July 21, 201015 yr PAJN has a challenging approach on both runways. 08 has a curved approach somewhat like VHHX. FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
July 21, 201015 yr Moderator Did not see the show. Did they go though all 10 airports or just highlight one and mentioned the rest? And of course I gotta ask, how was the footage on Kai Tak?ClutchYeah they went thru all 10 airports. They spent more time on some than others, but overall the footage was pretty good. I though the Kai Tak footage was pretty good but there is probably better out there, although the show was 2 hours long, they probably did the best they could to squeeze in as much footage as possible.I think someone mentioned it will be on again on the 24th and 31st for those who missed it. July 21, 201015 yr I watched the 12AM showing and missed the first 2 airports, but was interesting in seeing the airports that I did see. Very well put together. While watching it, knowing how the History Channel repeats shows, I looked as some of you had and saw that it was on those 2 days also, but y'all left out times. Saturday the 24th, it will be on again at 10 PM and on the 31st, it will be on at 5PM. Now to set the DVD recorder to save it to a DVD. July 22, 201015 yr What a weird list that is... What about Sucre, in Bolivia? What about Cusco, in Peru? What about Toncontin, in Honduras? What about Innsbruck, in Austria? They have omitted some truly difficult/dangerous and hard-to-fly-into airports it seems. I think it's because they included GA and small airports as well as the majors. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d

Like what's been said here there's so many that were missed where as a whole 5 or 6 part series could be made of this pilot ('pilot' as in first episode of a TV series). The Alaskan airports I mentioned here you have conditions where most times of the year you have very low ceilings/low visibility, short runways, and steep/curved approaches navigateing visually around mountains (Fjords) to make the runway or dodge mountains as you depart from the airports. I guess it's a whole other show discussing Airliner flying in Alaska where when you take on weather and terrain up close and personal. Alaska all around from Bush to Heavies is some of the most extreme and fun flying one can experience the world over... July 22, 201015 yr Here's one Extreme Airport in Europe that they could have added to the list - Tivat LYTV (Montenegro). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tivat_AirportThis Airport offers one of the most difficult approaches in Europe. It is located among mountains and hills, in the middle part of Boka Kotorska bay. Landing at Tivat airport is a real challenge - it requires a highly trained and very professional crew. Due to mountainous terrain along the approach path, the airport is open only during daytime hours. These approaches are characteristic for Tivat airport:• LOC DME approach for runway 32 (localizer is offset by 20 degrees! due to the mountainous terrain)• NDB DME approach for runway 32• The most challenging and demanding approach is the circling NDB DME approach for runway 14!You should definitely try circling to land on runway 14 in the Project Tupolev Tu-154M! - Its one of the most challenging things you can do in FS9.There's a saying that if you can land at Tivat airport during fog, crosswind, or rain, then you can land anywhere and in any conditions. If you don't believe me, check out the charts for this airport. Here's some screens of what Tivat looks like in FS9 and when approaching Runway 14:Take-off position, Runway 14:Approach, Runway 14:Pilot's view:Charts, FS9 SRTM Mesh for the region (by Pietro Mauri) and a Tivat beta scenery are available from: http://www.scgvacc.net/?go=downloads
July 22, 201015 yr There is a wicked approach into an airport in Iceland at Isafjordur. Gotta hug the mountains and make a u-turn to get in. There is a 1000' ridge 5200' or so off the end of runway 26 and a 2100' ridgeline about 7800' off the end of 08 if draw a line straight out. I wonder what the winds are like in that fjord. July 23, 201015 yr Seeing the four lane hiway crossing the runway at Gibraltar reminds me of a some what similar situation at EDHI - where the final assembly of many of the Airbus aircraft is done. The expansion of the plant and the airport was difficult because an important road and a dike divide the old and the new airport area in two parts. For this reason aircrafts have to cross both the dike and the road when they use the new apron (Ramp 2) on the south-east side. The dike can be opened with a door of more than 80 meters long and the traffic on the road has to wait some minutes when stoplights are switched to red. All this is remarkably modeled in the file named edhi_40.zip by Frank Zimmermann - available in the library at Flightsim.com. You control the movement of the "dike" when you taxi a large aircraft near to it and the gates which protect it. The dike will move down into the ground and the gates will open so you can pass.Great fun.
July 23, 201015 yr ....All this is remarkably modeled in the file named edhi_40.zip by Frank Zimmermann - available in the library at Flightsim.com. You control the movement of the "dike" via your cockpit radio.Great fun.Hamburg Finkenwerder Airport EDHI - Airbus central. Its an interesting airport - you get to see Airbuses cross the road, got to be a funny and wired sight from the point of view of people in cars waiting at the red signals; and it has been done well by Frank Zimmermann for FS9.Airbus A300-600ST Beluga visits here regularly. Also the airport has special radar equipment, because aircrafts on final approach to Rwy 23 have to cross the river Elbe in very low altitude and there is a risk of collisions with bigger ships. That's why the final approach for 23 is controlled by special radar, which takes into consideration ship traffic too!

July 31, 201015 yr Not a bad show with one exception. Their interpretation of the PSA San Diego mid-air was amaturish and not even close. They seemed to blame in on a student pilot who was instrument training with a vision limiting device. No mention of the fact that it is illegal to do this without someone in the right seat keeping a look out. Also, no mention of the fact that ATC called out the traffic to the PSA 727 and the pilots called "traffic in sight", but subsequently lost sight after they became distracted. Third, the 727 overtook the Cessna from behind and it would have been nearly impossible for them to see the 727 flying up their tail. Poor writing and production on that incident.
