September 7, 200916 yr Is accumsim just the heidi addon? If so then I will pass on that. I really just want the plane and the realistic flight model, spins etc. The heidi thing I could care less about.Heidi is just the icing on the cake (and is completely optional) but accusim is sooooo much more than that. If you want the realistic flight model, the engine wear and tear (I've already had to overhaul two), the extra sounds (the creaks, the bumps and the wind and draughts you get when you crack the window open) etc etc, then you will need to get accusim as well. I have been surprised how much I like having Heidi though as I was not expecting to use that part of accusim at all. In short bursts she is great, especially when you take 'Nervous Heidi' on a flat spin and make her scream :(
September 7, 200916 yr I was going to wait till next week buying this plane since I just bought the J41 the other day. With all Ive been reading and seeing about this plane, Im going to have to make the plunge tonight.Rob
September 7, 200916 yr Hey, at least she knows where you're at. It is a hell of a lot cheaper than a bass boat.Exactly.It's also a hell of lot cheaper than flying for real. Whenever I want to buy add-ons, I bring up flying lessons ($) and buying a real aircraft ($$$). She-who-must-be-obeyed, who won't go for either ("too expensive," "too dangerous," "what if something happens to you, what will I and the kids do?" etc. etc. etc.), always caves. :( Joel Murray @ CYVR (actually, somewhere about halfway between CYNJ and CZBB)
September 7, 200916 yr You're married to "She Who Must Be Obeyed," too? Wow... Seriously, I can't complain because my wife is a very tolerant sweetheart, and I told her I got the "redhead Heidi" as a stand-in for her. (Heidi could arguably be blond, too, so unless your SO is a brunette, it might work for you.) I am glad A2A did not go the feelThere route with the shiny stewardess with cleavage in the Ejet! Very tasteful and fun.I have been trying to do touch and gos at Saba. Between the lack of visibility (duck Heidi!) the crosswind and the floatiness, this is a very hard trick for me. And FS Pax doesn't like the Cub. For some reason it just falls over and burns every time LOL.This is one of those products that if it tempts you at all, you should just give in. You won't be disappointed (unless you like fast).

September 8, 200916 yr Thanks a lot! Also, make sure your realism is set full right for all sliders, or it won't bank properly. As for visibility, just use ctl shift enter combos to look over Heidi's shoulder and you can see everything just fine during those 3-point landings.Tried out the floats. They're really sticky breaking loose from the water! Heavy drag effect, too. Very tricky. The engine has a real personality. If it doesn't sound right, there is indeed something wrong. You can fly the thing practically sideways! What a remarkable job they've done. It may be better than a helicopter for checking out new scenery. I've already flown it around Aerosoft's African Airstrip Adventures scenery. (Also caught some screenshots of their Phantom project.)
September 8, 200916 yr Yeah, they have truly outdone themselves with this. IMO definitely the best aircraft made for FSX to date.I need to practice my landings, I'm currently using too much runway - It doesn't seem to want to stop flying :)
September 8, 200916 yr Still getting the hang of it. Frames were very good over Montauk (UTX/REX textures/ASA with overcast) - maybe a 5 FPS hit with a cap of 30. Tried it just now at Plum Island and there was a bit more of a penalty - with moderate clouds, it was getting into the 15 FPS range. All figures with scenery complexity and autogen at very dense. Lowering those settings to dense didn't help much at Plum Island, so there may be some challenges in the way it interacts with the (very detailed) scenery. Tomorrow I'll work more with the settings - might need to reduce cloud layers in ASA (I'm at 5 at the moment). The Cub is so good that I'm willing to trade back some settings to use it.AlanJust a further update about frames - after more testing, the problem areas around Plum Island seem limited to two areas - north and south of the airport, along the shoreline. Someone suggested on the A2A forums that these might be the areas where the whale animations appear. I can't confirm because I've yet to spot any Plum Island whales. It seems that the Cub does fine in most scenery, but because of the heavy texture load, it sometimes bogs down a little in areas that have very detailed scenery - dropoffs have also been reported at some of the FTX payware airports. FYI also that adjustments to autogen and scenery complexity and weather don't seem to help - the issues are between the Cub and the specific local scenery. Really not a problem because you can ride through those areas pretty quickly, and the complex textures and animations on the aircraft are a big part of what gives it its (rich) atmosphere. So absolutely worth it for me and right now I don't see myself flying much of anything else for a long time to come. But wanted to provide more detail since the question of frames had come up.AlanYeah, they have truly outdone themselves with this. September 8, 200916 yr I'm not really having any major frame rate problems but I am trying running with Texture Max Load at 2048 just to see what difference it makes. I am having occasional texture glitches though. During long flights I will suddenly see swathes of landscape in the middle distance momentarily disappear and be replaced by the generic blue 'FSX' texture you sometimes get just before a texture has finished loading. It only lasts a few seconds but it's still a worry. It doesn't happen with any other addon.

September 9, 200916 yr Commercial Member I certainly don't see any difference from 4096 to 2048, in looks or performance.Your not going to because non of the texture files have any mipmaps so FSX is forced to load what it has that being the full 4096x4096 texture & thats why you see no difference ;)if they did have mips and your TML was set to 2048 fsx would take the first mip or set to 1024 it would take the secondThis was something we came across while making the Ozx Goose HD redux, myself i choose to use 2 levels of mips below my main 4096 just because i cant stand the shimmering/stair stepping non mip'ed schemes give at zoom outLatersGizmo http://shadeforfsx.blogspot.com/
September 9, 200916 yr After seeing this Cub in action I can't wait to get my hands on the F-4 when it's done.http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic....=62&t=18425 Jeremy "rightseater" Fletcher
