REX 2 vs Flight Environment for FS9

Featured Replies

I have FE for fs9 that I bought from flight1 a good long time ago, I really like it, I think it is great but just wondered if it is worth it moving over to rex instead?thanksBS

Ciao!

I too own both.REX adds HD clouds and has a weather engine a la Active Sky (but no where near as robust).I also own AS6.5 so for me REX was just the HD clouds and the awesome runway and taxi line markings.

Briansommers: I asked this very same question about a month ago:<< http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=269254 >>I think I'm sticking with Flight Environment for now -- what I have is awesome -- but there is no doubt in my mind that I will eventually buy REX if only to give 'er a try. But no hurry for now.

I'm not very impressed with all the "HD" stuff. Flight Environment seems to me to be much more natural looking and have been very happy with it. My opinion only.Cheers

These are exactly my thoughts too!Yes, those HD clouds of REX look impressive, even spectacular, but they mostly do not look real or natural at all. They look as if they were painted.I have to admit though, that I can judge REX only by the screenshots I have seen, because I do not own the product..Wolfgang

I've lost track. I have all 4 programs: GE Pro, FE, REX and AS6.5. I have GE Pro, REX and AS6.5 on my newest computer. What part of the total "picture" of a sky does each of the programs comtribute to the total picture? Thanks jerrycwo4

I have all the above except REXso, GE Pro, gives you a new set of ground textures and aligns the autogen, etc as well as being able to change the color shading of the ground textures to go along with the weather. for example you have a cloudy day then ge pro can/will load in a more subdued lower contrast ground texture set.. (if you have it set up to do this)now FE/REX loads in a new cloud set and sky texturesand AS6.5 downloads and generates the weather..and controls fs on how it displays it, etc..this is the way i understand it.. I think maybe i"ll just stick with FE, since I'm afraid my pooter will give me stutters with high def clouds, since I fly all payware a/c and payware scenery/airports that I fly into..

Ciao!

Ironically, it was the introduction of REX a couple of months ago that got me to take a real good look at my Flight Environment . . . uh . . . flight environment . . . again. The more I studied the sky, clouds, sun, etc., during my high altitude flights I realized what a beautiful job Flight Environment had been doing for me all this time.Like I said, there's no doubt I'll buy REX sometime in the near future, but until I get a few other issues resolved I not frustrated that I have to wait.

I have REX, and love it to bits. It's great what it did for my water, sky and clouds. I don't have FE, so I won't be able to compare the two, but I love REX. I have it for FS9 and FSX, and in both it will always be the first thing I'll install.

I have REX along with GE, FE, and UT. I 'removed' REX after a couple of weeks because the inland water sucks. Everything else is great, but the green and brown inland waters colors are inappropriate, ie. REX colors ALL inland water green or brown and it's just not that way IRL.I'll keep following the forums to see if anyone has found a way to enjoy everything except inland water.Bob

HelloWhy not just deselect the water in the REX options?, seems a bit drastic to uninstall the whole program rather than just clearing a check box.

I've tried deselecting the inland water, but it makes no difference, I've also tried setting up REX again without doing anything the inland water themes, but the green and browns are still there.I'll keep experimenting because I like everything else.Bob

HelloDeselect them then you need to overwrite them with water textures of your choice. From that point on REX will only send the textures chosen in the options.REX sp1 fixed up an issue with the options not saving.

Thanks that helped. There are so many programs that do about the same thing it is easy to mix them all up. I have FE on the FS2004 set up on my old computer, but not on my new one.I'm still looking. Where can I find BROWN water displayed. I have REX 2004 installed. I have never seen BROWN water. I sure wish I could get the Red River in northern Louisiana to be BROWN instead of the BLUE it is now ! Thanks jerrycwo4

Jerry,Can't vouch for these (I don't have them installed) but you might want to try murky_water.zip here in the library.John
