Bringing FSX To Its Knees

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,I thought the New York area was a tough area to fly into and out of with FSDreamteam's KJFK addon, boy was I wrong. A friend of mine has the same system I have (shown below) with one exception, he does not have Solid State Drives in his system.I went over to his home to view the new ORBX YBBN airport, I could not believe my eyes. First off the graphics are outstanding, however there is a M A J O R frame rate hit at this airport.Same settings used in FSDreamTeams KJFK and ORBX's YBBNResultsKJFK FPS=17 to 20YBBN FPS=3 to 9Orbx created an awesome looking airport but it brings his I7 to its knees begging for mercy.

Are you sure your friend's system is using the same settings as you? For example his water settings may be higher, or he has ground shadows active. Both are real frame killers! He may be using a higher AA and AF setting etc... Were you flying the same type of aircraft? (Complex vs non complex)

Thanks

Mike, that's too low for your system. Yes, YBBN is heavy on frames if you enable everything, but the peformance is IMO better than YMML.Did you try the settings per the Manual?

Hi,Both airports (KJFK & YBBN) were tested on "his" I7 computer, so it doesn't have anything to do with my settings and the difference in performance between both airports. The install that was performed for the YBBN airport was the default install, nothing was changed. For an I7 overclocked to 4.0GHz with 75% AI in an airliner, the airport is unflyable, its a 3 to 9 FPS slideshow.I'll have to go back over to my friends house and take a look at the manual, if they offer suggestions on settings I can try them and see what happens. Right now my friend is really disappointed with the performance. He thought it would be no problem for his I7.Let me run over there and see what I can do.

There definitely some settings are too high. I would never put ai traffic to 75% I would have it at least the most 50% like others have mentioned there must be some in game settings that need to be lowered and maybe even some video card settings that also need to be put down with something like in I7 it has to be better then that. I got not so good proformance with my Intel E6600 dual core think it was around 15fps jfk. but I did have to put down alot of sliders even sometimes not having autogen at all.

This is getting dumb. I run YBBN with an i7 920 and a ###### GTX 260 and I get easily 37-40 FPS in the real air Duke. Stop spreading this garbage, this company made sick scenery and runs just fine. People will read this and not by it because you people blasted it! If there a problem with YBBN go to the Support Forum and get help from ORBX...not on AVSIM. ORBX makes the best Scenery possible for FSX and it runs very very good, way way better then Aerosofts CDG or Milan or anything like that.I challenege anyone to go get it, you'll be stunned and it will run good on a decent system. I just hate to see all this bashing to ORBX. They work there asses off for us and please please dont compare FS Dream Team with these guys, FSDT are on the side lines watching the ORBX game, they dont even come close. Bye.

Lighten up Francis. He was just making an observation about how the scenery performed on his friend's computer. There was no bashing of Orbx going on.

Jordan,I appreciate that your machine really chews YBBN up and spits it out before breakfast, but like was said, it really is a huge scenery and does hit computers hard if everything is maxed out. I have it and get decent performance when I turn off most of the features, and am really careful of my ai settings. Since you are getting 37-40 FPS then I guess you have a much better and faster computer and video card than I do. What do you think? By the way, most people here are ORBX fans and a few of us, including Mike, the guy you yelled at, are ORBX scenery owners and are very experienced and knowledgable on making them run right. :( Stephen

It's nice scenery. It is definitely also very taxing on your system - the hardest FPS hit I've seen yet from any scenery. Even the with the default Trike I got barely flyable frame rates on my first load of the scenery (my system qualifies as "mid range" according to the documentation). There is a control panel that allows some options to be deselected, which helps some. Still, it's not an airport that I'd want to fly the PMDG 747-400 into - that will have to wait until the next hardware upgrade.

Hi realatp,WoW, guess someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Hope you don't get that bent out of shape while flying a real aircraft when a passenger makes a comment you disagree with, IF you are a real ATP. Spreading garbage, I don't think so.Hi mwilk,I love it "Lighten up Francis", I haven't seen that move (Stripes) in many years. Gave me a good laugh. Amazing, I cannot remember what I had for dinner two nights ago, but I can remember a line from a movie I've seen many years ago. :( Hi Everyone Else,Well, I just don't get it, something is going on. Without moving the view, even after waiting for FSX to settle down the FPS swings from 27 to 3 like clockwork, you can count the seconds between swings just like a pulse. This happens with all the complexity boxes checked or unchecked.

Sorry but your telling people not to bash orbx but then you yourself bash fsdt ?? I don't get it man?? saying that there not even close is to me at least in my opinion way off. I don't own anything from orbx yet since my current p.c is total garbage to run fsx now, since I lost my system with the Intel E6600 but to start bashing fsdreamteam is not cool I think both orbx and fsdt do a wonderful and beautiful job with there work.Mike its strange sometimes p.c can give you such a headache one day there working beautiful and the next there something dragging down performance and the hard part is that it can be any little thing from a malfunction usb port to overheating.

Mike,I happen to have and paid for YBBN and FSDs KJFK. Both airports run well on my system regardless of weather. With my system I'm yielding 20s and 30s, locked at 37 with boxes checked on YBBN.YBBN will cripple most systems if setting on its control panel are NOT reduced. This is expected from a revolutionary scenery. Just beautiful!

I assumed this groundbreaking texture streaming or what ever was supposed to make performance better, not bring systems to their knees still.

Mike, That's one of those classic lines that you can use to make a person pause when they're feeling a little too full of themselves.

Hi Cesar,The only one bashing anyone/anything within this topic is realATP. He accuses me of bashing Orbx, yet one of my statements about Orbx's YBBN was "First off the graphics are outstanding" here is another quote, "Orbx created an awesome looking airport ". realATP is the only one bashing a third party provider, in his rant he goes on to say " FSDT are on the side lines watching the ORBX game, they dont even come close". Amazing how some people read but fail to comprehend statements made on the forum, then jump to their own conclusion and bash other AVSIM members as well as third party (FSDreamTeam) providers. As far as I'm concerned, FSDreamTeam is one of the "TOP PROVIDERS" of FS9/FSX airports. Anyone who actually purchased any of their airports will be able to attest to the fact that they are top notch. Sorry realATP, you are wrong on so many levels.Well, I'll give it another go tomorrow. As of right now that pulse swing between 3 and 27 fps still exists. His system is setup like mine and he is using FPS Limiter, I've also tried without FPS Limiter, same fps swing problem.
