Massive scenery Arizona

Hi guys, for those of you interested, here is some shots of Arizona, Phoenix in particular, specially for Tim Fuchs!!As you can see, quality is pretty good, although you do notice the lack of resolution at lower levels over urban areas. out in the scenery it does not really show. One of the shots also shows some of tile colour differences you will come across sometimes, but it does not really detract at all from the overall experience.Gonna try a state with less desert in next time! its beautiful, but i am keen to see how more rural areas look.2009-10-29_18-37-42-178.jpg2009-10-29_19-19-55-2%38%30.jpg2009-10-29_19-24-16-91.jpg2009-10-29_19-28-55-216.jpg2009-10-29_19-41-3-168.jpgHope you all enjoyed those, has anyone else purchased? Be interested to hear your thoughts....Cheers, Mark

Hey Tim, no problem ! I just fired up Tile Proxy for comparison and The Sim savvy stuff is a lot lighter than the Tile proxy images, but again, it depends on the source imagary. i guess they are all "Correct", as they are all photos taken in real life. Just season and time of day vary, so you get different results. It sure beats the standard FSX scenery hands down...

I ordered it yesterday, so I haven't tried it yet. What I saw of Colorado and New Mexico looked really good to me.Are you running it directly from the usb harddrive? If so are you experiencing any slow down or stutters? Thanks

Wow!!!! Stunning!!!! Where can I purchase this?Thank You!!****EDIT**** Sorry Mark,I just discovered your other thread with all the info,Thanks very much for that,Cheers!!!!!!

They all look good to me except for the last shot showing KPHX. I have the MegaScenery Phoenix disk installed and while the coverage area isn't as big, the city part of Phoenix looks a lot better plus has night textures. I would imagine that you could probably put MegaScenery Phoenix on a layer above that photoscenery that way you get the best of both worlds.

After seeing the photos and having lived near Phoenix, it almost made me think that Arizona was left out of FSX. We just need a true form KPHX.

Hi , I think the way to approach using the scenery is to layer any better resolution / quality above it, then underneath, everywhere else instead of generic FSX stuff you will have accurate looking scenery. There will be some abrupt colour changes at state borders I have noticed, as all the source images are collected at different times and by different methods by the various state bodies, so impossible to match. As I stated before, the emphasis is on quantity rather than super accurate coulur matching etc, and for daytime VFR flying, I think it is really good. If you want nightlights and water effects, just turn it off. Its a question of tradeoffs for what is important to you. I guess it wont suit everyone. I have not noticed any stutters or slowdown using the supplied harddrive as the repository for the textures. I think that the resolution is good compromise allowing great performance on most typical machines. I guess your mileage will vary according to how you have it set up and your .cfg settings etc. Cheers, Mark

I agree. Everyone always seems to think pure desert with Arizona, as if it's washed out and dry, even in the city. We have plenty of green, and the higher in elevation you go, the more it turns to forest. Plus, I personally think most of it looks more grey in the mountain ranges.Search for views on Airliners.net or other sites and you'll see what I mean. Much darker, plenty of green trees/bushes and lots of buildings.

Hey Mark, I was unaware until this evening there was a trial area of their scenery available on the site. Pretty nice indeed.Early morning hours at KGCN.kgcn.jpg

hi,I installed the seattle demo. Wow it is gorgeous!!! Zero negative impact on FPS (Maybe better than default textures) .Very tempting. I assume that once you have the hard disk you can copy the files in your FSX HD to improve the load time. Can anybody confirm? Thanks.

I dont think you would need too, the Lacie drive is pretty quick and USB2, so it works pretty good. I run it straight off the supplied drive on mine and its cool.

Still waiting for someone to get the actual terrain color in southern Arizona right... Arizona does not have widespread Sahara-style light tan terrain like in that last screenshot of Phoenix. I don't know why so many sceneries of it (including the FSX default textures themselves) have that light tan color. I think people just know it's a "desert" and think that must mean sand. Southern Arizona is a different kind of desert that actually features quite a lot of plant coverage and the rocks/soil are actually a much more reddish brown color. These photos demonstrate what it actually looks like: (the second photo is probably taken at the apex of the summer monsoon season, hence the really green look, but I'd say it's much closer to this than to that "sand desert" look, even in the dry parts of the year) *EDIT* These photos were removed due to a copyright violation complaint.

Not to thread hijack, but it may be worth noting that MegaScenery Earth has also just released their Arizona package as well. With some night lighting and possibly higher resolution, it may be worth some attention. Editing to add:I didn't realize the Sim Saavy product was most of the western USA. The Megascenery Earth package is obviously just Arizona. Sorry about that!-Greg
