU: Intel Core2 6400 @ 2.13GHzRAM: 2GBVideo Card: NVidia GeForce 7600GS - 512MB RAMHDD: 280GB capacity
I don't know if PMDG intends on releasing an FS9 version of this craft, but yes, FSX is an atrocity. Long story short, you simply need a fast(er) CPU. Yours, in all honesty, isn't one that could handle FSX and a complex simulation like this. Get an E8400 and OC it to around 3.5 or 3.6 GHz. You'll be surprised what a 150$ upgrade can do in FSX. @ Andrew,Agreed, while the longer tutorials are useful, the short ones can be just as comprehensive. IMO, longer ones let the viewer absorb all the information and follow along, in real time, the procedures at hand.

I've got a pretty fast PC, by today's standards; Q9550 @ 4GHzGTX 285 1GB4GB PC2-8500C4 RAMEven with that, FSX is abysmal once you've added 3rd party scenery and aircraft. I'd give anything for the J41 to be available on FS9, it looks such a fantastic aircraft.

I was inspired to create a short video tutorial on how to stop and start the J41's engines, starting from the default aircraft configuration (not cold and dark). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDxWAxPE1UMRegards,-Andrew Noble
Great video, and the first video favorited on the PMDG J41 YouTube Channel!

4Ghz??!!!! :( How on Earth do you get abysmal performance with a 4Ghz CPU and a GTX-285? I also have a Q9550 (at the stock frequency of 2.83Ghz), plus a 512MB GeForce 9800GT, and FSX runs fine most of the time with VFR Generation X Version 2 photographic scenery. Mind you, I don't generally use autogen, and framerates drop to around 10fps with VFR London X set to Extremely Dense :(

Thank you Andrew for that beautiful video! I think your move with "pause if you need to" was a good one.

Hi guys,I want to start by saying to PMDG thank you very much she is beautifull :( , To the guy who made the video thank you aswell. The only problem I have is when I follow the video I lose all the flight data I have entered in the fmc :( . I dont know if I have missed it in the manual but I cant find a pre flight procedures like in the 747-400X. Sorry in advance if I am being dumb. Many thanks again for this beautifull bird.........Ryan King

Ok seriously, read the Tutorial w/AOM when it told me too, watched the videos, read the posts, and I still can't get it on. Starting to ###### myself off, is there like a point form verison somewhere. I searously have been trying all day and can't get it. Thanks. PPPPPPPLLLLLLLLEEEEAAASSSSSEEEEEEE J T COLLINS

Very nice video. I like the speed. Most tutorial videos I close because I can trial and error faster! The big starting problem I was having was because I didn't load the tutorial flight. My default flight causes the engines not to start for some reason.Otherwise, I would have been flying on my first attempt.Tim Dobrowolsky
