Hello,My wife and I are getting new phones this weekend. I have a 4 year old Treo 650 and I have not had a data package on it for a few years. I intend to have one on the new phone. My wife has a 4 year old pink Razr. She wants a "big girl phone" now that she has started a job as a attorney for the Federal Government.I want to sync email and calendar with Outlook 2003 (can do 2007 but would rather stick with 2003).She will do the same but she usually uses webmail (AT&T/Yahoo and Comcast). She can't sync with her government issued laptop. I'm going to try to get her over to Outlook but my guess is that she won't use it because her calendar will be on her work laptop.Apps are nice but we are more concerned with function rather than fashion. Also, we don't want to stick with AT&T (current provider) and we are not cool enough for IPhones;)What should we get?

I've used the iPhone for awhile now just got the iPhone4 too, and for the most part I like it. My wife has been using a Blackberry, and for the most part she likes that. However, I just picked up a new phone for moderating while I'm out and about, the DroidX, and it is by far my favorite phone to date. I'm sure you'll get a lot of opinions on this one, but my vote goes to the DroidX.

Anything with the Android operating system is nice. I have the Droid Eris and love it.

I have a Droid. I have three email acounts on it. I can't speak to Outlook because I don't use it. I do use the GPS, music player, and browser. The new versions should just keep getting better. Bob

i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.

I have two cans and a long string. That's about as high tech as I can handle.Seriously, I have a BB and recently I have had nothing but problems with it. In fact, IT has it now. For the second time in two or three months, it went into a fault mode that it couldn't get out of. Solution? Replace the operating system. Imagine being an owner without access to an IT department that can do that.

Personally I have a BB storm, and it's a brick. For my next phone I'll probably get an Android phone, the one that looks nice to me now is the DroidX, however I suspect they may have a better one in the works for around the time my contract expires. If you are willing to put up with AT&T, go for the iPhone. As for the 4G phones, until there is decent coverage, you're pretty much paying 10 dollars extra a month for something you can't use.In general: Apple has the best hardware (for the most part) and app selection right now, but you have to deal with AT&T and the problems that come with the new iPhone 4.Android works on the most devices and is the most spread between carriers, but lacks app selection and isn't quite as refined as the iPhone.Blackberry is decent for business, but nothing else really, and only if you get the right ones. Tom said that his BB is crap, and I have to echo that statement, mine is too.Palm was decent for a while, but just go with Android now.An interesting note, for those inclined, Android is actually a Linux kernel OS. It is a fork of the Linux kernel, and the source code is open sourced. You can get the source code and mess with it from the Android source page. Personally I have an iPod Touch 2G as well as my phone, and I carry both. In some instances, it may be better to carry both if you already have an iPod and just get the Android phone if you don't want to deal with AT&T.

Just wondering, how is the app selection for the DroidX compared to the iPhone anyway? Are there many good games on it, let alone reference, educational, and programming related apps. Finally, what's the price point on apps compared to iPhone?

I haven't even come remotely close to checking out all of the apps for my DroidX. Thus far I've got about 80 apps and 30 games, and I haven't even begun to scratch the surface. Most of the ones I have so far have been free, or lite versions. I've seen apps and games range from $0.99 up to the $30 range. Most of my favorite apps came included with the phone, such as the scanner and nav/map apps. The biggest difference between the DroidX and iPhone4 for me is that my Droid is very fluid, whereas my iPhone gives me some stuttering on occasion, especially when I'm scrolling through apps and internet pages. The apps open quicker for me as well. I am using Sprint's 4G service in Florida, which is lightyears beyond what I get from my AT&T service, and even a touch better than my wife's Verizon service. And one of the most notable differences for me is that my iPhone drops calls as fast as I can make them, whereas my DroidX hasn't dropped one yet.

Evo 4g user here (very much like the Droid X). The apps are wonderful, albeit a more limited selection. Most of my favorite apps are pilot's price--free. :( One of my favorite apps for a while was Google Skymap. Awesome. My favorite game is Trap, but there's some great 3d racing/combat sim games on the market. The Android Market is growing quickly and there are some great developers on there. One of my more recent apps-- Wyse Pocketcloud-- allows me to access my computer remotely. I know the Apple store offers this app, as many of the Iphone apps are being ported over (take X-plane, for instance).

Cool, thanks for the info, I was worried I was going to encounter a situation similar to what there is with the Blackberry, all the apps either too expensive for what they are (for example, the cheapest PDF reader for the blackberry is 10-15 bucks) or non-existent.

The PDF reader for Android is free. Just picked it up about an hour ago. Seems to work as advertised.

Sweet, that's good to hear. That will help a lot when trying to read up while out and about.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.Ok, the Droid seems nice but google searches do not reveal whether it syncs with outlook completly - I need email, contacts calendar, notes, tasks... Some post that are almost a year old say that you have to purchace additional software. I don't wnat to go through google calendar or gmail. They don't even mention DroidX and Droid Incredible. I am not even sure what those are like and the Verizon website is useless Overview of DroidX: http://www.droiddoes.com/#/droidx/featured/overview"Turns your eyes into captivated apertures of extacy. Its web-bursting speed turns your arms into blistering, churning pristons. Its power, intellegence and intuition. Its not a better phone. Its a better you."wtfI guess this means that with an IPhone, everyone will think you are better than them; with a Droid, you will think you are better than everyone? Thats all I need to know - sold (jk)As for Blackberrys, what are the models to get/avoid?One of the reasons I don't want AT&T is they limit you on your data. Verizon doesn't. New contracts limit you to 2GB and texting is an extra $15/mo per phone. It came out to $30 more per month for me and my wife. I have AT&T now and I have net been pleased with their service. Their bundle program is a bundle of crap.

As far as data is concerned, Sprint offers the more affordable packages. Verizon's network is bigger, but I've yet to have issues with Sprint. Even after my premium data package that offers 4G and unlimited data, it's cheaper than Verizon's unlimited data package. Just sayin'

If I'm not mistaken, I believe there is a sync app that lets you sync Outlook completely. I haven't tried it yet, but I'd be glad to pick it up and give it a shot to let you know. Haven't had a need because I don't use Outlook anymore.
