Automated Tweaking and Tuning tool for FSX

For what it's worth I never see the problem with Transparency AA that ******* does - he was unable to replicate it with PMDG aircraft either. Seems to be specific to the LDS763 that he flies exclusively.
Thanks for that information, Ryan.I had these 10ft high stutters too (occasionally) and my Level D time is long ago, so maybe there is something else to trigger this small glitch on the beautiful transparency AA usage. I can't remember a special airplane or airport to have caused this but since I wasn't aware that those stutters might come from the AA, I didn't pay much attention on the actual circumstances.A thing to be tested some more.Do you have an idea what the trigger there could be? Is it some (scenery or aircraft) detail popping up at about 10ft before touchdown and somehow overloading the card when TAA is enabled? Moving Jetways, car traffic, I don't know.Currently, "enhance" instead of "override" (on the AA policy) seems to work fine but I couldn't gurantee if that's the fix on those occasional 10ft high stutters.I wouldn't want to miss transparency AA, even if my card was an older one though.

*******, you automated tweak utility really improved my FSX experience a lot. Thank you for that. However, there is one problem remaining, a problem I can't seem to fix: Sometimes, especially around cities, my sound starts to pop and crackle. This is somehow related to autogen density, but NOT to frame rates. I could easily fly with very dense regarding frames in most places, but even with dense I have these sound distortions around some places. My graphics card is a GTX285 with 2GB RAM, I am running Win7 64 Ultimate on an overclocked (2.83 to 3.42) system. All in all, I am very happy with the performance (except from the sound issue and the fact that everything above water at 2.x low is a no go). But this crackling and popping is driving me nuts. I made sure that it is NOT related to the internal sound card (tried it on a soundblaster and even on a high end external studio sound device).Do you (or anyone else) have a suggestion for me?

Do you (or anyone else) have a suggestion for me?
Download this:http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtmltell me if latency goes up when the sound starts to pop and crackle. If it does, it means you are oveloading your bus, too much data being pumped for your hardware -or- wrong BIOS setting somewhere, such as a PCI Express bus running at half speed.FSX uses DirectX (for video and sound) they both share the same pipe, autogen affects video directly (number of draw calls) when you increase this (autogen) and the bus gets overloaded sound 'packets' start to get dropped (discarded) so you experience the sound problems you describe.I suggesst you check NickN's configuration guide on how to properly tune your hardware. You problem is VERY common (a lot of people have it) and the last thing I would do is apply tweaks (that will stress your CPU/GPU) when there are other problems you need to take care of first.

*******, many thanks for the Tweak :( But i do got one problem: My fps is jumping up and down when approching an Airport like Frankfurt. It goes from around 30 to 9! This makes FSX going really slow and begins to stutter real bad. Any idea?
What kind of hardware do you have?
tell me if latency goes up when the sound starts to pop and crackle.
Like hell, up to 9000microseconds.There is not a lot I can do, really, my system is optimized with Nick's tips, it seems that I will have to turn down autogen to normal or less.

Hi all..I am another supporter of ******* FSX-innovations :) ...It was these tweaks that actually persuaded me to upgrade to i7...Everything is smooth (30fps externally locked..) but i am having blurries...But the funny thing is that i am having these blurries (the mountain in front gets some time to be unblurred) while the i7 is @ 20-25% usage and GPU around 30....I got passed the tweak tool again...Do i have to play with texturemax load etc?p.s. My pc config at the bottom...

Martin, you have an i7 930, yet, I do not see an affinity mask setting. The tool will automatically detect one for you *IF* you provide the correct information. For your CPU it should be: Hyperthreading enabled: YES Number of CPU's: 8 The affinity mask value suggested by tool under this scenario is 84. That, is the first thing to fix. (Upload your file to the FSX configurator again)Your CPU is newer and more efficient than mine, yet I'm able to overclock mine to 4.2 on air! and I have the OLDEST i7 920, I got mine the very first day i7 920's were released! with your CPU I'll probably reach 4.4 easily with HT disabled.. consider overclocking it.Your AI traffic (for your current CPU speed) is too high! reduce it or overclock your CPU.You are running 16bit color, FSX will run much better using 32-bit color, change it on the FSX resolution settings, look for the one that says 1024x768x32Autogen & Scenery complexity are set to Dense, yet you have a 2.8 CPU.. again, read what I said above.

*******,I've been playing around with FS for 17 years now. I have been following you and Nick religiously for quite a while as well. I considered myself better than most at tweaking. Because of this I honestly didn't think your tuning tool would help me. But I tried it anyway. I was humbled. Easily a 25% increase and no change in my smoothness (I was already perfectly smooth). I simply could not believe it and still don't know how or why. Thank you so much for all that you do. I am sure I speak for most of us when I say you, your talents and your dedication are truly unmatched and underappreciated. You are simply the best. Thank you so so much again and have a wonderful Christmas.David

Thanks! and Merry Christmas! I've added a section at the end of the page (tweaking tool) explaining what all the options do.

JesusI have run the settings through your tool.My setttings on aircraft in FSX wasaircraft shadows on ground -- not tickedAircraft shadow on itself. -- not tickedAircraft show landing light on runway -- tickedMy FSX before I ran it showed these entriesAC_SELF_SHADOW=0AIRCRAFT_REFLECTIONS=1AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=0I then ran your tool.it showedCongratulations! you have an optimal AffinityMask value!Congratulations! Your have an optimal RejectThreshold value!Congratulations! you already have HIGHMEMFIX set!You are running with frame rates set to unlimited, great! but MAKE SURE you use the 'external' frame rate limiter set to 'exactly' 30 FPS for optimal results. You can download it hereCongratulations! your TextureMaxLoad is set to an optimal value!Congratulations! You already have an optimal SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT value.Your have an optimal SmallPartRejectRadius value!Aircraft shadows removed for performance. Use Conservative to prevent this change.MAKE SURE to disable Transparency Anti-aliasing for improved smoothness with your NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 card. Now the way undersatand it you removed the aircraft shadows on itself. When I downloaded your FSX.cfg fileit show:AC_SELF_SHADOW=1AIRCRAFT_REFLECTIONS=1AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=0When I used it in FSX and I look at the settings in FSX then shadows on itself is ticked "ON"Now I dont understandThe message said it is set off but your tool put it ONCan you check for me .Here is my uploaded file.http://www.venetubo.com/fsx/00ccd0e9bef78b637ea1eb9c421ce7b0/backup/fsx_backup.cfg.

Now I dont understandThe message said it is set off but your tool put it ON
Don't worry, the settings set by the tool are fine. There is a very slight performance increase when you enable the AC_SELF_SHADOW option and leave AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS disable (0) the gain is marginal. about 2-3% so not really an issue, you'll probably won't even notice any gain in FPS.I have a baseline test that use to determine what settings affect performance. This test is not based on observation, but measurement using external tools while looping a situation (replay) over 4 times. I always discard the 'first' loop, and measure the 2nd, 3rd and 4th. If they ALL match and show any diff I then consider a setting to have an impact.I use FS Recorder (single frame record) and PerfMon.exe using a laptop over the network to make this measurements. The AC_SELF_SHADOW is one of those mistery settings that provide a slight gain whitout a clear explanation of why it is so.

*******,NOTE: This is repeat question from the other thread - Bojote Tweak CompilationThanks as always for your expertise. I want to confirm one thing that I read yesterday but can't be sure where. One FSX tester found that in windowed mode using the ForceWindowedVSync=1 approach with fps internal limiter set = UNLIMITED , that his fps with a 60hz monitor were 60,30,20,15 etc whereas in FullScreen mode with ForceFullScreenVSync=1 was more linear as he changed scenery settings or some other graphics load (again with UNLIMITED set). I seem to be having the same experience. Then when you want to limit the fps for smooth performance, I was able to use the external limiter with FullScreen but I actually got smoother performance with just the internal limiter in Windowed mode as long as I picked a fps limit just slightly bigger than the 60Hz multiple (60,30,20,15) that I could easily run at and less than the next higher value. Do this make sense to you? On a different issue, I wondered what Antialiasing setting (8X or 8XQ or whatever) and Anisotropic setting (8x or ?) we get when we let FSX enable them instead of doing it with Nvidia Control Panel (setting them to application controlled). I tried letting FSX set them and I did seem to get a little more performance as per your "dissertation on bufferpools" and other threads. Finally, I asked about using a nv 580 on a multiple monitor(windowed mode), three independent view, wide field-of-view setup (center at Zoom=.33, sides at .7), medium scenery settings and no traffic, as opposed to an Nvidia 470 which is giving me stutters at the greater field of view but not at default zoom=1.0 - if you ever get a chance to try that with your rig (don't actually need three monitors - just add the small New Views on a single monitor), I would really appreciate a test report (assuming you now have a 580 or overclocked 480 - maybe not yet?). I need to get 30 (or maybe even 37.5) fps with smooth performance at KLAX for example in windowed mode. Finally, for those using windowed mode, like me - if your monitor can be driven at a higher rep rate, maybe like 75hz or higher, you will be able to run with a higher frame rate (assuming that you are getting maybe 40-60 fps with Vsync off for testing) since the next integer divided value - 2 - becomes 37.5 Hz (then 25 after that of course)Thanks for all you do for us serious FSX glassy performance seekers!!Dave

Thanks, 100% then. Much appreciated. Will then leave your file as is from your tool.
