<br />It can be the Frame rate limiter or ENBSeries mod... try renaming it to d3d9.dll.OLD so it gets disabled from the sim and try again.<br />
<br /><br /><br />Thanks again for the prompt reply.I have renamed the d3d9.dll file and things appear now to be back to how they were……..Hooray. I used one of my old cfg files which for some reason produced better graphic quality and depth??? Don’t know why. However changing the d3d9.ll seems to have sorted the excessive stuttering I had with the external view. Setting BufferPools to 2 million has also helped prevent the stuttering to a more tolerable level. Hi guys. Although I am not new to flight simming I am new to the inner workings of fsx and have generally left well alone as I am not confident enough to start altering files. However, recently I have become really curious about how I might improve the frame rates of FSX running the Level D 767. I have read loads of tips from various web sites, played with the sliders, and made minor adjustments to the fsx.CFG.txt file which I believe have marginally improved performance. Finding this Automated Tweaking and Tuning Tool seemed a dream come true but with my limited knowledge I am struggling to work out one or two things. As instructed, I took a copy of my fsx.CFG.txt file from my sim and uploaded it to "Bojote". I was amazed how quickly the response came, together with the listing of changes, so, I downloaded the "tweaked" version to try it on my system. It appears as though I got the fsx.cfg file back (not a .txt file), so I am a bit confused now. Do I replace my current fsx.cfg file with the tweaked one and will the system generate a new .txt file based upon the newly installed fsx.cfg file. If so do I have to delete my current .txt file first before replacing my current fsx.cfg file ? ie what is the procedure for "installing" the tweaked file. Many Thanks.

FSX does not use and will not be reading a file called "fsx.cfg.txt". The configuration file is FSX.cfg. If you have a .txt fitetype appended to it it is because you have used a file editor which wrongly added that. FSX will not actually be reading it at all, but your original FSX.cfg instead.Always take care when editing such files to use some basic text editor (eg Notepad, not Wordpad), and always make doubly sure to save with exactly the same filename. Best to make a safety copy of the original first, just in case you make a mistake.RegardsPete

Thanks very much Pete. It seems that the improvements I thought I saw must have been down to slider changes. I will now back-up the existing fsx.cfg file to a pen-drive and drop-in the tweaked file from *******. Due to my limited know-how I don't at this stage intend to make any manual changes to the fsx.cfg file. However, out of curiousity, I have previously tried to have a look inside the file but my system could not open it. I gather from what you are saying that I would have to change its file extension to open it whilst taking the precautions that you have outlined. Thanks once again.Steve.

Well, you can do that, but I've never had any trouble opening it with NotePad. Possibly it might have become associated with some other program, but you should be able to simply right-click on it and use "Open With ...", and then select NotePad.RegardsPete

im experiencing strange fps drops when i look at traffic , for example the boat at sitka in tongass fjord . the odd thing is i can quite reproduce it every time . it might be the unoptimized drivers of the 6970 or the eyefinity setup i run , but i didnt get the same drops with 5850 , also running the same eyefinity setup . anyone with eyefinity or any other idea on what i could do ?

Hello,This tweaking stuff seems interesting, although I must admit that I'm weary when dealing with tweaks because I have very limited experience working with my fsx.cfg file. I did just sent you guys my fsx.cfg just now and it had the all the tweaks applied to it, but just to make sure, my fsx.cfg was not changed, since i would have to download the tweaked fsx.cfg to apply the changes, right? I just wanted to experiment with the program, I don't want to make any changes with my fsx.cfg quite yet so that's why I want to make ABSOLUTELY SURE nothing was changed in my fsx.cfg that is on my computer. Also, I have a NVIDIA Geforce GTX 260M, which graphics card on the drop down list would be closest to representing that? Thanks,Joel

Hi Joel,When you upload the file to the site it only reads your fsx.cfg file on your computer. :( From that file and the options you selected, the script generates a new fsx.cfg for you. The new fsx.cfg file is made available to you via a download link that you can choose to click and get your tweeked fsx.cfg. Bojote's script kindly also makes a backup with a name change to same you the trouble (A very nice gesture.) :( You can still manually backup your fsx.cfg that is still on your PC before copying the new fsx.cfg to your FSX folder.Have fun :)

Oh ok, so I would have to upload the file and save that in my fsx folder before any changes take place, otherwise I will still have my original fsx.cfg file ;)Joel

Hey Again,You know maybe I never really understood what fsx.cfg was before, although I thought i did, but since people keep talking about the fsx.cfg on the computer and then copying it to the FSX folder I started to think that maybe the fsx.cfg is not affecting my FSX right now because i did a search in my fsx folder and I cannot find it in there...It is on my computer though. So what is exactly fsx.cfg anyways then? Maybe I'm wrong about this to. But, is it true that my FSX is not running that at the moment since its not in my FSX folder?Joel

if you are using xp then fsx.cfg is hereC:\Documents and Settings\( your user name )\Application Data\Microsoft\FSXif win 7 then it is hereC:\Users\( your user name )\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSXMine works smoother without affinitmask=14, use default 15Hope it helps

Hey all, another question....when I download the new fsx.cfg file with the changes the program put forth I put it in the %APPDATA%\Microsoft\FSX\ folder and take the old fsx.cfg out right? Now, when I do that, where is the best place to put the old fsx.cfg for a backup or in case the new fsx.cfg doesnt work as well? Sorry, I'm an extreme newbie at all this.Joel

Keep it in the same folder. If you can't see the folder in which FSX is located, you will need to change your view preferences in Windows Explorer. Just rename the file, don't move it. That way you can swap back easily just by changing the file names again.Cheers,Noel.
