Your favourite route under about 90 minutes?

Featured Replies

As I'm rarin' to try out my recently aquired knowledge of programming the FMC I thought it could be interesting to exchange favourite routes. The requirements: timing of about an hour and a half (or less) and a STAR available at the destination. My choice would be KLAS to KSFOCliff Harris

One of my favorites is Kansai to New Chitose (RJBB-RJCC), SIDs and STARs for both and I happen to have great scenery for both (FS9) and it is probably a little over an hour. With good scenery and terrain mesh, Japan is a great place to do relatively short flights in heavies (specifically, the JAL "J-Bird" MD-11... The sexiest MD-11 ever, in my biased opinion :( ) plus the realism factor is there as domestic heavy routes are commonplace in Japan. Another one I enjoy is Narita or Haneda to Naha, also good scenery availible but I dont think Naha has any STARs. Again, FS9 only. There is alot more great Japan scenery availible for FS9 than FSX, unfortunately.

Like the idea of this thread Cliff, KLAS to KSFO is a good one and have done it often. My main I use to tweak new settings and when showing someone my setup is mostly KBOS to KJFK. Unfortunately they don't have anything worth while for STARS, but the PATTS1 SID is one of the more realistic I think I've flown. You can fly that SID from 15R, or either of the 4 RWY's. Landing is often 31R or 13L @ KJFK, but with real weather on this time of year with the jet stream it seems to often be 31R which is a CATOD transition. Only thing is you'll want to change the alt for CATOD to 3000 and not A3000 the way it is in the FMC since it isn't accurate to the charts and when I leave it at A3000 the MD normally hits CATOD above 4k then has to do a death dive ;-)I've been meaning to find time to check out Dan Downs SIDSTARS since I know he does touch on KJFK from what I remember reading once. The normal navdata has didly on stars.I also do either KBOS or KJFK to KORD a lot since KORD has some nice STARS.I would like to see some stars and sids with real altitude restrictions. Something on my list of things to do right behind finding the time to check out Dan's work.

I'd never heard of the new FTX NW scenery till you mentioned it now. After viewing the stunning video on their site I'm impressed. Flights in that region should be a significant pleasure.Regards................Cliff

My favorite (non-FMS SID/STAR) is KDEN-KASE.Flying procedures then, I would have to pick KLAX-KLAS. You've got the LOOP DP, ocean, city, moutains and desert and Bolder Dam all in one short flight. Do it with FSDT KLAS and all that is missing is a good FSX KLAX scenery.

Yes, I like a quick EGKK to EGCC in the 747, with the UK2000 xtreme airports at either end, horizon vfr X in between, and REX providing the fluffy clouds, grand way to spend an hour.I`ve got a real world 744 LGW-MAN plan somewhere here I saved from when I did one last month if anyone wants the weights and routing details to fly it?cheersJon B
