NGX General Question

Featured Replies

I don't want to speculate, but was just wondering if there was any hard evidence that the NGX will include the BBJ? A nice NetJet's BBJ from PMDG would be awesome! :(

Beautiful photo, isn't it?Thanks.Larry Johnson

They said no BBJ. Too bad

Is the cockpit/model different on a BBJ as opposed to just a normal 737?I'm pretty sure you'll be able to paint a BBJ in whatever scheme you want once it and it's paintkit are released.Jeff Calder

The only difference in the cockpit (I guess) must be the fuel/tanks indication in the EICAS, as the BBJ has several adittional fuel tanks and, obviously, the fuel control panel in the overhead.

Boeing Business Jet.VIP versions of the 700 & 800 series with enhanced range. Some portion of the baggage holds is converted to fuel tanks. If I remember (airliners.net), the BBJ in that photo has flown nonstop from the US west coast to europe.Wow, 600 posts here already !!

There are roughly six variants of the Boeing Business Jet:The BBJ1, which is a 737-700 with some additional wing strengthening and the undercarriage parts from an 800 Series. The BBJ2, which is basically an 800 Series. The BBJ3, which is a 900ER Series. The BBJ-C, which is a convertible cargo variant based on the 737-700C.The C-40 Clipper, which is the US military version of the 737, being based on the 700 Series with 800 Series wings (i.e. like the BBJ1), and of these, there are C-40 A, B and C sub variants. The C-40A is a fleet logistics version for the US Navy and is a 'combi' variant, the C-40B is a USAF high priority transport and communications hack which can double as a CCC, and the C-40C is a national guard variant of the same, albeit with lesser communications and electronic stuff on board, but it does have switchable seating which can go from VIP to high capacity, depending on mission requirements. The E-737, is an AWACS version of the BBJ1, aimed at military outfits that either cannot or do not want to buy a 707 or 767 AWACS.Of all those versions and variants, you can spot most of them by the fact that they have some windows deleted (almost all of them in the case of the E-737). BBJs can have up to 12 fuel tanks (83,000lbs of fuel), giving them a range of well over 7,000 miles (i.e about 15 hours in the air) and of course the military versions can do that kind of thing regularly, since they are exempt from ETOPS and all that sort of restrictive stuff. With regard to PMDG making one, it would of course not be hard to combine the various 3D model bits to create a BBJ if one has already got the models for the entire normal range of 737s, and depending on how the windows are modeled, the changes may simply be a texture and alpha channel job. Most BBJs have a few extra antennas and other external gizmos, but these would be minor modeling tasks and largely optional anyway. The real work to make a BBJ variant would be the fuel system modeling and cockpit differences, since that does affect operation of the thing slightly. Oh, and with 83,000lbs of fuel on board, you might need a long runway too!Traditionally, PMDG has said it does not make military craft, so one might reasonably expect the BBJ to show up from PMDG, however, you might have to repaint it yourself to get a C-40 version and the E-737 would not be possible as a mod, since it has a vastly different cockpit and, like most AWACS craft, several large external radar housings as well as chaff and flare dispensers and airborne refueling receptacles.Incidentally, I agree with the posters above, that's a fabulous picture.Al

Good to learn from the ones who really know, Alan !!But, is it a long runway enough or have the BBJs overpowered engines ?.

Those custom interiors usually do not have a lot of seating, although the interiors themselves add weight, they are not flying with the payloads that the commercial carriers haul around.

I don't care about a BBJ interior, I would like to fly them though, even sans a virtual cabin. Ryan I must have been mistaken but I could have sworn somebody said no BBJ variant. Anyway good news! I hope you do all the versions including the military cargo

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the increased thrust from the engines on the BBJ. NG's climb like a bat out of hell to begin with :(

Have you read the recent Air and Space article about the companies in Germany doing the cabin retrofitting? The stuff they put in the cabin is insane!

Beds, plasma TV's, indoor swimming, golf/bowling entertainment structures, bars. Some people know how to fly.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.
