Great call on both the power supply and the size of the card!! allmost got in trobule! My power supply is only 400 watts and 16 amps and from what I read it needs 18 amps. my computer will not hold the 260 as i only have 1 PCI slot and the card requires 2. thanks agine for all the help, I guess I need to post my problem on the hardware forum and see if anybody can suggest a newer video card that will fit in only one PCI slot.as always thanks for all the help!!

That "Aerosoft guy" is Mathijs Kok, and, although he's a very nice chap and a great friend, I'm afraid he's definitely wrong on that one. My GTX 285 beats my GTX 280 which beats my 9800 GTX which beats my 8800 which beats my 7950. In each case the difference is noticeable. If your Processor can't cut it, it may not be noticable. A core i7 processor with decent speed memory will show up the differences quite well, RegardsPete
Yeah I agree. Although I don't know him personally and don't know if he's a nice chap, sometimes the remarks he makes about hardware are pretty questionable. He has made some pretty bold claims about the performance he gets with what he calles his "low end" computer getting some specatular frame rates in complex airports and sceneries. The only thing I can think is that, a. he must have most everything turned down or b. it must look really bad.

The 260 only requires one slot, but takes up two spaces. My 260 covers the little TV pci slot next to the pci-e slot that the card is in. You will need a bit better power supply. All worth it.Bob

i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.

Thats good News! I must of misread the info on the 260. I just need to shift a card down and it should go in, and of course get a bigger power supply. Thanks!

A 9600GT or 9800GT will also do the job and cost you less...Make sure it is a 512MB card though.

+1 He is wrong on that one and I can't figure out where he would get such an idea. Nothing I have come across with FSX and hardware would suggest that is even remotely accurate.

The 9800GT will work out better, after relooking at my pci slot, I will not be able to shift any cards down to make room for the 260, that and the fact that the specs on the 9800GT says it only needs a 400 watt power supply (thats what I have) and of course the cost!

Also, I don't know if you've realized the subtle distinction between PCI and PCIe. They are worlds apart - you'll need a PCIe MOBO for a PCIe graphics card.

Geoffa; you are missing something major and I am surprised no one noticed. The number that matters with Nvidia based cards is the second. 8800 is better than 9400.I can't explain it well; but they mass produce a bunch of cards and the ones that have all their "pipe-lines" functioning have an "8" as the second number. Any card with a "4" as the second number has much less functioning pipelines. Thus the "8" for a second number matters *much* more than a "9" for the first or the amount of total video memory.Donald

Bob-funny you should mention that.I just upgraded my computer from a dual processor to a :http://www.live.intelus.webcollage.net/server/costco/intelus-showcase/standalone?wccgsite=costco' target="_blank">Intel

my friends now I am so confused!!so you are saying I should get a NVIDIA 8800 for better frame rates rather then a 9800gt.

How do I know what my actual frame rates are when flying? I keep reading about folks saying there frame rates going up or down by X amount, is it on the screen somewhere and I'm just missing it? Right now I have a GeForce 8500 GT video card and am thinking about upgrading to a BFG GeForce GT 220 because of stuttering problems at bigger airports, especially at night, (Miami, ATL. Etc.)Would the stuttering be due to my frame rates dropping and would a faster video card help? I have my frame rates set to unlimited, but I do not see a difference between say 20, 40 or unlimited. I also have UTX USA, with intersection night lights turned on (other night lights turned off) and Vech. traffic at 15% Thanks for any help!
Use this in your FSX.cfg - showing averageframerate - Backup FSX.CFG before futz'n with it, and you can always recreate it by deleting it and allowing FSX to recreate it when starting up.[TextInfo.X] <<<-----whichever window you want to put it inFrameRate=1,1AverageFrameRate=1,2LockedFrameRate=1,3 Don't forget to renumer the lines.
It seems like this is the Bug that Aerosoft guy talked about over at fsBreak. There
