MD11 Bugs

Okay, lets get some specifics on the LOWW events. Which STAR? Which IAP? Which transitions for both if applicable?By anychance does the IAF require a hold? Regardless, when you switch to HDG mode was the heading set just before or has it been preset and when was it preset.I'm gonna make a gentleman's wager here that there is a logical reason why it is doing what it does, let's see if we can find it.

Hi again, thx for spending your time on this.all you need for this flight is shown above:i copy it for you here again: LSGG - LOWW(SID: MOLUS 3A or MOLUS 3N) MOLUS UN871 KUDES T103 BEMKI UT23 GAPTO UN871 BADVI UL725 GAMLI (STAR: GAMLI4W)I fly this only at nighttime, so you can expect RWY 29 in Vienna, Transition LEVEL normally FL70 or 60FMC setup for approach, constraint at BALAD/FL80 as shown in the charts, clear the speed constraint at the GAMLI4W STAR at FL180

Hi Paul

What was the heading seleted before you changed it to 70?
a good pilot always tracks the heading bug to current heading, as well he is in NAV mode. So do i
When did you preselect the heading? Was there a white dotted arc already on the display, did it point left or right?
i tried different ways to prevent this "bug"if i turn in the left 070 before leaving NAV and pull the heading bug at 0,3DME before BALAD, it happens more often.the other way i tried to prevent this, was to push the heading bug when it is tracked to current heading (change to MCP mode before reaching the IAP) and turn in the 070 at the moment i cross BALAD und pull the heading bug again. But this also can't prevent the wrong turns in 100%.

Hi Paul...i will do one shot when it happens next time. ...
I suspect that now you are more aware of that white dotted arc, the 'bug' will happen far less often, but if I am wrong and you do capture a screen shot showing the aircraft truning away from the arc in HDG mode, I am sure the boys and girls at PMDG will be delighted to investigate it further. It might even give them the excuse they need to do a service pack.

I will chime in and say that the MD-11 is probably my favorite aircraft in my stable, and if I could only fly one aircraft in FSX, it would be that one, and I own a large amount of aircraft:PMDG 747PMDG MD-11PMDG JS-41Leonardo Maddog 2008FSLabs ConcordeXWilco 737 PICFeelThere E-JetsCS 727CS 757CS 767CS C-130I am looking forward to the final SP for the MD-11, and I am extremely grateful that PMDG produced this aircraft as there is just something about this bird that I love. When I was a little kid, tri-jets like the DC-10, L-1011, and 727 were my absolute favorite airliners. Even today, I get excited when I see MD-11's rocketing out of LAX, their rotation and climb is always impressive.

I'll admit that the MD-11 is my favourite too. Fantastic simulation, so good I have both versions.

Paul,if you believe me or not, this white dotted arc wasn't any new information for me. I wouldn't post here, if this bug is based on my handling. You didn't find any mistake in my depiction. My intension is not to blame developers, i want to prevent this 100%, and this isn't possible, when i fly under ATC conditions. I said this turns happens randomly.I did this flight yesterday once more and found another bug in MCDU accidentally. I was on my intercept turn, short before capturing ILS RWY 29 in Vienna. ATC gave me spontanly no clearance to capture ILS29 (he likes to stress me:-)) and instructed me a first heading of 285 and a new ILS11 to Capture due to ground conditions, i was in heading select mode, this gave me time to input new the RWY Info and i cleared then the discontinuity to the FAF as i do it most. At this time NAV Mode became active again without pushing the NAV button and aircraft turned direct to the IAF, but it should hold the preselected heading of 285, til i push NAV again. i fixed it manually, but the more you fly the aircraft under real conditions the more bugs you will detect. To fly complete automated star and transition, aren't real conditions, not even to test selected heading when coming out of NAV mode.

Again it is unfortunate that you were unable to capture a screen shot showing an issue, it really does make trouble shooting so much easier. Did you enter TO/GA mode when landing clearance was withdrawn or were you still flying semi-manually?

In this situation a screenshot wouldn't be very useful, so it wasn't unfortunate. There was nothing spectacular to investigate visual.

Where can I get a joystick for the price of a meal at Burger King? Here in the USA in my area for a basic joystick its about 4 to 5 times the price of a Burger King meal. I keep putting off getting a decent yoke setup because of the price (PFC or simkits). I keep putting off buying these PMDG releases because of the price. I love the quality of the simulation and would rather have PMDG charge the high price than get a junky simulation.William English

ebay? Two minutes found Microsoft sidewinders from $5 and LogiTech Etreme 3D from $15.

hi another problem/ bug i have found for the patch is the if u turn the APU on using the electrics panel then once the engines are running and to turn the APU off you should only need to turn off the bleed and it should turn off. Chris Finlay

Chris, works fine for me. There's no bug there, must be an error with your procedures. Maybe list all the button pressing in the order you do it and we'll be able to spot it?Cheers,Markus

What everyone has to remember us that MD produced the MD11 at the sane time as Boeing produced the 777 and airbus the a330. MD developed quite some problems with the design, and that's why only 200 were sold. The MD is one of the worlds most active freighters, and if Boeing had re designed the wings ad v stab maybe we would see allot more today. They are far from extinction. They will be around till about 2020.
