Vatsim Client Software

Featured Replies

With Squakbox and FSInn dead why wont a major software developer create some reliable Vatsim client software? I am so sick of SB4 "Assertion Errors" and FSInn is so sloppy I cant believe nobody has jumped in and made a commercial product that is simple, reliable, and just plane works. I for one would happily fork over some cash for it. Geeze talk about an opportunity, there is over 700 pilots on line right now!

VATSIM admins does not allow payware clients to be developed. Basically, they dont want anyone to profit from their efforts of creating and developing the network

I guess that explains it then, it's a pitty to have only two choices and neither being developed further.

I don't think that would completely prevent it from happening.I think as long as there was a freeware version with the minimum features they'd allow a payware developer to do an advanced more detailedversion of the client as payware.Sorta like how they allowed vRoute to be a payware app.Regards.Ernie.

Instead of crying for payware I'd like to see some support (could mean "donate") for those talented freeware guys - of course, this isn't possible any more. Must admit that FSInn Beta 1.3 runs fine here and if one of the two architects would still be developing, I'd have no problems to drop them some bucks regularly as doing on the also free AVSIM or e. g. the OZx forums.Actually, I'm glad that not everything in the flight sim world is dominated by payware companies and especially regarding a free online network, this also free software to access them is a fine attribute. So if I could amend your wish, I'd expand it towards "revive those two developers and their work or start a new freeware project". You won't become a millionaire with donations but maybe it suits your time spent a bit, hopefully.Maybe the development could come from within VATSIM. If you donate then, you'll get quicker clearance at all airports and more direct-to enroute :(

Blaze, what's your problem with the available VATSIM clients? I am using FSInn and I miss nothing. What's the issue?

There are many issues with the clients, for example no easy way to add 3d models for peer aircraft or the broken temperature when using FSInn with FSX.

LOL.gif Yeah, I've dreamed about such things."Tower, how much is that clearance to Honolulu?""Well, that speedbird guy donated 20 bucks.""Jeeezzzz"But I again admit: The current clients run fine. Don't know if the wish for the money makers to take over is the best imaginable one then.

Wanted to amend that the REX weather engine or Active Sky get around this FSInn weather bug. Both payware of course but some of you might already have them installed and both of them connect to the VATSIM data servers for weather if you like.

Actually, vRoute doesn't connect to VATSIM and thus is not restricted to freeware. Software that physcially runs connected to VATSIM can not be payware. Pilot client software is a perfect example of that.

Doesn't matter, both instances fall under the same regulation. The first version of vroute was freeware, When he produced a payware version (vroute premium) he had to get permission from the Vatsim BoG. He did indeed recieve such permission from Vatsim.I'm sure the reason Vatsim allowed it is because there was a freeware version that had the minimumfunctionality, so members were not actually paying to use Vatsim data, but to use the additionalpremium features.I believe were a pilot client to do the same with a free and a premium version it would have a goodchance of being approved by Vatsim.Regards.Ernie.

I am so sick of SB4 "Assertion Errors"
I've been using SB4 for the past 2 years without a SINGLE problem.. and I mean, not even a glitch. However, I use SB4 over the network from a LAPTOP via simconnect, I assume in your case you are running SB from within FSX correct? can you replicate the problem or is this a random thing? I'll be very interested in helping you solve the problem with SB4... I'm creating a set of tutorial videos for flying VATSIM and they all assume the user has SB4 installed (and working correctly) so whatever is happening to you could happen to other users as well. Can you elaborate on the Assertion errors? Thanks!

I run FSINN in FSX and with that program you can use whatever model set you want. I have a ton of WOAI airline sets that I use and my online Vatsim exeperience is so much better than sb4 due to more realistic models.

I use that too, but its not very practical. I ended up downloading over 40 packages of various airlines from Word of AI, and even then I end up seeing planes that are wrong all the time
