THIS changed FSX for me

Featured Replies

I didn't realise it was XML only. I don't recall anywhere in the docs where it states that. It refers to a PLN which I assumed was a standard FSX plan. I create them in FSC so I can export as XML.The routing was IFR, follow Airways. Aircraft was the iFly B738.One other small thing; Flight Numbers should be able to contain letters as well as numbers.

Thanks Dean,Yes, letters and numbers for the flight number, no problem...IF plans consider the flight level used by the plane (see Parameters: range, cruise alt, etc.) and so choose a different set of waypoints depending on high or low alt routes. If no waypoints found then IF check all types of wp for a route.FSX standard plans have only ever been XML, FSX just happens to accept the old FS9 ones. The brief for IF: Get your next route, run up FSX from IF, goto the planner, add your STAR and DP and points of interest en-route, save the plan, drop it back on IF, fly the route...Later I can build-in backward compatibility and cross-compatibility as required or becomes necesary.Steve

Steve,There is no other weather engine running, honest! :) It does seem strange because when IF generated my Oz flight I was presented with the same downpour. It was as if IF WX had become stuck. I exited IF and cleared all WX using FSUIPC.I'm currently flying YPLM - YPKG without IF, and using ASE, because i'd already booked the flight. Will resume IF later.

Aha, FSUIPC WX. I'll bet IF works fine and the rain has cleared once you restart everything...If you use IF online you will be working harder in takeoff & landing than those without IF, due to the thermals/ridge effects on your plane. :DSpeak later;Steve

Steve,The way I build & fly is pretty much the way a lot of sim pilots do it.Route

If it's a VA route then I know it will have been checked and verified for correct entry & exit points. If it's ad-hoc then I'll either go to FlightAware, VRoute or Routefinder (not always the most accurate but good enough for most). I'll then paste the route string into FS Commander or FS Build. I'll save and export without DP or STAR.

Weather

Fire up ASE, import and process the plan. Get the Dep & Dest ATIS for the DP and STAR.

In Flight

I run FSX on its own machine along with ASE. This machine is an iMac which runs XP under Parallels. I use FSC here via WideFS. I would run ASE but I have yet to find a way to get Simconnect to work over a Bridged Ethernet connection.

I enjoy Gliding in FSX. Cumulus X and Winch X really do make for some great flights. If I have a spare 30mins before chow, I will load up my Innsbruck flight putting me in the air with a 30kt wind southerly blowing. I can race up and down the ridge at 220kph in the superb Aerosoft Discus.I thought IF was a bit of a novelty at first, and something I would easily tire of, but am now beginning to get into it. If I can sort the WX issue out I'll look forward to putting IF through its paces.Keep those updates coming Steve!

There's always work to be done with lots of features to expand, but there's no problems spoiling the party.I usually set 15-20knt winds in IF and explore ridges. Look for pinch points to get extra lift.Steve

So what's the procedure for creating a flight that starts and ends at the same airport, ie a glider flight. I get a -'Not enough storage for this command procedure'Have you thought about asking Tom for a Forum of your own? There must be a load of questions from other users.

That seems to have come up now three times. After changing to another aircraft? I've not been able to get that to go here so far.Just do a flight to your departure and you get a "Free Flight" with navs set for your departure.Steve

'Not enough storage for this command procedure' has come up for three IF users now. This seems to start or stop after changing planes.Maybe something I missed when upgrading a profile or aircraft list.Deleting the aircraft.ini's and running IF again may help:C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight 10\Profiles\Aircraft.iniC:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight 10\Profiles\0_ID\0_Aircraft.iniSteve

I had that problem too and it went away when I uninstalled & reinstalled IF.Molly

Hi,I found the 'Not enough storage for this command procedure' problem: >> Generating the sea search mission, and having short routes. For now it can be avoided by disabling any sea search items in the Mission page. Thanks for all help and patience! :-)Steve

I use FSC as well, not managed to import a plan yet from that. If I use Plan-G it will import no problem..G

I'm having a problem where IF doesn't see all my FSX Aircraft. No Level D, PMDG, Quiet Wings, Captain Sim ... Maybe it has something to do with the number of variations IF is capable of seeing before it omits them.I've tried deleting both Aircraft.ini's.

Stupid question, but if you don't have the "show all aircraft regardless of facilities" checkbox checked, are you at an airport with runways long enough for any of those a/c?

Disregard that. Runway length is the key.Can I suggest you place the Airport selection icon above the Aircraft icon. Assuming we follow a Pilots natural workflow and work down, it might be better to select where we want to fly and then give us the choice of what aircraft are available. What I'm doing right now is having selected an airport with a very long runway, I'm editing all aircraft parameters to enable me to see them at airports with shorter runway lengths. Your default settings have aired very much on the conservative side. ie you have set a B752 range at 2300nm when it commonly does Transatlantic flights.
