April 28, 201016 yr I've got all the Orbx scenery and to my mind they've set the bar very high. I'm looking to get scenery for the UK (how quickly default scenery become ghastly!) but I'm a little concerned that the same standards won't/can't be achieved. I've searched for opinions/reviews to no avail. What is, in your opinions, the definitive UK scenery? I'm looking at GenerationX VFR, it reads well but does it deliver?I know, I know, I didn't ask for gaurantees with Orbx but I didn't know any better then. :( The World is divided into two groups. April 29, 201016 yr Just Flight VFR Real Scenery for FSX. Excellent!FSX Sp2 Vista 32bitPeter Sydney Australia
April 29, 201016 yr You've basically got four choices for photorealistic low altitude stuff. These being Horizon or Just Flight (both available for FSX), or Horizon or Just Flight (both available for FS2002/FS2004, but able to be imported into FSX by installing them into FS9 and then copying over the folder to FSX). Of these, you can buy a single volume, or all of them as a bundle. The Just Flight stuff is in four volumes, the Horizon stuff is in three volumes. Of the two, the Horizon stuff is more sophisticated, but it is more expensive. You can read about the features of them at the links below.Horizon scenery: http://www.playhorizon.co.uk/store/index.p...ucts_id=1#AboutJust Flight scenery: http://www.justflight.com/product.asp?pid=365Note that neither of these cover Scotland, but this one does: http://www.playhorizon.co.uk/store/index.p...;products_id=36You can also get a lot of Scotland scenery from Scotflight, which can be found here: http://www.scotflightscenery.com/Products.htmFor the UK, there are a few other products from Just Flight, but the best airport stuff is probably from UK 2000, which make some excellent airport sceneries for many major UK locations. You can see the list of what they make and what they have planned for the future here: http://www.uk2000scenery.com/newsite/My_Ho...iles/Page1.htmlFor high altitude stuff, there is also FS Altitude, which can be found here: http://www.fsaltitude.com/we.htmHope that helps - Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
April 29, 201016 yr I don't personally have either of them. I have UT Europe, and photorealistic terrain for the UK, but I am considering getting some of that FS Altitude stuff, as having watched the videos of it, it does look pretty amazing, even if it is a bit pricey. The thing to bear in mind with FS Altitude though, is that is can be used in conjunction with other terrain scenery, since it takes advantage of the layering capabilities of FSX and gradually kicks in as you climb up to airliner cruise altitudes, therefore it does not blow out photrealistic terrain for the same area, but gradually supplants it as you climb, which sounds like it would be quite a cool effect.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
April 29, 201016 yr So I have Ultimate Terrain Europe and Ground Environment Europe, I can use FS Altitude with that?
April 29, 201016 yr Wouldn't swear to it, since i don't actually have it (yet), but the explanation of it on the FS Altitude site would seem to confirm that is how it would work.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
April 29, 201016 yr Earth simulations are slowly covering the channel isles with Orbx style scenery and the Scilly Isles off the UK. Also Isle of Man is going to be done at some point.http://earthsimulations.com/I would definitely look at the UK2000 airports, the Horizon VFR Photoscenery if you want to fly low and slow most of the time or get something like Ultimate Terrain Europe that has all the roads and coastlines, just not photo tiled ground, though also theres tileproxy as well which is free but will allow you to have photo scenery of the UK. Good thing about the UK is that there is excellent coverage of Photo scenery. Good thing about UT Europe is that it covers alot of Europe so you get more than just the Uk.Craig
April 29, 201016 yr Doorman,Horizon VFR Generation X Version 2 photographic scenery is what you want. Do not even consider using the Just Flight VFR Real Scenery. I have used both, and Horizon's product is infinitely superior. In addition, Gary Summons' VFR Airfields and Xtreme airports have been designed to blend perfectly with the Horizon scenery. GenX V2 includes superb water masks (you can see sand bars and other underwater features in shallow water), the terrain mesh resolution is 5 metres (twice that of VFR Real Scenery), and the colour contrast is far better (Just Flight's product is basically green, green, and more green; contrary to popular opinion, this is not a true representation of England and Wales).Like Craig has already stated, Earth Simulations are producing some cracking stuff at the moment. Alderney and The Isles of Scilly have already been released (and the detail is astonishing). Guernsey (plus Herm and Sark) is next on the list, and that will be followed by Jersey and The Isle of Man. Framerates are exceptionally good for such detailed scenery. April 29, 201016 yr and the best part about photoreal scenery in that part of the world, only 1 season to cover... RAIN! :) Looks amazing. I love the uk2000 airports but never flew much around the UK besides in and out of those airports with heavy metal, Maybe some day I will buy that pack and check it out in more detail
April 29, 201016 yr (Just Flight's product is basically green, green, and more green; contrary to popular opinion, this is not a true representation of England and Wales). That's the reason I didn't bother to reinstall it on my last FSX rebuild. The colours just didn't look natural at all. GEX does a much better job.A waste of 4 DVDs and a not so small pile of wonga :( - Dean P3Dv4 & XP11 space
April 29, 201016 yr and the best part about photoreal scenery in that part of the world, only 1 season to cover... RAIN! :( Sorry, but that's the Hollywood version of the UK - or 'England' as they'd put it...Did you know that the UK gets less rainfall than the USA? To Doorman, I'd also recommend the Horizon scenery - and Gary Summons' UK2000 airports. Brilliant stuff. Ian
April 29, 201016 yr Author Horizon has it then! Thanks for the input chaps. I'm now off to the shops The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
April 29, 201016 yr Doorman,The first two volumes of VFR Airfields by Gary Summons are already available, and the areas covered are the same as Volumes 1 and 2 of the Horizon photoscenery. When VFR Airfields Volume 3 is released (currently scheduled for August 1 this year), we will have complete coverage of England and Wales with beautifully detailed airfields and airports (232 of them to be precise) :( Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
