Thanks for this and other replies having looked at the demo I just wanted to be clear on exactly what IF did and why it obviously has such an appeal to many simmers and to make sure there wasn't something about it that I had missed. One thing though, how does IF integrate with aircraft that have RXP Garmins as most of my GA aircraft do? The problem being that the RXP Garmins can't import FSX flightplans. I suppose you would just have to re-enter your IF flightplan into the RXP Garmin but that would take away the click and fly aspect and then there would be the problem of different navigation databases which you can get around but it is rather tedious.Bruceb
If you do get an addon aircraft that has a special way of programming the GPS or loading, and it's not standard, then you know that at the time and expect to play with it anyway. If they have their own program to do it then it’s used as normal. In the case of loading you can set the load to what is in the briefing. IF does do *everything else though.*nearly :-))OH yes, IF recreates any waypoint system on the fly when you drop your .PLN

Hi Steve,Using the latest version I'm having an issue with the drag and drop of .pln files. Lately I'm flying the LVLD 767 which uses .rte flight plans. I generate these in FSBuild then drag and drop the .pln ( I export from FSBuild in .rte and .pln format) file onto IF and it creates the plan in IF but there is only the DEPT and DEST airport, nothing inbetween and the flight level is way off. How do I get IF to accept the parameters in the .pln flight plan without them being modified by the aircraft parameters. If the flight plan calls for 35,000ft, IF is 35,000 ft.? I really don't want to have to go into the aircraft parameters everytime to adjust for different flight levels. Thanks for your time.Glen
Hey Glen,This was a good one:I found a format difference in the .PLN you sent that fooled IF's .PLN reader, no altitude specified. Should have been OK except for an added space which fooled IF. The altitude situation you experienced was because IF thought the route was much shorter, with no ascent+descent distance for your cruise Alt. So there will be no messing with Altitudes after all. The plan you sent me looks great now.Silly mistake on my part. Don't worry, I just checked the other 140,000 lines of code; there's no more bugs. :-))Steve

IF update [rb] coming soon…The flight generator page has been extended to include Min and Max hours flight time. So you will be able to find the set of flight locations that lie between 2hrs away and 4hrs away in your current aircraft, for example. The option to choose from a special subset of airports is now being included, also set on the flight generator page. You can have the flight generator choose from a set of hub airports, for example. You can edit and manage your sets with notepad.Plans using locations with no specified altitudes, are handled properly now.The autobrakes setting now defaults to the off position, rather than the auto position, and is settable in Cold & Dark too. The current version Citation X v2 is affected by this set to auto and the brakes stay on (I purchased this addon for testing, v. nice!).One or two issues around the Ui have been tidied up.Still very little problems reported. Thanks to all for the support; a special thank you to those that wrote just to say thanks, and those that have supported IF on the forums. I’ll continue to press on making IF do what you need. There is still a big list of desired features to juggle. The main thing is to be able to keep IF working the same, whatever features are added. With regard to how I set up FSX; I use a default copy of FSX, no tweaks. All sliders and settings to max, DX10, set to 17fps limited on the slider control. The graphics card is set to use max buffer pool available, all other settings default. I7-960, GTX480, Win7(64) all default settings. My screenshots at FSN: http://www.flightsimulatornetwork.com/photo/photo/listForContributor?screenName=1e63imtfx8pvfBest regards;Steve

Hi Steve,I have just heard about your add-on and tried it tonight. I really like it and would like to buy it. One question if you don't mind.I like to use VOXATC as it enhances the realism factor of ATC rather than someone else answering for me. As you know VOXATC controls the AI planes, can IF work with VOXATC and what effect, if any, would it make to how IF controls other AI planes?regardsPaul

Hi Paul,IF includes a few aircraft nearby your route, either parked or in flight. You can turn them off or add more. They will remain separate to any other Ai aircraft or traffic addon, and won’t interfere.Go ahead and use any ATC with IF. IF flight plans don’t co-exist with FSX ATC, IF plans generally work great with any ATC although there may be a small difference in the top of descent point, depending on routing. There’s an upgrade shortly [rb], improves on a few things, thermals for example. (see IF report page). But don’t let that put you off the present version. Try VOXATC with the free version and let me know how it goes.Best regards;Steve

With regard to Ideal Flight and compatibility with other add-on's:

  • Currently, I don't know of any addons incompatible with IF.
  • IF cannot hurt your FSX installation, no matter how many addons you installed or how complicated your setup.

Steve :-) BTW IF creates html documents of all your aircraft and scenery addons from the info page.

hi Stevei fly the PMDG747 exclusively and i use the SID/STARs for departure and arrival to airports, i see IF doesnt support SIDS/STARS so is there really any benefit for ppl like myself who fly the heavy iron 99% of the time in getting this program?thanks

This program still works great when you use SIDs/STARs after you start the flight, it just doesn't generate flight plan files using them. For example, you can have IF generate a random flight for you from your favorite home airport (IF is smart enough to make sure the given airport has a long enough runway for the selected aircraft and such) and then update your flight plan in your aircraft's computer with whichever SIDs and STARs you want. You can also drag and drop flight plan files directly onto the IF window and it will load the flightplan into IF with all of IF's features.

Steve,I bought IF primarily because I wanted it to create flights for me, depending on time constraints.I've set my departure as KSEA (I've tried others), told it i'd like a flight between 1.50 and 4.00 hours in the iFly NG, and set time to now. I hit Search and every time I'm presented with 'No compatible airports found ....'. No matter what filter methods I select the result is the same. What am I missing here?A Tutorial flight would be handy.

Actually I think this is a problem with the rb update released today. Did you have the previous version already installed, then upgraded to this one today? That's what I did, and I got the same problem trying to generate flights. It turns out that the updated version did not re-index airports as it was supposed to. To fix this I had to clear out the index folder in the C:\programdata\ideal flight folder.

I did upgrade yes, but I can't be sure it wasn't doing the same before the upgrade as I was entering Dep & Arr myself. I only have the exe, the lic.txt and help folders in my main IF folder.I never could figure where to drag PLN files to get them to load either. Why not do it via a menu?

If you uninstall IF and then reinstall via the new rb install .exe, it should take care of the problem.I agree that a menu option to load an external plan would be a nice option and more intuitive than the drag and drop scheme.

Hi,Index:Sorry, I should have mentioned the need to create a new index. :( Any strange problems will be from the index being out of date. The new index incorporates changes to accommodate the airport subsets and other new filter items. I presume everything works fine after the indexes have been rebuilt? No reports of any problems so far, other than if not indexed.Plans:IF leaves you to use your favourite planner if you want plans to do SIDS/STARS. Just drag and drop .PLN files right onto IF's main page. Also you can edit the plan IF creates, and add SIDS/STARS, and then drop it back onto IF. Incidentally, drop .BMPs on any page to replace the background.Thermals:Anyone not tried gliding yet should try that now. Ridge and thermal soaring should be working nicely :-) Don't forget that all aircraft are affected by this system.Subsets:Create new text files as described in the Flight Generator help section near the bottom, add ICAOs from the map page popup menu command, or manually in a text editor.Best regards;Steve
