March 9, 201016 yr Hey guys, we cannot forget one thing here: - The MD-11 is way too much expensive! (I Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. Respice, lector: In nihil ab nihilo quam cito recidimus.
March 16, 201016 yr Yes, it may seem expensive. Excellent things always come at a price. Want an example? Buy an 8-port router, you can get one from EUR 40 upwards, even one from HP (24-port) is only EUR 150. Now buy an "excellent" 8-port one from Cisco, that costs you well over EUR 600! Almost 20 times as much as the cheap "toy" router! But again: Good things have their price, and PMDG is no exception.Regarding a joystick: It's a minimum equipment to flight simming. No joystick, no sim fun, it's that simple. Forget flying with the keyboard.Money is a tough thing and I understand some cannot afford the flight sim hobby. But hey, I myself cannot afford playing golf or go yachting, even if I wanted to. That's called life and the difference between wealthy people and the rest of us.AndreasI do understand what you mean, though I still think it could be a little cheaper.Anyway, I think its better to sell 5 planes at 50 bucks, than 1 at 120 ;) (I really think that the price has something to do with the MD-11 not being a big seller, as some said) Pehaps PMDG would even make a bigger profit if the 11 were a little cheaper. And, finally, I believe that people (including PMDG, which is a great company, Thumbs up) should do all the possible effort to make the best things (fine food, golf, yatches and sim planes included) reachable to the greates amout of people as possible. Of course I
March 16, 201016 yr Commercial Member This idea that is being repeated that the MD-11 was not a big seller is very misleading. What PMDG actually said, and what I think is being mis-quoted, is the MD-11 for FS9 was not profitable and that the FSX only JS41 out sold the FS9 version of MD11 by a big margin. The J41 has outsold the MD-11 period, both versions. March 16, 201016 yr Ryan, did you ever consider that the J41 is still a working aircraft but the MD-11 is almost extinct?Popular models are those that we can see being used in the air every day. The MD-11 IMO is the best sim PMDG ever did but it's demise is the cause of the lack of sales. Nothing more, nothing less. Dave Taylor
March 17, 201016 yr Ryan, did you ever consider that the J41 is still a working aircraft but the MD-11 is almost extinct?Eh, of the JS41 it was only built a 100 examples. Atleast the MD-11 was built in at least 200 examples :( Anyways, the MD-11 is far from extinct. It's one of the most popular freighters, even the DC-10 is still popular as a freighter. Fed-Ex upgraded theirs to MD-10s, a DC-10 with a "MD-11-like" two crew cockpit. That would be a nice add-on to the MD-11!On the other hand, too bad that the PMDG MD-11 didn't sell that well. It's the best add-on I ever bought for FS, and the only reason I bought it was to support PMDG in their quest. I almost missed out.I hope the development of the MD-11 will continue on the next platform... Maybe some interesting freight adventures could help to boost MD-11 sales? It's one of the few big aircrafts you realistically can fly on short routes in FS.BTW: I hope to see more exotic planes in the future by PMDG, the 777 interests me as much as where my back change name, and I'm not speaking about the neck. The BAC 146 or Avro is on the top of my wish list! ...in combination with the fantastic London City scenery by Aerosoft, and their upcoming Benelux sceneries! Mmmh....Best regards,Mikkel E.
March 17, 201016 yr Commercial Member You're kidding me right Dave? There's way more MD-11's in service with cargo airlines and with a few passenger airlines still like KLM than there are J41s in airline service. I watch FedEx and UPS ones land outside my window all day here in Phoenix. We did the J41 because Robert flew them for Atlantic Coast, we honestly didn't expect it to sell as well as it has.The MD-11 for whatever reason constantly gets put down by simmers who haven't tried it as some sort of "old" plane - maybe it's just the fact that it looks like DC-10, but it's still a very advanced aircraft and is in many ways more automated than even a 777 or an A330, it's main competitors in the market. March 17, 201016 yr If I may be a bit picky, but all three hydraulic systems are waaaaaay overserviced. Typically, the nominal quantities are 1/6.25 2/6.25 3/7.50 with both aux hyraulic pumps running and both RMPs open. I am an AMT who is around the MD11 daily, so I can verify that these quantities are correct. Allan Burek
March 17, 201016 yr The PMDG MD-11 is my favorite...The FMS is quick and easy to program compared to all the other brands...I just downloaded the cycle 1003 from Navdata and was wondering if there are any known issues with the MD-11 FMS in relationship with Navdata cycle 1003? I am hoping that PMDG WILL NOT forget the support of the FS9 version...I believe there are too many, and I might be wrong, that are still using the FS9 version due to hardware restraits...At least that's my personal problem until I can obtain that "big gaming machine in the sky."3rd how do you place your real name on this forum?Bob AdamsFDX183, Delta7725 Bob Adams
March 21, 201016 yr I just want to say that, even the J41 outsold the MD11, there's still people enjoying this fabulous plane and bought the documentation as well...And they want their issue solved, especially one I pointed out long time ago : the AT OR BELOW constraint being interpreted as a AT constraint by FMC, even it shows differently on the profile. My post should be somewhere into there with enough details and was reproducted by your team.So I still hope a day you will fix the small little issues there, on both FS9 and FSX.
March 22, 201016 yr For me, the PMDG MD-11 is one of the all time highlights in flight simulation. This plane is a real gem, I never expected to see one simulated, and now that we have one, it's more than a pity if the developers would really decide to just let it go.As a previous poster said, this masterpiece is pretty close to be bug free, so I think resolving the most ugly remaining bugs would elevate the product so that it could look down on almost all others. It's a shame that the MD-11 is disrespected by a majority of simmers. It's a completely different concept, and the FMS is almost incomparable to any other aircraft model. Instead of honoring the MD-11, people stick to Boeing and the close similarities among them - if you know a 757, you do a 767, and there's no problem understanding a 737 or a 777. But try this with your knowledge of such a Boeing, or maybe even an A320 series plane, and the MD-11. They're worlds apart.A pity... But I still don't give up the hope that PMDG mercily corrects the nastiest MD-11 bugs one day after having finished the 737...Andreas I quite agree. Even in real-life aircraft aren't bugfree. I've been flying in the virtual sky for quite some time now: remember FS for the Commodore 64 back in the eighties? In those days products like the MD-11 belonged to the realm of fantasy. I think PMDG is doing a very good job. The only real problems I encountered had to do with Windows Vista (yes, the dreaded OOM error).Jan Peter van Kempen i9-10900, RTX3080/10GB, FSX/P3Dv4.5
July 5, 201015 yr The issues I'd like to see fixed or adjusted if possible are the left and right cirles turnsHi Dan,can you discribe this bug to mee, pls.I searched the web twice, to find pilots on the MD-11, who have the same annoying bug as i have.Maybe you are one of them? The Autopilot sometimes can't differentiate between left and right headings, it flies a 360 turn to preselected heading! I never found in the manuals a feature with this issue, so it must be a bug. nonexcusable, when flying online at IVAO in controlled airspace. When i fly LSGG [Geneva] - LOWW [Vienna] in normally fly this route in controlled Airspace:(SID) MOLUS UN871 KUDES T103 BEMKI UT23 GAPTO UN871 BADVI UL725 GAMLI (STAR: GAMLI4W)ATC most give me clearance for GAMLI4W which is flown in NAV and profile and to expect Vectors after "BALAD" crossing at FL80. (like seen in the charts)some miles before reaching BALAD i get the command: "after BALAD turn left heading 070, descend 4000ft)now i have 2 options:a) preselect heading 070 and wait 'til i reach BALAD, i pull the heading bug normally 0.3DME before BALAD:( leave NAV mode short before BALAD pushing heading bug to the current heading of NAV Mode, and pull again

July 5, 201015 yr Third time is a charm...Systems manual Auto.10.13 (page 109) "The AP/FD captures the selected heading by turning the aircraft or commanding a bank in the direction the HDG/TRK select knob was turned"Systems manual, INST.30.8 (page 434) Section 18 "Selected Heading/Track Display""Selected heading or track is displayed as a solid white bowtie shaped bug. This bug is connected to the heading/track index with a dotted white arc indicating the direction of turn..."Hi Paul:-)sorry, i can't find any solution in this text. I wouldn't post here, if i am unable to differentiate between left and right. And it would be a pleasure if the dotted white arc indication in every situation does, what it indicates. If you do this flight exactly as i described it, you should have this bug in ~2 of 10 flights.
July 5, 201015 yr Paul, the aircraft will turn in the direction commanded. At least this was never identified as a bug in the period since beta and release. If you can set up a condition that reproduces this it would be most helpful. Dan Downs KCRP
July 5, 201015 yr Paul, the aircraft will turn in the direction commanded. At least this was never identified as a bug in the period since beta and release. If you can set up a condition that reproduces this it would be most helpful.Hi Dan,i purchased this aircraft some days after release, have more than 900h with the MD-11 on IVAO, and the above shown flight is one of those flights which reproduce the symptoms, when i am exactly over the Endpoint of the STAR and use selected headings. If i am some miles before or after the IAF all works as it should.Maybe there is a coherence, because the points are all entry-points for holdings and the aircraft preferes to turns in the direction the holding is defined. There are several STAR approaches in LOWW which produce the same symptoms for me. And i can't catch the problem in only one flight. It appears randomly. In 10 same situations you will perhaps have it ~2 times. And one time is one time too much.Developers should know what they have coded and give erros like that more attention, i think my input is precise enough, my part is flying this aircraft perfectly under ATC terms.
