July 14, 201015 yr Well they do make the best planes so just imagine how good they could be on their own coded software. Just a thought :)
July 14, 201015 yr Moderator Probably because it takes lots of $$$$$$$$$$ and lots of time. Just look at the posts over at Aerosoft where their skipper, Mr. Kok, has posted about the problems with developing a new sim and the cost/time involved with doing so. July 14, 201015 yr Microsoft did it because they had BILL GATES!!!! He has so much money, that is why they could fund it, but unfortunatly there is no more Developement groups in Microsoft for flight simulator. I think FSX is fine, and there will always be updates from other developement groups. It took over 2 years to create FSX which was only a big change from FS9, and that was an update of FS2002, and the process continues untill the first MSFS. It took decades just to get to this stage, even though FS was not MS' main focus. I'm not trying to say it's a stupid idea, I'm just saying it would bankrupt PMDG. I'm fine with FSX, and the PMDG aircraft. Thanks Alexander Brinson
July 14, 201015 yr Hasn't the NGX taken more than 2 years to make? PMDG definitely has the talent.I was actually just thinking this the other day. Imagine a PMDG sim. Wow! Blake Williams

July 14, 201015 yr LOL If we all buy the 50,000 LCF model extension they might :) I think producing a new FS is too much time and money. It would probably take PMDG more than a year to produce it since they really don't have a starting ground.
July 14, 201015 yr I also think y'all have no concept of just how BIG something like the sim is, it simulates a worldnot just the air, it has not only to worry about aerodynamics, but weather, and ATC, etc, etc...Not to mention the graphics of a whole world, think of how big a deal that is!!It takes many different kinds of experts, not to mention I would hope a new sim would beSMP/NUMA smart. It should have something like vatsim support built in so networking codewould be a factor...If you aren't a systems programmer you have no clue, I have been one for 20 years andit boggles my mind :) Not saying it shouldnt be done mind you, god I wish it were, but ifits not MS I'm not sure what entity would be able to do it... July 14, 201015 yr But even MS didn't make it all on their own. They used meshes and other world data from third party providers. So the world is ready, now it needs engine that will use all available resources of modern PCs :) Of course I know that all licences etc are extremely expensive, but MS FSX isn't cheap either and sells well.
July 14, 201015 yr Have a look at the Outerra planetary engine! Amazing visuals and very good FPS apparently! It's still in development though.http://outerra.com/ Matthew S
July 14, 201015 yr Wow, had not seen that Matthew, very cool, thanks.Yes, for a new sim you would want to leverage as much as you could. What I'd love to see is the shared world stuff just built in somehow. What I have in mind is a way to seamlessly have an AI kind of ATC that'sas good as, RC4, with voice recognition like VoxATC :) But when a humancontroller (VATSIM) is available it just becomes transparently available.Gone would be the choice between the big empty online world, vs one teaming with AI.The simulated world as a shared world, could host not only flight, butsay Railroad sim, shipping... Integrate some gaming and wow, thepossibilities..Hmmm, the more I talk about it the more I'd like to work on it :( Jack F. Vogel, Delta Virtual Airlines

It would become so second real life that it would be creepy and we would start to ask yourself serious questions about our universe... :(
July 15, 201015 yr 1C is currently working on something like this. Check out DCS.EDIT: Have a look at the Outerra planetary engine! Amazing visuals and very good FPS apparently! It's still in development though.Yeah, but can they keep that fps with PMDG airplane? ;)
