Bringing FSX To Its Knees

Featured Replies

I love it "Lighten up Francis", I haven't seen that move (Stripes) in many years. Gave me a good laugh. Amazing, I cannot remember what I had for dinner two nights ago, but I can remember a line from a movie I've seen many years ago. :(
One of my all time favorite movies. I probably have watched it beginning to end at least 50 times (yes, I was around when it was released). There are just some moves that I will always watch if they are on cable (particularly if they are uncut). Stripes, Casino, Idiocracy, Animal House...Anyway, back to the topic. I plan to purchase YBBN in a couple weeks. What kinds of things have to be dialed down? I fly with 100% ai traffic and lowering it is not on the table.

Wow! That is quite a framerate swing. I am surely way off on this, but for what it is worth, the only time I have seen such an impact is when some Antivirus programs unexpectly and automatically kick in with a scan. Then everything slows down, not just framerates.Keep us posted:RTH

This is getting dumb. I run YBBN with an i7 920 and a ###### GTX 260 and I get easily 37-40 FPS in the real air Duke. Stop spreading this garbage, this company made sick scenery and runs just fine. People will read this and not by it because you people blasted it! If there a problem with YBBN go to the Support Forum and get help from ORBX...not on AVSIM. ORBX makes the best Scenery possible for FSX and it runs very very good, way way better then Aerosofts CDG or Milan or anything like that.I challenege anyone to go get it, you'll be stunned and it will run good on a decent system. I just hate to see all this bashing to ORBX. They work there asses off for us and please please dont compare FS Dream Team with these guys, FSDT are on the side lines watching the ORBX game, they dont even come close. Bye.
Five messages in to a thread and you think this is getting dumb? I think your response fulfills that description pretty well. Using profanity and attacking another member here got my attention. Remember "one strike and you're out" in our terms of use? You just came real close to that one strike rule. Take a deep breath before you decide to post like that again.
Hi Everyone,I thought the New York area was a tough area to fly into and out of with FSDreamteam's KJFK addon, boy was I wrong. A friend of mine has the same system I have (shown below) with one exception, he does not have Solid State Drives in his system.I went over to his home to view the new ORBX YBBN airport, I could not believe my eyes. First off the graphics are outstanding, however there is a M A J O R frame rate hit at this airport.Same settings used in FSDreamTeams KJFK and ORBX's YBBNResultsKJFK FPS=17 to 20YBBN FPS=3 to 9Orbx created an awesome looking airport but it brings his I7 to its knees begging for mercy.
Mike, one thing that may be causing it is you anti alias setting. I say this because (and this was on my old system) when I first bought Fly Tampa's St Maarteen I had the same issue and the cause was the AA in use. Try different settings like in game or control it thru nhancer ect. May not be the problem but just a thought.Jim

Oh, I don't think he's bashing them. I often post on the FTX ORBX forums. The people there are completely open to...well, observations of their product. All this is done without any criticism of their stunning effort to produce a detailed visualisation of YBBN. It's just that we bought it and would like to run it. There is a number of hot topics, at present, about switching off certain aspects of YBBN, to make it reasonably usable.Jon
I assumed this groundbreaking texture streaming or what ever was supposed to make performance better, not bring systems to their knees still.
Y'know? I think you've hit the nail on the head. I've suspected this since installing YBBN. Just a little subconcious niggle but you spoke its name.Jon

Hi Jim,He has FSX setup as per Nick's instructions and runs nHancer. He was running nHancer at Combined 8xSQ, I lowered it to Supersampling 2x2 as well as Multisampling 8x and did not see a difference other than the fps swing grew. That pulse type swing looking in one direction even after FSX has settled down is still between 3 and 27+.I think I will try removing his fsx.cfg file and let FSX rebuild it and see what happens, maybe one of the tweaks he is using (that I installed) is causing the problem. Thanks

Tom,With the utmost respect intended, I could not agree with you more. But if any of the above things you say are true, then why is AVSIM still sticky-posting a post http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=281538 that contains the words:"...despite the Party Poopers that tried to (using stupid baseless technical explanations) to discredit me." Personal attacks against PEOPLE are ATTACKS, regardless of whether profanity is involved or not. It is total hypocrisy to condemn it in this thread and allow it in another.I don't give a rat's rear about any politics, design-stealing, addon developer competition, or whatever else "behind the scenes" may be going on at AVSIM. I am one of those so-called "Party Poopers" who questioned one of the "findings" related to in the above linked post, and now I am publically referred to as technically incompetant? And the poster is allowed to do that, with your support, in a STICKY post? I'm sure glad the DoD didn't think I was a Party Pooper or technically incompetant after my 25+ years of doing Classified Information Technology for my country. Are you proud of YOUR 4+ years of service as listed in YOUR signature? Did you learn things during that time that MAY make you a little more knowledgable in certain areas of discussion? Would you allow anyone to refer to your questioniong of something in a post as "Party Pooping" or YOU being technically incompetant in the subject matter? If my above observation results in ME getting banned by AVSIM for the "one strike" rule, then please delete my account also. It will be time for me to find a less hypocritical forum anyhow.Respectfully submitted,FalconAF

Falcon is right Tom....I also noticed a recent review by Proflig8torHow is it that commercial vendors are still forced to be identified yet a reviewer can go by a "handle" ? How is that even possible.Jim

Falcon-Perhaps it is because whoever made that a sticky missed the language you refer to. I haven't even looked at the thread.I will gladly go in and remove it if in fact it was uncalled for.Perhaps instead of speaking of avsim's lack of perfection you should get more involved in helping. With a staff of a handful of mod's who also have day jobs and actually a life besides simming we can't be on top of everything without some help from users. We also can't be all things to all people. We also have to take a position of fairness and try to see both sides, and as you mention a lot of back stabbing goes on behind the scenes. While you may not care about this-it goes on bigtime, is quite a bit in the daily discusions of the mods, and frankly is appalling. We try to take a fair middle road, and thus some will never be happy with our decisions, and those that are not happy with them can of course go elsewhere.

Hi Everyone,Maybe one of you can spot a problem (if there is one) with the FSX.cfg file, I've rebuilt it, added the tweaks gone through it line-by-line and still have the same 3fps-27fps swing problem.[PANELS]IMAGE_QUALITY=1QUICKTIPS=0PANEL_OPACITY=100PANEL_MASKING=1PANEL_STRETCHING=1UNITS_OF_MEASURE=0DEFAULT_VIEW=0[Weather]WindshieldPrecipitationEffects=1MinGustTime=10MaxGustTime=500MinGustRampSpeed=1MaxGustRampSpeed=200MinVarTime=5MaxVarTime=50MinVarRampSpeed=10MaxVarRampSpeed=75TurbulenceScale=1.000000WeatherServerAddress=fs2k.zone.comWeatherServerPort=80WeatherGraphDataInDialog=0AdjustForMagVarInDialog=1DynamicWeather=2DownloadWindsAloft=1DisableTurbulence=0CLOUD_DRAW_DISTANCE=3DETAILED_CLOUDS=1CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=10THERMAL_VISUALS=0[MAIN]ProcSpeed=15823PerfBucket=7User
