J41 SP2

Featured Replies

Perhaps it will get a mention when the 'new product offerings' are announced (http://forum.avsim.n...with-your-meal/) but as it was 'coming soon' 18 months ago I'm not holding my breath. I suspect that they've decided there's no money in a JS41 SP2 and have binned any work on it to enable them to concentrate their resources on things that will bring in the cash.Andy Lawton
Yep... they already have our money, what's the use of spending any effort on the product that likely sells nowhere near the quantity of the 737NGX (I think even if they do put out an SP2, it'll be a haphazard bandaid without much substance). Now, if they were to revamp and include a JS31 variant as an update (like the feelThere ERJ series - which is a great product in my opinion - for those that want commuters but not heavy metal) I'm sure it would spur sales and might make it worth while to continue "supporting" the 41. I would even pay an "upgrade" fee for something like that.

I'm back flying the J41 more than the NGX now.G3D errors with the NGX, sure, it's a scenery problem, but only happens when I fly the NGX, no matter what the location. Looking forward to SP2 for this great bird.

+1 ,even has NGX,i still love js41,fly short flight is really fun.

As a fellow proud J41 flyer what is actually wrong with it that would warrant a patch? I can only think of two, the annoying selection noise and the occasional gray triangles that appear from the middle of the screen flashing away, but only (for me at least) on the second flight after completing the first. If it's new features you are after i don't think that's fair. How many other publishers add new features for free years after the launch? Nowadays you are lucky if patches are not charged for (cough...DCS KA-50 2).

1. Performance2. Performance3. Performance4. Odd A/P implementation compared to standard (it's faked to be attitude based, but it's not, and there's no reason to not use the at least some of the default auto-pilot FSX controls and selector so that standard panels works with the darn thing)5. Flashing icing boxes6. A/P LNAV won't work after a re-load and/or after an FSX crash.7. Performance (if the ERJ package can be fast, so can the J41)

Thank you for the response, i have no performance issues at all, it is as good (if not slightly better) than the ngx; memory wise considerable better. I don't have "flashing icing boxes".I cannot comment on the AP...is this compared to the standard fsx AP? Is this purely about hardware panels, most complex aircraft have this problem, the NGX does? Thanks

Performance as compared to other "commuters" as stated above, and other "complex" aircraft. I get about a 5 FPS drop in the J41 compared to the ERJ (and the ERJ has a full FMS) and iFly 737s, and about 10 FPS drop compared to the RealAir Dukes. There's is no reason why the A/P cannot behave normally based on FSX controls. I hacked a Lua script to make it work with the Saitek panel, but because of it's implementation details, it cannot be made perfect, but could be made perfect by the developers. I see no reason why they chose to implement the behaviors they did.

Well i don't have any of those aircraft so i cannot really comment; all i can say is that i find performance more than acceptable, it's certainly easier on frames than the CS707. Do you even notice a 5FPS difference, is it that important? Genuine question, not being difficult, i can gain more than that just turning the traffic down.I don't use any panels, just the Saitek Yokes, pedals and throttles, all of which work perfectly. But this is hardly the only aircraft with that problem, i am not sure how PMDG could really design an aircraft that works with all possible external hardware configurations, other than sticking to the FSX SDK and this would cause other issues.Guess i am quite lucky, the only problems i have i listed, one of them isn't actually a problem (the sound thingy), more of a whine on my part.I am not being funny, i do respect your opinion but these do not seem like problems to me just nice to have fixes. I don't think that PMDG will create an SP2, and frankly i wouldn't expect them too i am more than happy with the product others obviously are not, you can please some people some of the time... I don't see much of a performance difference between the J41 and the iFLY 737 on my system, maybe 1 FPS drop for the J41. A performance improvement is not likely in a 2nd SP IMO. I'm not sure why people think they can just go back and improve theperformance in a service pack. Performance is affected by things not easily changed without also compromising the look of product, like polygons and bitmaps. More than likely any real performance improvements were made during the original Beta. After that getting anymore performance is like getting more water out of an already well wrung towel. They might be able to tweak it here and there, but overall performance wise , I think very likely..it is, what it is.Regards.Ernie.

Please PMDG can you make the EADI & ND as Pop-ups. Its really hard to fly without them Whew.gif

Kind regards

Well they were planning on releasing SP2 about 18 months ago (http://forum.avsim.net/topic/278682-texture-flickering-flashing/page__view__findpost__p__1759335). Not heard anything about it for a year now so is it any wonder people are asking for it?Andy Lawton

Don't doubt that for one moment but plans change. Given the long gestation period of the NGX i would be very surprised if we see SP2, unfortunately you cannot expect companies to support products forever, at some point any company has too end updates. From my standpoint the only issue with the J41 is the flashing triangular polygons that appear if the aircraft is restarted within FSX.I am not surprised that people are asking for it...never said i was, i WILL be surprised if we get one.

Ian R Tyldesley

I doubt anyone expects plans to remain unchanged but I do expect a company with any half decent customer support to keep its customers reasonably well informed. I'll let PMDG's failure over the past months to respond to questions posed in this forum regarding SP2 speak for itself.Andy Lawton

I understand.PMDG don't really post on the forums as often as they used to do. It could be that they are busy with support or they find that the forums are quite hostile at times.I still am non the wiser what people think is wrong with the aircraft, performance is OK, actually pretty good and probably quite difficult at this stage to improve. The hardware panel issue raised above is common to most complex aircraft not just the J41. I would like to see improvements within the aircraft (though i am not sure what) i would also be willing to pay a nominal fee for such. I think it's a little unfair to require PMDG to upgrade this aircraft 2-3 years after it came out.

Ian R Tyldesley

People were asking for J41 fixes right after release, not after 2-3 years (e.g. the triangular polygon bug). That time we thought the NGX development causes the delay of the SP2, so I think there's nothing unfair in asking for it again after the NGX's release. But guys, do not hope too much in the upcoming SP; I had opened a support ticket back in July, and listed more than eighty issues with the aircraft's systems for the PMDG developers. They responded that because the J41 is only a low-cost model, it's "highly unlikely" that they're going to fix any of those. Based on their answer, I don't think PMDG had ever really planned to release a new SP; simply they won't earn enough profit from doing so.They had to decide which is the better: to invest some time and money in developing or to leave behind some unhappy customers with their complaints. Jetstream owners, I think there're too few of us! :-)I wish I was wrong... anyway, Christmas is coming, maybe they'll suprise us! :-)Márton Takács
