FSX screenshots mostly GA?

Featured Replies

I was a hardcore FS9 user for a looong time and I was swearing up and down I would never switch to FSX and guess what, I'm all FSX now baby. I ran an overclocked i7 for a while with FS9 and decided to install FSX one day to see how it'd perform and never came back to FS9 despite all the money I've pumped into it in terms of add-ons and what not. Time to move on, it's as simple as that.I personally fly the airliners for the most of the time but as of recently I find myself exploring FSX' POI's more with a smaller birds, lots of fun! I'm actually getting ready to begin North American sightseeing tour in the Cessna, the only question is how long will I be able to do that for without getting in the airliner? Don't know, but really looking forward to it! :)

Why not just use FSX for your low and slow adventures and FS9 for your heavy airliner / traffic / airport trips?
Soooo, I just got the RealAir Duke (finally) and found myself spacin out, crusing along north carolina! I'm usually a mid-iron guy, but with the way ASE is looking, I'd fly a pink bike with wings around these clouds...Pic's to come...shortly :)P.S. - I've been out of the loop for awhile. Can I post a pic in this thread or do I have to take it to the SS forum?

398 HR MEL PPL and climbing!

This is definitely turning into an fs9 vs fsx thread whatever happened to the screenshots.
Well, seems like it's inevitable. Wasn't my intention though.

LMAO, that is too funny!Personally I like the GA shots. I am a long time member and used to check out some of the FS9 tubeliner shots, but seeing as I don't get into that type of flying, I tend to only view (and comment on) the GA images, especially if they are from FSX.

As I recently "tried" again to run the FSX on my new computer, but came again very short of decent performance, and no, I don't fly GA, I was only trying to understand is it maybe because of the performance too or is there something else behind it?
Word Not Allowed,Just a thought about FSX being "short on performance" for you...You have posted elsewhere that you run FSX similar to my settings with a LOD of 8.500000 that alone comes at a pretty high cost to performance.FSX at default is displaying 16X the detail of terrain than FS9 (FS9- 4.8m/pix or more with add-ons vs. FSX 1.16m/pix default); let alone other settings that FSX uses to push our hardware way beyond that of FS9. However I do understand the expectations of FSX performance vs. advances in hardware and how it can leave you disappointed, really strikes a nerve...Not too long ago I was building high dollar machines for a modestly sized client base that was focused on FSX, largely because of the super-High-res scenery I was involved in making (back in 06-08) and there was so much disappointment that my investments in this business including the huge cost for scenery data (almost 6 figure) for FSX resulted in me canning some rather large projects and refunding some partners at a rather large loss. This even after I had the ear of some Aces team members as well as some driver engineers at Nvidia that tried to lend a hand, all to no avail. I was bitter for the time and money spent as I had lost all perspective for what started out as just a hobby and left it for a while. Recently with my back blown out and some time on my hands I came to terms with it, It is what it is, and I have found ways to enjoy it now that the hardware is beginning to be able to run it at details that you, I and others appreciate....just keep those expectations in check I guess.Back to your topic:You also don't mention what other high IQ settings you are using like AI car traffic etc.I know that this is not what you want to discuss here in this thread so I'll leave it but I thought it worth pointing out. As far as Heavies go, I can

As far as Heavies go, I can’t get enough, I love this sim as tough to run as it is, and there are still great things yet to achieve... I am back to scenery compiling and putting some new hi-res data to good use, I just don’t have any false expectations and am keeping it in its place as far as how much time I allocate for it. Family first. :( BTW, I saw your PM and will respond to you shortly and as I mentioned elsewhere there are some rather interesting hardware settings yet to share when testing is complete.Paul
Hey Paul,Good luck with the back... As a guy that has a titanium L5-S1 and most of L4-5 removed I can certainly relate! Be careful though, the worst thing you can do is sit for long periods of time which is why when otto takes over on the long hauls I can head to the treadmill for twenty minutes and come back... No longer than a Pilot leaving the flight deck and being constipated :( :( I am not going to touch the FSX v FS9 posts other than to say as a die hard FS9 guy I think the FSX guys would be surprised to hear how much I LIKE about FSX... I love the sounds, I love the detailed ground textures, after seeing AESLite at EHAM and Gary's traffic at EGCC I do really enjoy having traffic under me on finals but the guys at Hifi have confirmed the air mass simulation is identical in both sims, I love the details of the jets in FSX but the rivets on the outside of the plane are far less important to me, only time I see it is with ActiveCamera doing a walk around and once you get above a certain altitude the detailed ground textures become far less important. So While I LOVE a lot of aspects of FSX, for my type of flying which is the PMDG MD-11, PMDG 747, LVL-D 767, PMDG 737, PIC ERJ and 737 and dare I say it but the PSS 777 and CS 757 (Continental's fleet with the exception of the 747 and MD-11 which are so darn good CO virtually flies them in my world B)) doing a GS of 500 kts into the largest hubs in the world with full AI FS9 is just perfect. When I have guests and want to go show people my house in FS or want them to see the wow factor of FS I go with FSX (until they want to see those heavies at a massive hub). When I want to cruise and appreciate the detail of a virtual FS world FSX reigns king but up at altitude FS9 is really a monster sim right now.So I think it would be great if the whole FS9 v FSX "debate" could be more about what we appreciate in both. Some like Red wine, Some like White wine... I like straight Vodka but that is another conversation altogether B) Cheers to FSX and FS9 and however people want to use them!-Paul

Well this is the type of performance I get with FSX on my E6850 @3.0Ghz (Not O/Ced) a 9800GTX VC and 4GB mem. I use complex aircraft such as the PMDG 744(8i), LDS 767, CS 757 and 767 etc.. Traffic is 100% WOAI or UT2, (which I just bought), Scenery in this video series is the UK2000 scenery Manchester (EGCC) and Cloud 9 Orlando (KMCO). Performance is good, and would be even better with a O/Ced I5 or I7. (Hopefully sometime in the future)

Thanks

I fly FSX only now after making the swap a bit over a year ago. When I first came to FSX all I flew where heavies, 767, MD-11, 747, MD-80's etc. But once more addons have started coming out with astonishing scenes added with much better weather programs for that over the top touch and I find myself flying more GA aircraft and enjoying what FSX had to offer between 2000-8000 feet. So I bounced back and forth between GA and iron for a while and then really nice GA aircraft started coming out from Realair, A2A and the likes and I haven't looked at a heavy in awhile. The closest I've been to a heavy is the J41 and the new Eaglesoft Citation X 2.In the last week or so I've been flying a lot of the CX2 but since PNW came out from ORBX I'm back in the A2A cub and the A2A P-47 with my jaw on the floor while finding these new little hilly dirt strips. Wonderful! My rig can't handle JFK at noon with 100% traffic but it is flyable at 15% traffic, this is the limitation of the hardware however not the sim. This same debate happened right after FS9 came out, people complaining because the sim was horrible performance wise. Give the hardware another year or so and you will more than likely be able to brute force the sim, unlike finesse it like we do now. Just my $.02 take it for what it's worth.

Succinctly said!Any reccomendations on a good Falcon 500-900 that might be as good as the CX2? I have to find one, Its what I get the privledge of flying >in (not a Pilot) while working but cant seem to find any real Good >FSX versions. Thanks,Paul

I am a Three Olives man myself although I do love the Goose and Chopin (same distributor but potato instead of grain)...In all seriousness, feel free to PM me anytime, I have been under the knife for 6 Major operations and about 15 minor procedures like Nerve Burns and injections. I have been working with some of the top Dr's in NYC for years now and was in physical Therapy with Christopher Reeves (Superman) for quite some time at Kessler Rehabilitation prior to his passing. I am always open to speak to someone contemplating the knife and help answer any questions at all... I think I was like number 300 in the country to do an anterior/posterior lt-cage fusion and spent close to 2 weeks in hospital so been there done that. And thank G-d for whichever FS you please when you have something like this in your life and you have something like FS to be your release or diversion from concentrating on your pain level from 1-10 all day and night!!!Best of luck!Paul

Hi Word Not Allowed. I mainly fly GA, and that's why I post GA screenshots. Never really been into the big iron. But recently am flying the Citation X - which has an FMS, and I'm learning it, and it's my "go-fast" plane. Otherwise I fly RealAir Duke, Carenado Arrow, Eaglesoft SR22, F1 Mustang, and the Lotus L39 for fun.. I have the LevelD 767 and the Super 80 md80 but I hardly ever touch those...Of course I fly FSX - FS9 is installed but the locations I choose to fly, like rural areas, are poorly depicted in FS9, even with GE Pro or UTX for FS9.

That's what happens when you live in the boonies Ryan. Do you still have dirt roads out by you or did they get around to paving yet I kid I kid... :( Hope you are well!-Paul
