December 4, 201015 yr This release didn't seem to have the anticipation that PNW did(any youtube videos?). How is it guys? My home airport is KFCA(now KGPI) and it is covered by this download.! :) Scott KGPI
December 4, 201015 yr Author This release didn't seem to have the anticipation that PNW did(any youtube videos?). How is it guys? My home airport is KFCA(now KGPI) and it is covered by this download.! :)Well in some ways it is difficult to say. It really comes down to personal preference. It is a very huge area and I took a couple of flights in a Cessna and then one in a jet in order to test it out. The first flight around the area where I grew up was incredible. They seemed to get many of the details right. The shading of the semi desert area is really spectacular and there are little details that really help this to be an amazing scenery. For instance many of the pine trees in the Okanagan often die and what you have left is a spindly stick sticking out of the ground. I noticed these sporadically throughout and it is a very nice detail. Second the North East ridge that was burnt in a forest fire in 2003 is represented. The trees look spindly and lifeless just as they do in real life. The next flight I did was from CYLW to CYYC. This flight from up high was no less spectacular. The Rockies are truly splendid and the area around Calgary looks exactly how I remembered it. I have only begun to explore it. I think that part of the reason for the less than enthusiastic response may simply be that it does not cover such densely populated cities such as Seattle, Portland and Vancouver. I think that given the population of these three cities it will generate more interest. That makes sense. People who live in those areas will have a greater interest and those living outside in other areas of the world will have a greater interest in flying around the bigger centres. As I have already said I grew up in the Kelowna area and I live at the coast so I am really looking forward to a lot of hops from CYVR to CYYC, CYLW TO CYYC and many of the other airfields in the area. I hope this helps. If you are a bush flyer than this will really be worth your while. Just my opinion!EDIT: If you have an interest in exploring your home territory and your area is included in the coverage than I think you will not regret it. Mike Keigley
December 4, 201015 yr Agreed, for example I did a flight from Golden BC east through the Kicking Horse Pass and it was awesome. The textures they use alone clobber the default FSX and most of the airports got a revamp, not super detailed but much better than the default. For $40 you can't go wrong..... Al Stiff
December 4, 201015 yr Ugh.. the only thing wrong with NRM, is that it makes me want Pacific Fjords!!!
December 4, 201015 yr Author Ugh.. the only thing wrong with NRM, is that it makes me want Pacific Fjords!!!LOL! So true. In fact I have soooo many add-on that I would like to get but I simply can't shell out for all at once. I would love to have Ultimate Terrain's Alaska X to pair with Aerosoft's upcoming PANC. I know FTX have stated that they will go south and develop California but developing North up to Alaska would be amazing as well. Then there are the many Aerosoft airports in Europe that I would like to have. Can not have everything you want! Mike Keigley
December 4, 201015 yr Spectacular is the closest word I can think of, but essentially the impact of the ORBX Northern Rockies is unprecedented. These guys are redefining the world electronically. If you were ever thinking of buying any addon scenery whatsoever, this should be it. If you really love flight simulation do, whatever it takes to fly it. Kind regards,
December 5, 201015 yr Wow - FSX just keeps getting better and better!Without Seattle to impact performance (as in PNW), flying through this area is just heaven!Just took off in Calgary and followed the Trans Canada Highway west into the Rockies...What an improvement over FSX native scenery!! Bert
December 5, 201015 yr I can't wait to get this. Orbx should just make their own simulator. Forget Flight...
December 6, 201015 yr I think I am going to have to pop for this. I did my own scenery of the Columbia River from Spokane KGEG to Revelstoke CYRV and I really enjoy flying that route low and slow along the river. I suspect ORBX might have a few improvements over my efforts! Any pics of Castlegar for instance?scott s..
December 6, 201015 yr Hi guys,Anything special that is needed to make this work properly when you have other products such as UTX/GEX/FSGenesis installed? Scott KGPI
