October 17, 200916 yr I think most on Avsim would pay $150 easily for a quality sim.But that's the hard-core crowd.Your typical punter down at Walmart won't be shelling out $150, and that's probably 95 percent of all FS buyers right there. The Standard/Professional (or Deluxe) concept was pretty good for the FS series. I would have liked it if there was an even bigger quality (and price) difference - by throwing in some truly high quality planes and scenery into the Pro version, they could sell it for $100 - $150, while pricing the Standard version like a regular game. $150 might sound like a lot, but even without hardware upgrades, many hardcore simmers probably spent that kind of money within the first couple of months of buying a new version of FS, just to get all the latest addons or upgrading existing once for compatibility. -
October 17, 200916 yr If the ex Aces team can throw together a really awesome successor to FSX, would you pay $150 for it?. I guess that I would. Reminds me of Flight Unlimited. That was pretty cool if you liked KSFO. To bad I can't fly around there with FSX so I hang out at KMSO and PAJN.jjaNo - not even if it were 3 times better than Microsoft's version - which I doubt it will be. Gerry Howard
October 18, 200916 yr I'm always amazed when simmers will spend thousands of dollars on hardware for simming, then get upset with shelling out 50 or 100 bucks for software to run on it.That's like buying a Mercedes or Cadillac, then refusing to put gas in the tank because it's too expensive!Alex Reid

October 19, 200916 yr Would you pay $12.99 per month to fly a sim? (current price for World of Warcraft)
October 19, 200916 yr Would you pay $12.99 per month to fly a sim? (current price for World of Warcraft)No. The whole idea of a monthly payments turns me off of anything. I'd much rather pay a greater amount and actually own a copy I could use whenever, where ever, then pay less, monthly. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |
October 19, 200916 yr Lets just ask the real question here........... how much are you willing to sell out for. Once the masses start asking these types of questions .. the insanity starts , really . I mean you havn't even seen the sims (on your computer I mean, not some screenshots or some video, I mean real world proven IT WORKS proof.ie. your willing to reward without meritYour stating here your willing to pay whatever price .. in hopes that some flight sim will be is as real as it gets. You want as real as it gets? Go down to your local GA airport, buy a lesson if you don't have a license, get in - and fly the real world.Of course developers say , right see how much real world cost. so we have the right to charge some arbitrary set amount for getting you as virtually close to that as possible. When in fact No SIM has. As real as it gets just means this is the best man can acheive with present day economics. Not present day technology. But what we can afford to do and still put several dollars in the pockets of the Bosses. investors , wash it white in whichever way you will.Thats the bottom line.If and when the next devolper puts out a sim to rival MSFS FSX or X Plane and it's loaded with problems... I ain't buying it.Proven working software delivered...... then we can talk price, untill that is delivered . what your ultimatly doing is telling a team of develpershow deeply they can stick their hands into a simmers pocket.btw I'm an electrician, without me you play nothing. Now , :( I've seen many put theirs hands on the parts and make something work.but when the stuff starts misbehaving because they really don't KNOW what their doing, they call me to fix it properly. If the building is still standing.Maybe those of us that provide the power, should start asking rediculous questions like this. how much are you willing to payto see at night or live in comfortable temperature or develop the next computer game... so we can wizz the excess away on cars and boats whatever.....Get realI absolutly do not mean for this to be a rant, but a wake up call . think people think.
October 20, 200916 yr I wouldn't mind if the sim was excellent, not many bugs, be able to program plugins for it in many languages (Python, perl, whatever) and work for both Windows, *nix and OSX, but it would also have to include some really detailed aircraft (at least one, come on, $150), that's onpar to PMDG. Xplane comes to mind, but the lack of professional content is my major concern. For FSX I have PMDG, ASA, REX and many other excellent addon stuff that offset the bad parts of FSX and make xplane look really bland, and I would expect a new flight simulator to be even worse than Xplane content wise unless it had the support of the professional addon community.
October 20, 200916 yr Airboatr has some good points, but most of us on this forum have at least 500 dollar sims if you count every addon. Hardware? Let's just say I could probably triple my fleet of remote control planes if I never had gone the simming route... but then again, one of my sims is for remote control planes and that probably saved me plenty of money LOL.The sad thing about my hardware costs are that if you couldn't fly or play chess on a computer; I would *not* own one.Donald
October 20, 200916 yr Would you pay $12.99 per month to fly a sim? (current price for World of Warcraft)With FS being a hobby for my, that would take away some of the ownership qualities of simming. Of course, I know that I don't "own" the software but I still feel as if it is my sim. Also, considering the amount of money you need to spend on hardware, I couldn't imagine upgrading to play a game on a website. What is the website closes shop? Where am I at then?I would really rather them have a general consumer version for $50 and a professional version for $100+ MSFS Premium Deluxe Edition; Windows 11 Pro, I9-9900k; Asus Maximus XI Hero; Asus TUF RTX3080TI; 32GB G.Skill Ripjaw DDR4 3600; 2X Samsung 1TB 970EVO; NZXT Kraken X63; Seasonic Prime PX-1000, LG 48" C1 Series OLED, Honeycomb Yoke & TQ, CH Rudder Pedals, Logitech G13 Gamepad
October 21, 200916 yr My willingness to pay (and I would of course) is contingent on "reviews" and "hands on" reports. These are expected and I read them before buying anything. I don't buy blind, as one forum thread suggests. We are educated simmers for the most part, and $150 in the world of hobbies is not that expensive for us. If you're a simmer who's 12 years old or somewhere around there, I understand your consternation (see below).con⋅ster⋅na⋅tion /ˌkɒnstərˈneɪʃən/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [kon-ster-ney-shuhn] Show IPA Use consternation in a Sentence
October 21, 200916 yr Would you pay $12.99 per month to fly a sim? (current price for World of Warcraft)If FSX were priced that way I'd be up to ~$470.00 to date...and counting! No thanks! I stay away form those monthly fee schemes. I would, however, pay a onetime fee of $150.00 or more.
