Losing power at relatively low altitude

Featured Replies

Yup, the problem is definitely carb-icing.Lost power again coming out of a descent and hit the 'H' key and regained power instantly. As far as I'm aware (and I'm a noob), carb-icing shouldn't affect the Bonanza but there you go... no big problem to hit the 'H' key, I guess...G :(

Subtract 1" for every 1000 ft...approx 27" at sea level minus--- every thousand ft.
Just did a test flight, spot on and thanks for that tip. Actually now that I did a more controlled test the performance getting to and at altitude was great. I guess I just needed to really pay attention to what I was doing. Butch

As for the original problem, there must be a switch somewhere, either in the air file or the cfg, that tells the sim whether an engine is carbureted or not. Seems like this whole "H key" thing is preventable if we can find it. I'll dig around today and so some research.

Hi Bill, Is this what you meant? Its already set to injected, see below. [piston_engine]power_scalar=1.0cylinder_displacement=86.66 compression_ratio=8.5 number_of_cylinders=6 max_rated_rpm=2700max_rated_hp=285fuel_metering_type=0 <------------------------------------ Notes from the SDKInteger value indicating the fuel metering type, one of:0 = Fuel Injected1 = Gravity Carburetor,2 = Aerobatic Carburetor.

So, what should the value be for the Bonanza? What's the difference between Gravity and Aerobatic carburettor??

I think the point he was making is that the value should be (and is) 0 - for fuel-injected. Apparently there's something else going on that causes a fuel-injected engine to suffer carb icing, because this switch is set properly in the aircraft.cfg.

Aha! I understand now... thanks.

For what it is worth the air file shows it to be fuel injected also.Russ

My understanding is it is a bug in fsx. There are other aircraft that have the same problem.Just look at a carburator on a fuel injected engine as an extra feature! :(

An aerobatic carburettor still works when the aircraft is upside down - the gravity one will cut outGAry

Ah, hence the 'aerobatic' I guess...

I'm too having this problem.. I thought it was icing. So, I guess the problem was not solved (except for the H button option).
I've had this happen quite a few times. All I've had to do is open the alternate air and the power comes back. It's a pull knob on the lower right panel.

Same problem here - how can they have released this product with this noticeable problem???? Don't give me "its an fsx problem" as I have many other payware aircraft that don't have this problem. Pressing "H" kinda takes the realism out of flying it. Is there word that they are addressing it? Unbelievable...Mike

Hi I've gone to Caredano for this issue and they told me they could not re-create it. I'm very surprised how quiet this forum is - is it that not many have the aircraft or is nobody else is having this issue? I haven't flown her since...Mike
