Bill Lyon's New Water Textures

Featured Replies

I am in the same boat. Too bad we can't make living flying MSFS. ......... oh I guess it would be a job and not a hobby- kind of take the fun out of it. Thanks Bill!!! I am just wondering when Microsoft is going to hire Bill to be part of the Flight Sim team. I am sure he could do wonders for the Fligtsim and make a bunch too.

Thanks, Chris, good info.<<<>>>> I just knew it would be the bumpmaping. Oh yes. Sounds like something The Hobbit might do on a weekend.<<<>>Ah. So THAT is why I have to wind a handle on the side of my computer to advance to the next frame.OK, I give up. Even though my trusty GeForce 2 (two in there actually, for my three monitors) seems to give better window reflections than later GeForce 4 cards, that's about all it can do, I think. It'll look nice on the wall, maybe. So if anyone is installing a Radeon YEEAAAHHHHAAHHH 98000000 this week or whatever they're called, and is throwing out their old GeForce TI or something, gimme a shout please. Must be DX8 compliant and have at least one year's experience at bumpmaping. Any old iron? Any old iron? Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

Rule of thumb, as i've gathered from reading the readme.txt file included with the files (yes i do read them from time to time lol) - if the water texture slider can move all the way to the right (and should only be there for the water to show), it means GFX card is compliant and will work.If it jumps back down to middle again, its not compliant and thus should be dragged out on the street and shot at dawn.My god these textures are sweet looking :D

A friendly thanks for your link. The texture are SPLENDID!!!!!!David

Are they FS2002 compatible?

Hi,I've been busy and haven't gotten to try these yet. I was just wondering if someone with an ATI 9700 Pro vid card can let me know if these new textures work in full effect? Thanks,Jim

So real that I almost felt seasick when touching down on the water!!!Thanks a millionDave

"I was just wondering if someone with an ATI 9700 Pro vid card can let me know if these new textures work in full effect?"Yep, they look terrific. The bump mapping is cool. These new textures are much smaller than the stock FS9 files, so the performance hit is not nearly as bad.Sys:AMD 2400XP @ 2700ASUS A7N8X Deluxe1 Gb Corsair XMS 3200ATI 9700 Pro 2.4.96b

If there is only one thing that could be criticized is the size of those bumps (waves). Assuming that the aircraft is 4-6 thsnds feet above water surface you would never see waves that big unless it was a major stormy weather. They are too big by a factor of 4 at least.Michael J.
