Automated Tweaking and Tuning tool for FSX

Featured Replies

Don't know why but I also get stutters with FPS Limiter. It's actually better for me to use unlimited without it but even better if I limit internally.. the only downside (as always with FS, there must be a downside if there's an "upside") I loose a lot of FPS doing that and flying in EHAM with PMDG is not fun at all.. if I set it to unlimited without limiter.. well, pretty reasonable performance. With limiter... bad stutters. It's probably something I'm not doing right.
Do you get "reasonable performance" in eham with the tweaks but no limiter or without them both ? Vic

No limiter for me as well. If I am flying a lite weight aircraft or God forbid a default aircraft you must lock the frames or it will get herky jerky on you. I agree with you the internal limiter is the smoothest of them all. Unlimited is best for heavy hitting payware aircraft. Reason being that when flying one (ie Level D or PMDG) you most likely would not see higher than 30 or so FPS since most of the flying we do in those are at larger airports with heavy scenery or heavy weather ect. All those elements then become the limiter so one is not needed. If you fly into smaller hubs however even with the big payware aircraft, and you are running a clocked i7 or such you would probably need to lock that down in those situations. BTW the ONLY tweek that has ever made any real difference for me is[bUFFERPOOLS]RejectThreshold=131072All the other tweeks around didnt really make anything worse or any better so I feel a cleaner CFG is best for me. I have tested the auto tweeker that ******* has created and I applaud his efforts greatly and I admire him for taking on such a project for us all to have. :( :( :( Jim

Hi *******, tried this last night and with my frames locked at 30 from within the sim, it seems really good. Dont know if its a placebo, as I have no measurable comparison but definitely feels smoother. Thanks ! One question, it added the shader 3 line to the .cfg file, but do I have to do anything else to use this mod? I have been watching the progress on this but not bothered to try yet, and see you have a beta auto installer. cheers, Mark

Hi Mark,The line simply tells FSX to 'allow' the use of version 3 shaders. However, if the 'effects' are compiled with Shader 2, then the line does nothing. The Shader 3 mod only makes sense if you have an ATI. with nVidia's there no performance improvement, and the quality improvements are only with water and distant terrain.

Hi Bojote,I've had an intermittent problem with getting a blue spiral and then a CTD. I'm not surewhat causes the spiral but I'm guessing it is the GPU as I don't think it is CPU or cfgrelated. I'm using your 'Normal' tweaker cfg with the external limiter set at 30 and it crashed at 32 FPS.Strange thing is it happened twice at about the same spot over sparse AG Orbx Australian scenery. GPU-Z shows the highest first GPU temperate as 65C and the second as 59.5C. Real Temp shows the maximum temperatures as 68C, 74C, 63C and 64C.Can you suggest a test to confirm what is causing this CTD?I really need your help!Regards, JackWindows 7 64 bit ULT | i7 920 OC'd 4.2 GHz | ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 | 6GB Corsair DDR3@1600EVGA GTX 480 | Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme | 2x 300GB WD VelociRaptor | WD Ext 500GB HDCorsair Modular 850W PS | Samsung 275T 27" Monitor | Plextor 24x DVD/CD Writer

Jack, you and I have the 'exact' same hardware. You should not be having any problems! anyway, you had this before the tweak? if you use a vanilla cfg, everything is normal? if that is the case I suggest your increase (at least double) RejectThreshold in the new config and see if makes a difference.

I tried the tool. Sim feels smooth but I get a couple of annoying "burps" every couple of minutes.I only flew for max 5 mins at a time so not sure if the system crashes on longer flights-Whenever i tried you other tweaks the sim would be smooth for a little while and then religiously crash every time... so not sure this is the case with the tool. specs i7 980x @4.27, gtx480, 6 gb 7-7-7-24what do you suggest ?ThanksVic
Can you increase de RejectThreshold value to 500000 and tell me if you see any diff?

Hi Bojote,FSX crashed at about the same place in the Orbx scenery using a plain vanilla cfg.Bad video card?Regards, JackWindows 7 64 bit ULT | i7 920 OC'd 4.2 GHz | ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 | 6GB Corsair DDR3@1600EVGA GTX 480 | Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme | 2x 300GB WD VelociRaptor | WD Ext 500GB HDCorsair Modular 850W PS | Samsung 275T 27" Monitor | Plextor 24x DVD/CD Writer

Yes.. I noticed a massive fps drop.. ( all the way down to 8s). tested at eham with pmdg 747.Vic

The AA talk in the beginning got me thinking... Am i using correct AA settings? In inspector, it says 2X2 SuperSampling + 2x MultiSampling. Then, i have transparency supersampling and multisampling disabled. Is this transparency AA what you are talking about, am i correct? :)

*******,Compliments on your professional effort. I read the previous posts regarding comment preservation & ordering. Just to add a bit more feedback for your consideration here.... I utilize a freeware tool called WinMerge for comparing line differences between two similar files. Please consider keeping the exact same order as the original, at least to the extent possible, to facilitate a quick comparison between the original and tuned results. Thanks!-Ed
In a way I agree - to the use of WinMerge but I suggest we standardize - sort the cfg file by section and content within section. Both the adjusted and the original. Easier to compare both manually and with Winmerge.Vic

Yes.. I agree. I have a list of enhancements that I will be implementing during the weekend. Sorting is one of them (makes reading and locating varaibles way much easier)Right now focus is on the actual recomendations, I've been reading all posts to see results people are getting. they are of course mixed. I need to focus my attention on those cases first. Thanks to all for providing feedback! P.D Vic, received your fsx.cfg. thanks, I'll be testing later tonight.

Thanks ******* - looking forward to your comments.Just FYI, with my cfg I get no stuttering, hesitation or blurries. The autogen pops in a bit and an occasional white flash when looking left or right quickly - cockpit or spot view but not actually a problem. I'd like to resolve the occasional white flash as textures load but if the option is to reduce settings - I'd have to look at the tradeoff as it's not a major issue.I run the ENB bloom mod - using 260.99 w/ Nick's settings in NV Inspector except that I run 16AA - probably could change that - not that big of a difference IMHO.Actually quite happy with my setup but always looking for that wee bit extra! :)Vic
