Nine Orbx Airports 50% in the Month of May

@coturnix, you have spammers to thank for those kind of extreme measures, I hate having to do things like that but it keeps me and our users sane :)I will not post the info here because I do not want to be accused of advertising :) :( :(
It's your revenue, but hiding a sale banner is a baffling marketing strategy. I have all the Australian regions and a couple of airports and did not see the banner on my last visit because I do not remain logged in. I would not have known had this thread not appreared. Plus your password requirement's exceed those of my online banking access. There are some very good anti spam tools available as an alternative. Bob..

50% off. That's insane! These airports are all worth their normal price. :( I highly recommend them all! The DVD of the entire Australia is a must have.Enjoy!
I don't know, I see them as potentially overpriced, FOR THE MARKET as a whole. In a down world economy, how many people are willing/able to cough up the kind of money for very small segments of the world, such as airports? Oh sure, the super enthusiasts in this forum, maybe. But that might be a smaller market. I was on the verge of buying the full DVD, until I began to realize there is only so much time in a day to fly, and one has to be choosy in this regard. It's just too much money to pay for the time I spend flying in Australia. I bought the Blue section, and use it on occasion--it's very well done of course. Not knowing anything personal about these airports, I really don't have much interest, especially for the cost involved. I may buy Aux Green, but that will be about it. Again, this is not about the quality of the product, but perhaps about the price point at which ORBX can make the most money. Perhaps they've done a better analysis, however this sale makes me wonder. Since I live in Nor Cal, I am very much in line for that purchase, when it comes along. The other stuff is just too much money for too small an area of the planet. I'd love to have Italy done with the quality of PNW or AUX. Airports--too much dough for very small areas. I'd buy my own local airport, maybe, for $15 or so, but it's a small airport.Noel

I'm sorry that you feel that way. I have all their airports and I paid the full price for almost all of them. When you consider the amount of work and detail put into these airports, the price is more than reasonable. When you also consider that only a small segment will legally buy these masterpieces, one can extrapolate that there's very little profit for the developers.I think at full price that it was a bargain. I received a "value" for my money. That value can be years of enjoyment.

The statement was just an opinion that ORBX may make more money by using a lower price point. There is no need to be sorry that I see it that way, as I am in no way in disagreement that some will find them more than reasonably priced, but potentially many others may decide against them, because of the higher price. Do you assume current pricing is always representative of the best possible strategy for profit, or perhaps you see ORBX primarily wishing to make art work and sell less copies, so their value stays high? I am only suggesting perhaps there is a better price point for ORBX as well as the greater simming community. I am not dissing their artwork. I own two pieces of it. I question if their price point will earn them the most income they arguably well deserve. And the current sale is some evidence that they would like to sell more copies, which also fits well with everything I have said.

Have to agree with Noel here. Having tried the demos for FTX Blue and PNW, I was very, very impressed, but the price is just a bit too high for me to buy. That goes double for the airports--I suspect there's a lot of dedicated simmers, myself included, who spend a lot of time on this hobby but are never, under any circumstances, going to spend more than $20 US on an airport, however beautifully crafted. I just don't have the disposable income to buy more than a few carefully chosen add-ons a year, and that means that add-ons that I'm not likely to get all that much time and enjoyment out of are only getting bought if they're below a certain price point. For people on a more limited budget, price is critical when it comes to any add-on other than planes (which are generally, though not always, good value given how much time you're going to spend in the cockpit). So, that said, sales like this make a HUGE difference for me. Suddenly I'm tempted to spend $20 AUS on Cessnock, having been there earlier this year, when I would never dream of spending more than twice that (the normal list price) on it. By the same token, if the Australian scenery DVD were to go on sale, even a relatively modest one, I would bite the bullet and buy. It's not that I don't think it's a brilliant product, it's that $150 US is a lot of money. It's practically my entire add-on budget for a year. And, unlike Noel, I have to admit I'm strongly affected by the psychology of the choice between one region for $50 and four for $150. Sadly for Orbx, the result is a (paradoxical and self-defeating, I know) decision not to buy at all.Orbx developers, please don't interpret any of this as anything other than what it is. You make amazing products that have clearly dramatically raised the bar for all MSFS developers. All I'm saying is that for me, the prices are simply a little too high for my budget. Clearly, there are a lot of people who see the clear value and for whom the price is not a serious obstacle, but I wonder, with Noel, about how many people there are just a bit to the other side of the price point.

Well, I too was affected by the special pricing on the full area DVD. But like you, $150 is a lot, especially to spend on an area I'm not emotionally attached to. I'm probably not unique in this regard--ie, folks will spend more on their areas of choice to fly in versus areas they are less interested in. I'm still contemplating AUX Green, which sounds lovely. If money was no concern, I'd buy the whole world in FTX were it available, which brings me to my next preposterous proposal: offer memberships, akin to what Justin did at FSGenesis. I'm not suggesting the exact same terms, but here's a cool consideration: I would bet, in the case of paying for a certain class of membership, entitling the buyer to purchase at substantial discount off the regular retail cost for ANY Orbx product, the member would be quite inclined to forget about the initial, lifetime outlay, and make plenty more purchases. What's more, if he does remember, the poor guy then feels the need to purchase more scenery, if only to justify the initial outlay. You gotta wonder! You have to be careful though, and not put titles on sale regularly so that there really is no advantage in purchasing memberships, if one it patient for the sale.Silver: $500 initial = 40% off retail on all future releasesGold: $750 initial = 60% off retailPlatinum: $1000 = 80% off retailInsane Platinum Ultimate: $1,250 gets you all future release free, for lifeIt could get ORBX some serious capital to keep the staff humming alone, no?! They probably need a few more titles before this could work. The sale on airports speaks the issue I'm thinking. The key is in what strategy will net the best gains for ORBX. Would you rather sell 500 copies at $50, or 5000 copies at $25? And then the word spreads, and before long, you have 100,000 copies at $19.95!Just food for thought, as I have no idea what numbers you would really be looking at.

I've been selling airports for a few years now, and I've never found the consumer's logic to be so simple. I've sold dramatically more copies of Twin Oaks at $35 a copy than I ever did of either Plum Island or Dillingham, which were half that price or less. Granted, the location plays a large role. Still, if price were the deciding factor, you'd think it would the other way around.

I think those addon airports are just specifically directed at all the Aussie simmers who love hopping around from airport to airport. I'm jealous really, there isn't that much coverage in most other parts of the world. I don't know Australia that well, but if I did, I'd have bought the entire set a long time ago. But I have the Blue region and eventually I'll reinstall it and buy a couple of airports in that region then go hopping around with the eventually released PMDG 737NG and maybe a flying doctors Pilatus PC-12

I wonder if part of it is the fact that, releasing it as an ORBX product in and ORBX region, customers know they'll get other high quality airports to pair Twin Oaks off with, not to mention lots of high quality scenery to explore. Of course, I'm speaking as someone who owns Plumb Island and Dillingham but not Twin Oaks (yet). :( Anyway, on topic, I'll probably pick up one or two airfields with this sale, so thanks guys!

I was thinking exactly the same, Newchucky.I have Plum Island, and whilst it's a delightful strip, I've never flown it after the first few times, since I'm not flying in that area (or if I am, it's not in GA).But since I've had PNW, I've hardly flown anywhere else, and the temptation to start or finish all my flights at another detailed airport has been high.I don't think the PNW addons are overpriced. Looking around at the airport prices at the usual websites, I'd say they were at the upper end of the scale - but from what I've seen of PNW, these are likely to be addons at the upper end of the scale, quality-wise, too.Personally, I've a
