Yeah! Sometimes altitudes are off. I always check and adjust mine according to charts, etc. 9/10 after that they're spot on, I guess sometimes we have to do a little leg work first, which I don't mind doing as it give a better understanding of how virtual charts work and how to read them correctly.Chris Farrell

I run PFE & Flightsim Commander on a networked PC and it's just great - couldn't fly without them any more. That also means it's simple to have ATC voices separate in my headphones or separate speaker.PFE can be a little confusing to newcomers, especially updating the software, but it's wizardry more than makes up for that.I do have Radar Contact installed too but, to be honest, it's hardly used now. Nothing wrong with it, in fact it's great! I just think PFE is slightly better for MY needs. It more flexible too. Also, as stated previously, the guy seems to work tirelessly to improve it.Radar Contact:- 8/10PFE:- 9/10FSCv9:- 8/10Add either combination to ANY PMDG aircraft:- 10/10

I see from that update history page I posted that PFE has constant updates but where exactly can I download these updates?

For my point of view, PFE need a lot of configuration for each flight, like setting the cruise altitud for each waypoint on the flight plan. Then asking for a higher or lower altitud sometimes doesn't work. I found RC4 easier and faster to setup. Taking into consideration that ATC it is not something a pilot should plan for each flight, my vote goes to RC4. But thats me..

Once you have PFE properly installed the updates are automatic. The last was 2.14vololiberista

I believe the problem of asking for higher/lower altitudes and then ATC sending you back to the original FPL altitude at the next wypt was fixed with vers 2.14vololiberista

Bought it yesterday and love it, ran into some problems with the install but if I would have read the FAQ I would have had no problems, I love the voices, actual taxi instructions and the acars gauge that will tell you weather and runway in use at your destination, I like the fact you can request the acars at anytime during flight, its working perfect with ASE those new updated fsuipc models are working perfect with DWC.

It's great isn't it, installation was problematic for me too as I use a 64 bit o/s, after the patch, all is good. Once you have converted your flight plans you will enjoying a new level of virtual simming. I would recommend getting Navigraph charts if you have add-on airports....it all adds to the virtual fun. What's the best way to install it on a 64bit OS please? I'm waiting for my boxed copy to arrive and looking at the FAQ on the developer's site I don't see anything about installing on 64bit systems.Andy Lawton

I find pfe's taxi instruction not so good and the fact that it makes you come in too high and sometimes too low on approach very annoying to the point I got rid of it.how did you cope with them "wrong" altitudes ? Have you experienced all this at all ?ThanksVic

Many people complain about it but they just ignore it and substitute the altitude gave by ATC by one they think is safe or according to the altitude given by the approach charts.

The "wrong altitudes" as you put it are largely due to having a wypt tooooo close. The taxi instructions are perfect and work very well even at a complicated airport such as London Heathrow. Problems ssometimes arise if you use an airport without taxiway desgnations. LIBD is an example. The default airport is disjointed and should be upgraded by an afcad. Then once updated PFE will work fine.As for your coming in too low or too high PFE allows you to adjust your fpl altitudes with the exception that if the last one is too close then PF2000 overrides it. However, having said that there is a fix that was quoted on the PFE forum some time ago.vololiberista

You mean if the last one is too close to the airport or too close to the previous waypoint ? Do you have a link to the fix ?Thanks in advance,Vic

PFE does two things. First if wypts are too close together it leaves some out. But that should never be a problem. And, yes if your last wypt is too close to the airport. I can't remember in what topic I saw the fix but have a browse here and sign up if you have not already done so.vololiberista

Hi,in my last MD11 video you can see/listen PFE in action. I think PFE is a good addon, very easy to use and it brings more realism to FSX.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnjsSPwlbp8Chris

It's all about planning. The last VOR has to be 10Nm from the airport otherwise it can go a bit wrong. IF you follow charts and confirm this within the PFE Plan [altitudes] then it will be OK.chris farrell
