FSBuild & Navigraph

Featured Replies

Hi,Well, it looks like FSBuild has finally joined the ranks of Navigraph. Looks like everyone will be able to get regular updates for FSBuild. The latest version 2.4.0.0 is available on FSBuilds website via the online forum.

Just out of curiosity who uses Navigraph? In the old days when it was freeware I used it on a regular basis but lost interest when it became payware. For me a bigger issue than having an up to date real world nav database is having a consistent nav database across FSX and my various addons. If navigraph provided a way to up date nav data consistently across FSX and all addons then I would see the point, but of course it can't. The FSX nav datbase is fixed in time as is the RXP database (unless updated by Garmin) and after that you have the various flight planning apps and individual aircraft FMS databases some of which use Navigraph and some don't.Bruceb

I actually just started using NavigraphTwo of my favorite bizjets use it:Citation XMustang C510Also, the LevelD767 and Super 80 pro use it (not currently installed though)It's basically 20 credits (1/5 of 10 euros) to download all the data for all the planes you own... PER CYCLE.It's not too expensive and I like it because I fly on vatsim often. If I didn't I see no reason to update the data.

Thanks for the heads up Mike, truly appreciated.

I use Navigraph.. for 10€ you can get 100 credits which can last quite some time for AIRAC updates.. not to mention all the charts. I like it and it's not too expensive.

Kudos to both Navigraph & FSBuild! This is great news and just made my life a whole lot easier.:(

Vroute premium is more than good enough for me. I also have FSCommander 9. I see no reason why I should use even one more flight planner.

Depends what you fly. FS Build calculates fuel to the nearsest 100th, usless if GA, but if your flying anything between a 35 pax turbo prop - 747 it works great. I will throw in the upper temps + wind, weight, calculates top of climb, decent + let's decide if you want to add a perfectige off error etc etc etc. One of the coolest thing is it prints off a navlog and you can fill it out while enroute just like the big guys!

FSBuild is really a great program. I have used it for many years and Ernie provides excellent support. I use to sources of routes to put into FSBuild, In the United States FlightAware has all the real time routes that the airlines are flying now. For routes around Europe, Asia, South America and Africa is use vroute. FSBuild using Active Sky, calculates the winds for my route and does an excellent job calulating my fuel burn. It then exports my flight plan to my LDS 767, Radar Contact and ASE. In addition it provides and excellent flight log with all the enroute waypoints and SIDs and STARs, that are now up to date with the addition Navigraph data.It is the only flight planner I will use IMHO is superior to anything else in the FS community.Bob

Agree with you 100% on that one.Not to mention it exports flight plans for FSCars, SquawkBox, Level-D, PMDG, etc. etc.

I use Vroute for flight planning and Topcat for fuel and weight calculations. I believe Topcat are releasing a flight planner in June this year, If it is as good as there topcat software it should be good. But another flight planner to add to the mix.

The only part of the overall nav database which is hard-coded into FSX are physical radio navaids such as VORs, NDBs, Marker Beacon transmitters and ILS systems associated with airport runways. Those are indeed representative of the navaids that existed at the time that FSX was released.Though VORs do occasionally change frequency or identifiers, that is not all that common in the real world. NDBs and marker beacons are increasingly being decomissioned, and if anything, there are far fewer of both today, than existed 4 years ago when FSX was released. In other words, there are many markers and NDBs in FSX which no longer exist in 2011.But, things such as airways, intersections, named RNAV waypoints, RNAV approaches, SIDS and STARS do change constantly, and these are items which are NOT hard-coded in the simulation, but which may be freely changed by installation of the Navigraph databases. If you want to fly using current real-world procedures, the Navigraph nav data is an absolute "must-have" IMO. I would disagree that the nav data is not consistent across FSX and from add-on to add-on. The service supports an incredible number of different FMS implementations for add-on aircraft by almost all major developers - as well as supporting several flight planners such as FSCommander, VRoute, and now, FSBuild. The specific monthly updates for each of these add-ons are all derived from the same master data source, and appear to be very consistent in my experience.Jim Barrett
