BUT - and I need to say that again!BUT what has absolutely gobsmacked me is the new sense of depth perception these textures give. I made no changes at all to sim settings, haven't added any Mesh or Landclass, am not currently using UTX and have no useless tweaks in the FSX .cfg. So it can only be down to the artistry. Normally, using NON-widescreen settings I zoom out a couple of clicks to get the panoramic view and sense of `sky, everywhere` that FS on a desktop cannot replicate, but I now find that the non-zoom view gives a much greater sense of distance and three-dimensionalityIt's to do with the convergence lines in the actual texture artwork - brilliantly clever work aligning these without making it obvious and not something that was ever mentioned nor evident in static screenshots, but it is absolutely a reason to buy this product by itself, never mind your feelings about the textures. The sense of movement over a landscape is now visceral, tangible and, frankly, compulsive!
I wasn't going to say anything about this but since you picked up on it, I will commentYes, the textures were made to do a lot of 3D illusion work for the system so the user does not need to zoom and play with image screen settings.. we were even able to accomplish things such as very bright snow in high elevations where it almost seems like you need sunglasses if it catches you at the right angle and time of day. The elements that do that work are hidden in the textures The sim rendering engine is a dinosaur but there are things that can be done to take advantage of what it will offer and what we implanted in those textures will. Some people may need to let their eyes adjust to the visuals at first because the process is something different for FSX textures .. but once that happens the immersion of the scene starts to come together... sort of like getting accustom to a view-master for the first time. They are 1m textures and therefore as with any 1m texture their optimal minimal view elevation is still 2500-3000+ft but what we added to them gives the textures a little kick so the pilot continues to get the immersion factor starting from, or, descending to the runway

Thinking about it - anyone know if you can pay for this with a UK debit card (Maestro) rather than a credit card?

It would have to have the Visa logo on it... if not, just use PayPal...

Thanks,

:( (private joke for Nick)And although Nick said, "The wow factor is usually missing in the dead of the winter season..", I think he is being a bit modest with that statement. That may be correct as compared to the rest of the GEX Europe "WOW" factor, but I've been playing around with GEX Europe in Germany using winter snow textures, and there is a very subtle, yet incredible result. In gently rolling hills geographical locations, with the sun at the right angle, you can distinctly see the differences in lighting effects on the snow textures. The 3D effect is quite outstanding, and any real-world pilot who has flown over snowy terrain with gently rolling hills will notice it immediately. The sides of the hills facing the sun will have a very subtle "glow" to them, almost a white-golden hue, while the other side of the rolling terrain away from the direct sunlight will be whiter. The effect also happens on the level terrain in front of the hillside facing the sun...the "flatland" will be white, while the hillside will have the "glow". The 3D effect produced by this is very real-world...I've seen it many times while flying in the real-world. Rick

I was referring to winter 'without' snow. 'Dead' meaning the remnants of the vegetation after the first freezes have set in but the snow has not come along as of yet The snow is one of our special featuresOf course southern EU is different in the winter and we made sure that displayed as it should.as for the description of sunglasses in the high country,.. LOL I used that because I keep hearing the same thing and I said it to myself when I was working on the effect.. The way it was described to me by Anthony during production when he first experienced it was that he felt like reaching for his sunglasses in the high Alps. Then I hear it again from someone else. It seems to be catchy :(

Aha! OK, sorry 'bout that. After growing up in Michigan, then being stationed places while in the Air Force where the snow was taller than some of the buildings I worked in, to me the "dead of winter" is when there is only white as far as you can see in all directions. :( That's why I live in Vegas now. You don't have to shovel rain and smog. :(

Wow, this is awesome I got my wish for this weekend. I was also hoping that FS Genesis would release their Greenland mesh for FSX this weekend and lone behold they did. I am now preparing for departure to Europe from CYVR. Looks like it will be awhile till I spot the new textures. I will have to fly over the transformed mountains of Greenland first. O, life is tough. :(

you will be seeing those textures a lot sooner than anticipatedThey change/upgrade a very good portion of the mountain terrain in North America as well as the snow in Greenland/Iceland, etc :(

Amazing beautiful stuff-(especially on my new 'puter)-thanks for making Europe come alive!

Indeed: wow. Just wow. The 3D effect is indeed very good, and I really enkoyed flying my PMDG 747 at FL240, staring down at realistic meadows. I haven't taken a look yet at the Netherlands, but I will soon.

Another delighted (European) customer - has to be the best cash I've spent on FSX to date!It feels like FS 10.5 !!Thanks for all your hard work guys. :(

If i purchase SDD drive, would it be able to make texture loading and also help rectifying blurry terrain textures ?

Hijacking the thread, are you?A SSD drive will make texture loading a lot faster. Blurry textures are most often caused by to high display settings on to slow hardware. Advice on setting up your system and FSX here: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041A lot of posts available here on avsim regarding problems with blurry textures. Do a search of the forums.Hope you get your problems with blurry textures solved.
