February 4, 201115 yr Hello all, I hope the Administrators will bear with me on this post. I was wondering how important Preview DirectX.10 was in relation to the effectiveness or otherwise to PMDG aircraft whether it is enabled or not. This question came about when I tried installing an addon airport and on running FSX the scenery was tearing and the FSX vehicles were unrecogniseable. On enquiring at the addon airport Forum a member suggested Disabling DirectX10 and the problem disappeared. Many thanks in advance. richard welsh. Richard Welsh
February 4, 201115 yr It doesn't work properly, it mucks up some addons yet achieves very little => I don't use it. Weird innit ;) Bill Casey
February 4, 201115 yr Author DX10 in FSX means only problems, disable at once and never use it again Hi Bill and Grzegorz, I am not making contradictions here but I normally enable Preview Directx.10 and everything works ok. I disabled it and loaded a flight using MD11. I noticed the leading edge of the wings were multi coloured as were the fan blades. I ended the flight, enabled Directx and everything was back to normal. I only brought up the subject in relation to the addon airport in the original post. I am beginning to regret mentioning the original post if there seems to be a multitude of differing opinions for and against. Thanks anyway. richard welsh. Richard Welsh

February 4, 201115 yr It gives me a little bit higher fps but messes up taxiways, some add-on scenery and aircraft, so I have disabled it. February 4, 201115 yr Hello,I have discovered that with my Radeon HD 4600 videocard, if I do NOT use DirectX 10 preview, my FMC for example looks like it is torn. The characters in the FMC look as if they were ripped apart and glud together again.I don't have this with DirectX 10 preview on, so I leave it on. I wonder if this preview is Alpha or Beta?? :( :( Good luck,Wijnand (EHBK) Wijnand Lindelauf (EHBK)
February 4, 201115 yr Commercial Member DX10 Preview mode also allows for VC self shadowing if it is enabled in the model (this works in the PMDG JS4100 for example). For self shadowing however, it is definitely not up to par with what you may be used to from other games (very blocky), and gets really messy with very complex geometry. February 4, 201115 yr Grzegorz is spot on. For me DX10 'preview' mode screws up default airport taxiway markings, disables those progressive taxi arrows, most aircraft lights show up anymore, hits the FPS, most add-on planes and airports don't even work with it. You are best to ditch it and find a way to get it to run in the standard mode. The ONE thing that DX10 helped me with was to stop the black screen of death hangs, but HIGHMEMFIX=1 fixes that now so really, no more need for DX10 preview. February 5, 201115 yr Just out of curiousity; will this fetuare been on the new NGX? I use DX10 mode quite a bit as a preference as I know how to manage the side effects:)Simon Simon
February 5, 201115 yr My frames are a lot better with DX10 on... Wish it was the other way around!Sam N Cheers, Sam N
February 6, 201115 yr Fellas!Forget dx10 with add-ons for fsx....if you run purely default fsx you will have some issues, if you use add-ons they will NOT be coded in for dx10 compatibility, simple as that!!!..just use dx9 on the ancient fsx code. :) Chris Farrell
February 6, 201115 yr Commercial Member I don't use it and don't recommend using it - it causes a performance hit for me and it disables AA. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
