October 8, 201015 yr Hi,I'm trying to set up a manual ILS approach in the JS4100. I select the ils approach frequency but am not able to bring up the localizer or glideslope display in either the EHSI or the EADI. I've tried V/L in LNAV mode and switching to VOR1. I tried arming approach and hitting V/L, no joy. I've searched the subject in the manual and the forums but am still missing something. Basically I want to tune the localizer without the FMS.Can anyone help? Thanks,Doug Wilson Doug Wilson
October 8, 201015 yr You certainly don't need the FMS, and it doesn't tune the radio for you anyway. Verify the MSFS scenery is using the ILS freq you expect. All you should need to do is set the NAV1 to that freq, use VOR/LOC mode and be within range usually 20 nm. Dan Downs KCRP

October 9, 201015 yr Try setting the AP to APR mode and see if it picks up the ILS. I have to ask so please do not be offended: Are you positive that the ILS freq is set on Nav1 and Nav1 is Active? Neal Howard
October 10, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the responses. I tried all of the above. I saved the flight where I was having trouble and will keep working on it and see if I can duplicate the problem on another flight.Doug Doug Wilson
October 11, 201015 yr When loading a saved JS41 flight, make sure you load a simple default aircraft first. I use the trike. Do not use a pmdg aircraft as a default aircraft, always load or point to something simple first. Dan Downs KCRP
October 11, 201015 yr 1. make sure the tuned ILS-frequ is correct and valid (in doubt listen the morse-code)2. when in LNAV mode, hit V/L twice to switch to V/L manually. Hitting in only one time will not disable LNAV mode, it will just show you what the respective receiver is picking up atm. You can also pre-dial a certain course for a VOR for example, but a few second after the last input the view will change back to LNAV. Btw: No need to dial a course for an ILS-approach.. there is only one correct, and this one doesn't have to be dialed in. Regards. Matthias Hanel MilViz Beta Team
October 12, 201015 yr To have the ILS LOC and GS indications on the EAHSI, both NAV radios must be tuned to the ILS frequency. Oddly enough, only NAV1 (assuming you're flying with captain's side controls active) needs to be set to the correct course. However, both NAV1 and NAV2 need to have the ILS frequency active. I just encountered this the other day when I was wondering why I had lost the ILS indications while I was setting up the radios for a missed approach. Switched NAV2 from the VOR used on the missed approach procedures back to the ILS frequency and the indicators immediately showed up.Given PMDG's typically accuracy, I assume this is true to the real aircraft although I can't say that with any real authority. October 12, 201015 yr Sorry but thats completely wrong.1. Fact: You don't have to set any course for an ILS approach. 2. Fact: You don't have to tune both nav receivers.. NAV1 only will provide the full functionality, regardless of the frequ tuned on NAV2. Regards. Matthias Hanel MilViz Beta Team

October 12, 201015 yr This is what procedure says, but it's not a must, especially in sim world If You will not enter course it will be set automatically.
