Is the Level D 767 FSX add-on any good

Featured Replies

hello,I might be buying the PMDG MD-11 but i might instead get the Level-D 767 add-on for FSX. But i can't decide which one to get. Just want to know is level d 767 realistic so that almost everything in the VC is clickable like in the PMDG aircraft and does the level d 767 have an effect in performance in frame rates in FSX. Only problem is i need to find somewhere i can buy it in the UK and i need to know if its any good.

Yes, everything in the 767 VC is click-able. No, the Leveld 767 has no effect on framrates! In fact, it is, and has been, the most stable plane I have ever owned. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either plane, they're both great products. The PMDG is newer, so the visuals are a much better.

The Level D is great. VC is a little dated graphically, the the systems detail is amazing. The bonus compared to PMDG stuff is the great support for hardware, so its a great aircraft to build a cockpit around.Add FS2Crew and Kai Tak and you will be simming heaven :( Steve

The VC can be improved visually with Andr

When you say the vc can be improved. In what way?? As it seems pretty good as it is.Tom

I'm afraid I don't have the MD-11 so can't really give a comparison. However, the "Level-D 767" is a prize IMHO. In fact, I have the early version of the CS157 which leaves some things to be desired, although the price was right for what I got. I have the Level-D 767 panel imported for the 757 as well for a dandy improvement.Considering the other PMDG contributions, I am sure that the MD-11 would make for a fine purchase as well.Good luck:RTH

The LDS-767 is one of the best addons around, but there is a impact on performance maybe just a little less than the PMDG 744. It's cockpit visuals are dated, ie: it's buttons and knobs on the overhead are not 3D. The other thing is you can't access the FMC through the VC you must pull up a 2D panel, easily done though by clicking on the FMC or button provided on the main cockpit. It's system integration is very good. Some buttons are not clickable, mostly on the main panel, the ones that aren't though aren't critical to flight. An alternative to the LDS-767 would be the Captain Sim 767. It's VC is totally clickable and functional, even to the point of when you lock the cockpit door, it actually is locked. It is all 3D and all functions including the FMC is accessible right from it. It's graphic detail is unmatched and typical Captain Sim quality. It's Navdata like the LDS and PMDG is updatable via Navigraph. It's system integration is a little less refined, but not too bad, with the latest version. All in all a very nice model. One thing if you plan to integrate system gauges and functions with external hardware , stick with the LDS which does provide the needed interfaces for that. Performance is about the same as the LDS also. One other nice featire, is it has an option via it's Ace utility to use Winglets and a flight deck only option. This increases performance a little (about 3 to 4 fps) by not rendering the passenger cabin or wings in the VC. It's only an option and you can turn it off at anytime.

Thanks

Sorry, couldn't resist...

I second all of TF51D's statements. He pretty much nailed everything positive about Level-D. Worth every penny, IMO.

I would say the MD-11 is better because it is simply newer. If the LDS 767 was up to the PMDG plane's level of graphics and usability (like an in-VC FMC, etc.), it would be every bit as good. However, I fly the 767 a lot more as it is a much more versatile plane. Both are incredible products that continue to be the best. You couldn't go wrong with either. Choose the one that fits your flying style best- long range and cargo vs mid-long range. If you are looking for a serious (and dependable) simulation, avoid the Captainsim 757 and 767.Alternately you could wait for the LDS 757. It looks like it will be the best of all worlds.
